http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_seasonticket/2008/04/fins-mortensens.html 1. Mortensen said that the Dolphins did indeed give Jake Long a deadline of Tuesday. 2. Mortensen said that the Dolphins had worked out most of the agreement last Thursday. Jeff Ireland met with the media last Thursday. I wrote at the time that people were making too much of Ireland's "gaffe," in which he referenced a "defensive pillar." But I also don't buy the new theory -- which was fed by Ireland's smiling for-me-to-know-and-you-to-find-out answer on Tuesday -- that he was being intentionally deceptive. I think it was just a simple misstatement. No more, no less. 3. Mortensen said that the Dolphins really might have passed on the pick, to perhaps slide down and take Vernon Gholston or Derrick Harvey a few slots later. Ireland strongly denied last Thursday that the Dolphins would take that approach. Moreover, if that really was a consideration, then I owe colleague Harvey Fialkov a stronger apology, because I mocked the idea during a video report that Omar Kelly and I shot after the Ireland press conference.
Thanks. Whoa Derrick Harvey a few slots later? How many slots are we talking about here because if it is anywhere before the the tenth pick, that would be a reach wouldn't it?
It seems to me they are targeting players, irregardless of which "slot" they should be in. Hopefully they are targeting Hardy if he falls to 32....that along with Jake would just make my year.
Passing on the pick really could have been a good idea. Ironic though, that when they take such preventative measures for the 2nd, 3rd picks etc negotiating with players, so as not to interfere with TV coverage, that the draft could've spent the first few hours with everyone just passing up the first pick like a merry-go-round.
Lol it would be fun sitting there trying to guess when we would just interfere in someones pick and make a selection.
Go to Graphics Forum. Ask JT, In_Flames, Gish, SkapePhin to make you one or you can just post a thread in that forum. Btw, those names mentioned have their own thread where they do that work. Great work, all recommended. Heres the link to the thread: http://forums.thephins.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27
My Avy is from the best in the bizzzzz FeelThePain. Everyone here does GREAT work but I live by FTP, had his avys for about 3 years now. He is awesome! SIG by the great JT!!
Passing on the pick I think would have been a very interesting but futile thing. If I was picked by the Phins after them sliding down, I would be demanding a contract in accordance with the ones players a few other picks higher got. Basically, sliding down is saying to a player that "hey, we want you, but we are cheaping out on you." Repipe for a holdout there, no thanks. In the end, I think the whole idea was rediculous. Whatever, Im glad we got Jake in the fold, welcome to Miami!
