I answered this question earlier in this thread but, here goes again :)

This template does not play well with Safari for iPhone. It will not allow iPhone users to log in unless they are using Tapatalk. So, we set the iPhone browser to default to the mobile template.

I know you said that Celt...but it seems to switch in between the two. For the record, the mobile version of this site sucks balls. It really makes me not even want to come to the site. Tapatalk is all well and good...except I don't feel like paying money to view sites that I should be able to view through my browser. I visit alot of forums from my iPhone, and this is the only one that defaults to the mobile version.

No offense, but it's 2 dollars and 99 cents. I'm not telling you what to do with your money. But we're talking about two dollars and 99 cents. Once. The product is great. They deserve to be compensated for their investment, ingenuity, R&D.

You have your answer. You'll just need to be patient. While we'd like everything to work beautifully right out of the box, the reality is that it doesn't, and we have real lives, real jobs and real responsibilities outside of this site.

OT: I left a zinger outta there. Really pains me to do that.

Muck...it's not even so much about the money...I don't want to pay for something that should already work. Kind of like why I didn't like paying for Xbox Live to play games over the Internet. I go to one site that forces me to a mobile version...this one. Whatever. Their product may be great, for those who use it, but I don't use it, and they don't deserve anything from me.

Of course it's about money. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion. :)

We said to expect issues in the short term. You're seeing them. Tapatalk is an option to work around. Simple as that. :)

We haven't changed anything since you posted. So it might be related to your phone's browser cache. I know I had to clear mine when we were switching during testing.

Muck...it's not about the money. It's about the principle of it all. Why should I pay for Tapatalk, when every other forum I visit functions just fine on my iPhone?

And it's back to the mobile site. LOL. It's somewhat comical.

I feel the same way. Although I'm not sure how much of it is me adjusting to the changes and the newness of it, as opposed to actually preferring the old site, but I have a hunch I actually prefer the old site. Definitely aesthetically speaking. Oh well. Change won't scare me away. I'm sure you guys have good reasons for making the change.

We have chosen a new template that we will doll up a bit (new paint, lipstick, etc...). This template should serve as a frame for the future.

Guys, we are working as fast as we can. We had two choices....quickly move to a new platform and template and hope that our members would patient as most of you have, or stay with a version of vBulletin that was no longer supported and was riddled with security holes. Muck and I made the decision to err on the side of caution to protect our member's privacy while we realized that it might take a couple of weeks to get back on our feet.

The founding members of this site followed us over from FH, even though, at the time, we were "Celtkin.com" and "Drunkenpuppies.com". We had no template, no style but what we did have was 100+ die-hard members who did not care what we were called or what the site looked like. I think of those early days fondly.....

To be honest, I love our members but if style during this transition is an issue, there are other sites who are happy to take you.

Security holes maybe are sloughed off by some, but the original genesis of it all was a massive one that literally put a forum offline for months so it is no small thing.

Improvements I've noticed:

-Forum is less "bright'
-added some color which was needed
-love the "blog this post" feature

Things I am not wild about:

pages load oddly on game day threads, a post on page 45 shows up on page 48 with other posts that used to be on page 45, or better said, the previous page.

pm notifications are sort of hidden

sometimes the thanks button disappears.

Small stuff mostly no huge deal.

The principle of it all?

I truly appreciate your passion for the site, but it's not as if I've taken your money and sold you a bill of goods.

Like I've said multiple times in this thread....we had to move quickly, and we weren't finished yet. We told you there would be some bumps in the short term. We hoped our members would understand, given our track record and the site's roots as an 'ugly' forum. Overwhelmingly, most have. And we thank you all again for your patience and understanding. :)

To those who don't, you'll just have to sit tight while we do the best we can.

We WELCOME constructive criticism and APPRECIATE when members bring break/fix issues to our attention. The last thing we want to do is alienate members. But we're admittedly over some of the complaints about things we've already addressed/explained in the thread, so we won't address them going forward. The stuff expressed poorly out of pure frustration (i.e. "sucks balls") tends to not be overly well received.

I'm laughing at you guys right now. I build web sites for a living, and its funny to see you guys go through what I do on a daily basis. Clients' opinions suck. Always have, always will. I know, I know, that makes me a dick to laugh at your misery, but in my defense it is a misery I can share!

Seriously, you guys are doing great. Don't let these guys putting their junk in your birthday cake get you down. They'll get over it.

If you really want to shut them up, put up celtkin.com again...now that was a fugly eyesore...:shifty:

Most of that stuff (post location in game threads, Thanks button)....those happened on the old config too.

Basically it's the result of caching. When you manually refresh the page, everything should appear correctly. This newer version of the software does handle it a tad differently though, yes.

PM notifications: you should still receive a pop-up if you've set your options that way. And at the top-right of the page, your 'Notifications' link should light up with the the number of messages you have

Indeed. Our processes are light years ahead of where they were back then. Mostly because we're handling the physical hosting and administration of the site and its infrastructure 100% ourselves. I literally put my hands on the stuff on a daily basis.

My question is when you get to the end of a thread, I used to be able to hit the Miami Dolphins Forum Quick Navigation button and it would get me back to the main page, now I just get a drop down list of the different forums there are and have to scroll to the appropriate one to go there. I am using Chrome on XP if that helps.

I’d like to suggest a change in the way post text is encoded. It seems the forum is either using ASCII text encoding or just doesn’t recognize certain characters. I use the Smart Quotes substitution feature in OS X, which automatically substitutes the standard apostrophe with correct format quote marks when needed. I’ve noticed that here and on Heatfreak, whenever my posts are quoted, the quote marks are substituted with the HTML entity name text ( " ).

If the text formatting isn’t handling true quote marks, that means it’s not handling other special characters as well. It’s not a hugely important thing, but flipping the Unicode switch would be nice. :hi5:
