Make of that what you will. I wonder if Ross is starting to think about blowing out the present regime ?
If he isnt at least thinking about it then i hope he's thinking about blowing out of miami himself. Not that Im too excited about Carl Peterson, the Chiefs are still trying to recover.
Ross has said repeatedly that Peterson will not be hired in any capacity - especially in a football role. I hear Bill Parcells is looking to reform another team - maybe we can hire him.
and you believe him ? Nick Saban said he would not be the next coach at Alabama, and then took the job the next day.
Like it or not, Carl Peterson is to Stephen Ross what Bill Parcells was to Wayne Huizenga. These owners don't know football, they need people that KNOW football that they can trust to make the decisions at the highest level as far as deciding whether a change needs to be made at Head Coach, General Manager, and if that's the case, who do they hire. Do not expect Carl to actually be hired in some official way, but he's helping Stephen Ross keep perspective on things...and it's probably better than just letting Stephen Ross form his own opinions while being such an outsider to the football world. Peterson is not going to be naturally aggressive toward Jeff Ireland. He HIRED Jeff Ireland, as a scout, way back with Kansas City.
The Ireland point is very interesting. Maybe he will push Ireland to shove Sparano out the door though.
about the eqquivelent of when parcells was seen with ron wolfe up in the press box one of cams last game here and there were 300 post of "the wolfe heading to miami".as ck stated it's another eye for ross that knows football to help figure out how to right this ship for us fans.doesn't meen he's coming here and even if he did it would be under a role similar to parcells and not as gm.
It's all relatively wild speculation right now. Ross' statement on Peterson, however, was very disingenuous given Peterson was on the sidelines last night! I don't like owners that just obfuscate. Ross seems like a fraud - in many ways. Unlike Wayne H who, in spite of mistakes, was genuine and really did try to make the very best decisions at the right time to get the franchise turned around. It just never worked out. We just never got a Brady or Manning or Brees. It's become a QB league for the most part (with all the rule changes) and Miami just hasn't had that top level play - really - since 1994. But, I am not a fan of Peterson. He's never taken a team to a SB. Ireland has become a bit of a weird cat in his decision making. Sparano might be a better coach if he had great coordinators. But he's not, by any means, a smart head coach, relative to other top coaches in the league. I like the guy, "I really do," but not sure he is the man to get the job done. If we go 6-10 or 7-9, Tony's job will be on the line for certain. I wouldn't be surprised if they looked in house with Nolan. They should try to keep him on board regardless of other changes. He can build a very good defense with this very young unit, imo.
All Ross said is that Petersen has no role with the team, which is true. He and Ross are friends and Petersen ahs been at the games several times over the past 2 years. Ross wants people to come to the games. He wants a winning team. I have seen no evidence that he doesn't care about winning. The fact is, the people Wayne left behind are failing at their jobs. They have failed to develop a QB that we can be confident in and their o-line (their supposed specialty) was getting worse before the injuries. Simply, this regime has been as mediocre as all the others. The 11-5 was a mirage.
As I have pointed out in previous posts. I have my doubts about Ross. So far he seems to be more interested in the glitz and glamour of being an NFL owner then he is in providing the fans with a championship quality football team. While I appreciate the fact that Carl Peterson is a friend of his. The track record of Peterson as the man in charge in Kansas City was terrible. When he left. He left the Chiefs with one of the worst franchises in the NFL. Hopefully Ross is telling the truth when he states that Peterson will not be offered a job with the Dolphins. Parcells never did the job he was hired to do. Instead of rebuilding the Dolphins. He decided to bring in Ireland and Sparano and give them on the job training. Once he saw where the Dolphins were headed. He took his money. Cleaned out his office and left word that whatever happens from now on is the responsibility of the two trainees. If Ross really wants to show that he wants to build a winner here in Miami. He will get rid of the Parcell leftovers and bring in a coach like Cowher to get the Dolphins headed back in the right direction. After three years of rebuilding under this regime. The Dolphins are no better than a mediocre team. It is time Ross puts his money into hiring someone that is a proven winner in the NFL. Enough with these on the job trainees.
Carl Petersen wasn't terrible. He was a really good exec for the first ten years or so, but when Schottenheimer retired they went through some bad coaches and bad drafts. KC in the 90's had several 13-3 seasons and homefield advantages throughout the playoffs. I'd love to have that kind of "failure" for the 'Fins
So basically what you are saying is. Without Schottenheimer at the helm. Peterson did a terrible job of selecting players in the draft and picking a quality head coach. Based on this evidence. It appears that this is only futher proof that Peterson should not be hired by Ross to run the team. If anything. Perhaps Ross should look into hiring Schottenheimer to take over player personnel decisions. Schottenheimer obviously has a much better track record then Peterson in the NFL. Of course based on his record as a coach. Dolphin fans would have to understand that while he would be able to get the team to the playoffs on a regular basis. The team would never make it very far in the playoffs since Schottenheimer has proven time after time that he can only get a team so far. But never to the final game of the season. The Super Bowl.
Who cares? Jimmy Johnson, OMFG he is the savior, screw Shula.. He won two Super Bowls in Dallas, he will win one for Marino and they will get along great!! Screw that washed up old guy, Shula Our head coach in waiting Wanny will establish some consistency and has the courage to trade 2 draft picks for the best RB in the NFL!! Wooohooo we are Super Bowl bound with our new mobile QB that had a great game when the Phins got drubbed 62-7!!! Wooot!!! Screw Wannyball!!! We got Nick Saban, the most loyal coach ever and best coach out of college.. The man will be a legend here despite his Napoleonic stature!!! Ah who needs that quitter Satan, I mean Saban!! We got Cameron, a man who not only drafts the best players, but drafts their families as well!! We are golden! Offensive genius!! I mean how did 8 teams pass on Ginn, Beck and the steal of the draft, Lorenzo Booker!!! Cameron sucks!! Bring on the Big Tuna!! We got our franchise QB, power running game, incredible OL!! By year three we should be headed towards homefield advantage with a Super Bowl birth in year 4!! Respect the Code!!!! I'll say it again? Carl Peterson? Who cares?? Can it get any worse?
I don't see Sparano getting canned at the end of this season unless they can get Cowher. Which I also don't think is going to happen.
I think its more likely he was down on the field to be with Shula and the ROH inductees ....and cheerleaders.
