On to Fenway now. Place has been a nightmare for us, lets see if things are any different this year.

Escobar's going to start throwing tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed that all goes well. Seems like a good step considering his talk of this perhaps being a career ending injury.

lol, that Manny shot scared Frankie a bit. Nice to win a series in Boston, even if the flue gets an assist I'll still take it.

The young guys are really hitting well. If Vlad and GA ever decide to join them the offense will be just fine. I think Scioscia should think about dropping GA in the lineup, but he wont because he's so loyal.

I'm really liking Aybar at SS, he's just a really fun player. I loved OC, but I dont dislike that trade at all anymore.

Off to Detroit to face a hot Tigers team, they scare me quite a bit. Especially with Moseley pitching.

Yeah, now that Granderson has returned, Detroit's offense has seemed to start to live up to their monster reoutation.:shifty:

I am also convinced that Aybar has claimed the shortstop job, and Ituris will not see the field all that often after Kendrick returns next week.

John Lackey (triceps) allowed one run in two innings and struck out five in his rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.
Just as if it were the start of the spring, Lackey was only scheduled for two innings in his first appearance. He'll start in the California League again on Tuesday.

Found this interesting, we're apparently a very happy fan base :) Of course the Ducks are on the list also so maybe people in OC are just easy to please...

Possibly so. But then again Atre Moreno is doing a very good job at ownership:up: The worst ranking the Halos got in any category was a 23. On the same survey, our beloved football team got nothing better than #73 (Hiezenga), and many categories in the bottom 4(119 or worse).

Nice road trip, lets hope we can win this 4 game series with Oakland and really open up some breathing room in the division.

Scioscia dropped GA to 6th sooner than I expected. Hopefully Kotchman keeps swinging a hot stick.

Anyone able to explain Miguel Cabrera talking trash to Vlad in game 1 of the series? I cant imagine Vlad initiating it so it makes me think Cabrera is just a punk. Vlad answered with a HR though :)

And grats to Vlad on hit 2000 during the series.

I have to tip my hat to the Angels, on not only a great road trip but a great start to the season after losing their two best pitchers. Although it doesn't surprise me that much as I feel that Scioscia is by far the best in game manager in baseball.

Well inept umpiring has struck again.:pity::tantrum:
Umpire Charlie Rieliford was clearly pinching John Garland by calling 21 of his 1st 50 pitches balls. After giving up a 3-run homer to non-homer threat, Daric Barton, after a probable strike 3 was a ball, pitching coach Mike Butcher came to the mound. During the mound conference Rieliford came out to break up the meeting, and gets into an argument with Butcher.Butcher got ejected.:tongue2: That is unusual for a pitching coach to get run.

    Some good news.

As for the game, it happens. Oakland is playing good and I have no idea how it's happening. At least Seattle has been a disappointment. Going to the game tomorrow so hopefully we have a better outcome.

Saunders has been filthy this season. 5-0 in April, the team is 6-0 in games he's started. He's a big reason why we havent missed Lackey or Escobar too much.

Good news, Moseley is out of the rotation and the Angels will call up Nick Green or Nick Adenhart to start Thursday vs Oakland. I hope it's Adenhart, I want to see what this guy has. He's been dominating AAA, but Green is set up better to pitch Thursday it seems.

And Lackey is supposed to be back May 14th.

I found this interesting as well, it's good to see the young pitchers coming through early.

I hope it's Adenhart too.Gotta love the way Ervin and Joe have really step up with John and Kelvim being out.It looks like(knock on wood)our Halos are going to have two pitchers with 5-0 records to end April.I'm especially happy about Saunders,it's been awhile since we've had a good Lefty.

Hey guys, curious when Mathis will become the FT catcher. Checking to see if you guys have heard anything there. It seems hes infinitely better then Napoli offensively and he finally knows how to hit a breaking ball....

Seems to me they're going to continue to split time between the two, but it sounds like Mathis will start playing slightly more than Napoli. I dont see it going to a more conventional split with either one getting the majority of starts any time soon. It's been nice to see Mathis come around on offense this year, but I think they probably like Napoli's HR power.

Really? Wasnt it Mathis who was the jewel of their system for a long time because of his power? Seems odd....:shifty:

Yeah. A couple years back Mathis was handed the catching job when Benjie was allowed to walk but failed and Napoli took advantage. I'm not really sure about Mathis' minor league power numbers, but in the bigs it seems like Napoli has shown a bit more power potential. I know in the minors they loved his defense and that was the big thing that separated I believe. Of course we arent talking 30 HR power for Napoli so it might not be enough to matter in the long run if Mathis can keep his avg up.

In my view, I sense Sciocsa seems to like Napoli a little bit better, since Napoli reminds him of himself as a player. Napoli has more power. Mathis does call a better game. To some extent this reminds me of the 1970's, pre-Sciocsa, Dodgers where Joe Ferguson and Steve Yeager (except for mid 1976 to mid 1978) split the catching job. Napoli is more like Ferguson with good power, but weak average and prone to bad streaks, and Mathis is more like Yeager, great game calling not as powerful a bat.

Adenhart is getting the start tonight. His major league debut on three days rest, I hope he does well. He'll get 3 starts according to Scioscia so we'll have a chance to see him a couple times. And Kendrick could be back this weekend.

    Found this interesting

The team also set a franchise record for wins in April. I'm starting to get excited about this team after being a bit down on them due to injuries early on. Hopefully the young guys keep this up because they've carried this team so far, which has been a lot of fun to watch. The vets need to step up some now (GA and Vlad especially).

Not going well for Adenhart early, he's really wild. Oh well. Not a great start but his future is still bright.

:woot: Aybar! I love this guy. Jack Cust drops a routine fly ball that would have ended the inning and the Angels tack on 4 runs.

Well that was kind of a rough start for Nick:unsure:.He got through the first inning real smooth and then the wheels fell off.I hope it doesn't shake his confidence too much.Btw I had to crack up laughing, listening to Hudlers response when Steve asked "what to you think Mike(Butcher) is talking to him(Nick) about",Rex replied"to you want a window or an aisle seat on your flight"(back to the Minors)

Really thought they were going to finish that rally off. 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd? Get a base hit!

Anyone else starting to get worried about Vlad? .27 avg a month into the season is not like him, he's usually a pretty fast starter too.

Garland going tomorrow, fingers crossed because you never really know if he's going to show up or not.

Hopefully Figgins isnt injured badly. The infield is already a bit thin with Kendrick on the DL. Might see Wood at SS tomorrow.

Strange game today. All the runs off Quinlan, Matthews, and Hunter homers. Saunders did not pitch well, but did just enough for a win.

Santana 6-0 now also. How long can he and Saunders keep this up?

Good news is that Figgins wont go to the DL, Kendrick should be back soon and Lackey will be back the 14th or 15th as long as he doesnt have a set back.

Man I hope Aybar didnt break his fingers when he got hit. He'd be the 4th infielder to go down...Not sure how many more of these injuries we can absorb. Kendrick needs to heal faster, this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Xrays were negative on Aybar's finger luckily. Hopefully he can play or we'll see more of Quinlan at 3B and Wood at SS.

I can't believe my A's are still hangin' in!

The offseason trades are paying off HUGE dividends far earlier then anyone, even Billy Beane, could have anticipated.

The Swisher deal is paying off now with Ryan Sweeney playing almost everyday, hitting .275 and playing pretty good defense. The Haren deal brought over Greg Smith (7 GS, 2-2, 3.00 ERA) and Dana Eveland (7 GS, 3-2, 3.05 ERA) and the Kotsay deal brought in Joey Devine (11 APP, 3-0, 0.68 ERA).

None of this takes into account that the prizes of both the Haren and Swisher deals are not in Oakland yet. Carlos Gonzalez was in the Haren deal, he's in AAA (22 G, .333 AVG, 3 HR, 12 RBI, .400 OBP). He'll be up very soon. Gio Gonzalez (P), Fautino De Les Santos (P) and Brett Anderson (P) are having varying amounts of success in the system right now but they are all very young. Hitting big on one of them would make me happy.

Add to that the injuries they had early. Chavvy has not played yet, Duchsherer missed time, Harden missed time (what a shocker), Foulke was lights out before he got tweaked and T. Buck was red hot before he got hurt.

Buck is rehabbing in AAA and is on his way back, Foulke is back, Duke made his last start and Harden starts on Sunday.

I'm NOT saying they are winning the West or even contending but, when you expect your team to win maybe 70 games and they are sitting in 1st in the middle of May and are 7 games over .500 I think that would make you pretty happy....LOL!

Team shutout 2 days in a row, that's pretty ridiculous for this offense. Vlad needs to step up because his season has just been sad so far.
