Interesting little tidbit in this story. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...miami-dolphins-prepare-to-face-matt-roth.html I was surprised to see Misi ranked higher. I know some people here still want Roth, but it seems it was the right move at least by the rankings.
I wish we still had him. Roth was one of the best edge setters in the game in 2008, and that was as he was just learning to play the position. I think if he was still here he'd be dominating. And we could have used the Misi 2nd round pick on a TE, WR, or a Pat White .
Well there was a reason they got rid of him.If he was insubordinate(I don't know if he was,but that's what was rumored) they had to make an example. The guys that replaced him are an upgrade.
Matt Roth was a me-first kinda guy. You can't have guys faking injuries as leverage for contract negotiations. The guy was a punk. Good riddance. There's plenty of LBs in this league who can set the edge when they have zero pass-rushing responsibilities.
I don't disagree. I just think Parcells' ego may have gotten in the way and I wish the front office would've handled it differently. If Roth says he's hurt, put him on the PUP and let him look soft in front of his teamates and peers. If he still doesn't want to play after 6 games, put him on IR. He'd have been a restricted free agent coming into this year, same as Ronnie and Fasano. Hopefully he'd come around and see that his only real path to a lucrative contract would be to play hard for us, at least for one year. Best case he plays hard, comes around and we resign him. Worst case he walks. Or maybe we trade him for a mid rounder, hell we got a nickel back for Greg Camarillo and a 5th for Teddy, Roth is a better player than both, combined. As it was, we got nothing out of him and we got nothing for him. A waste IMO.
He wasn't faking an injury. He was faking not having an injury. Rosenhaus blew it when he let it be known Roth's groin was again a problem after Roth had signed a document to the Dolphins stating he was healthy before the conditioning run when he was clearly hiding the injury. Claimed it was 'illness' because he was trying to get that new contract. Also, since being in Cleveland he's demanded a trade and appeared on the injury report with a so called "hamstring" and *cough* "illness" the last 4 or so weeks which just coincides with yet another drop in his play.
Unless I'm missing something Roth is ranked higher at 7th to Misi's 9th. In any case I think the situation was mishandled by the front office, like others have said. Maybe they didn't want him on the team anymore, but they gave away what has proven to be a productive asset for nothing, which is just not a good move.
