I hope we can get in the dance more than anything, but realistically it is going to be a big leap from where we stand. But there are many reasons for us to remain focused on why we can still stay positive going into the 2011 season.

The main reason why is we don't need to go out and sign any big names, we need role-players right now, and free agency is always loaded with them. Whether it is a speed WR, a solid second CB or nickel back, there shouldn't be huge money spent on any position, we may still want to spend some good money on the right player – but we do not need to be shelling out major loot. Now I know some think we need this with the interior offensive line, or the rumblings on Vick - but I disagree.

First - I don't believe Vick is even close to what we want here. He is injury prone, he is not young, and I he won't put up the numbers he is putting up now, next season - especially in the AFC which is loaded with great and fast defenses.

Second - We don't need pro-bowlers to make our offensive line top notch. We have that at the Tackle position; we just need a couple of solid interior Lineman that can stay healthy. Although he could demand some decent money (which we can spend on one player) - Carl Nicks is someone to watch as the Saints already have a ton of money invested in Jahri Evans.

Now, we definitely need Speed, and at the WR position there are some good number 2 Speed WRs available in Free Agency. I like Jacoby Jones, who could help us in the return game as well. We can budget a mid-tier Speed WR who can spread the field for us.

At the HB position an upgrade is definitely needed concerning Speed and a 3rd Down back, and this can be addressed in the draft. Also, Sproles is available, and could make a nice addition as he too could help on STs. And if Ingram is available I don't see us passing on him, and I wouldn't be against moving up for him.

On defense, it is significant that we are essentially getting two extra draft picks with the return of Odrick and Edds. These guys will give us a nice boost, as they both looked great for us before injury. Now, we need some defensive backfield help, and this is also something that could be addressed in the draft. But looking at the FA market there are some solid veteran cost effective players that could give us a nice boost at the second CB spot, and help with the development of our young guys.

    Lastly, the oh-so-over-argued QB position.

If Henne finishes out the season even close to how he played in Oakland, I don't see how he doesn't go into 2011 as our starter. This is what I am praying for as I am a big Henne fan. If he blows it, and we are on the lookout for a new QB, well I would say we mortgage the house to move up in the draft. On the FA market, the only possibility I see - With Vick emerging in Phily he is bound to be franchised if not signed, and that I believe would free up Kolb. I am not a huge fan of his, but he has shown signs.

Edit: Beck is available in Free Agency!!!

My point here ladies and gents, is we have the structure of a championship caliber team. And although we can push for the playoffs, I don't believe we are a championship caliber team right now - but with some cost effective FA pickups, a good draft, and the return of some injured players, and we will be.

I don’t see us changing head coaches, now although I believe Henning will be gone, I don’t see Tony going anywhere as he should at least take us to 8-8 or 9-7.

So does anyone else have their eyes on any other players? I am not a huge college football guy, so my knowledge is limited there. But I am interested in what y’all think. Again, I hope we make it to the playoffs, but I have been really thinking about where we stand in 2011, so forgive me for looking ahead, but I just don’t see us holding the Lombardi up this season. Just being honest.

Odrick, Edds, and Will Allen could very well be 3 welcomed bodies on D side next year.

I don't mean to be negative, and I hope I'm wrong, but percentages might show that one of those guys will be out again early next year. It seems to always happen.

The other things that concern me is most successful O lines take about two or three years to really gel and become a great unit.

I think being positive depends on how we finish out, if we finish 10-6, 9-7 and out of the playoffs, I could see positives.

If we finish 8-8 or less, it will be hard for me to see positives besides are draft spot.

Yeah 9-7 was the math when schedule came out with major back heavy W's sitting on the plate. So 10-6 would be impressive (11-5 too)....and 8-8 would feel let down. Now even at 9-7 I would be sad if it worked out that we drop 2 to NYJ and 2 to NE in those 7.

Whats hard to comprehend about how close we are or are not....is our 5 losses are to all teams with no less than an 8-3 record at the moment.

Glass 1/2 full, or 1/2 empty. We havent beaten elite teams (Pack @ 7wins to date). But we have beaten all LESSER opponents. And the PIT game is a CRIME.

So, are we close? Are we far away?

Outside of the egg laid vs CHI we have played well against all others....having leads late, taking leads, coming back from deficits but ultimately walked away with L's all the same.

Just saying, so shortly removed from 1-15....what has occurred puts us far closer to ELITE than not. Question is stability and consistency.

Well big picture, here is the thing, all that has been accomplished is we now have a seat at the big boy table in the toughest division in football and we are hip deep in a talent arms race moving forwards with the Jests having cash, the pats picks, we have Ireland.

And oh yeah, the Bills will have another round of high draft picks and they will not stay crappy forever.

Small wonder they played welcome to the jungle at practice today.

Yeah, this team isn't quite there yet, but it's young and promising.

That said, special teams coverage is a disaster and needs fixing.

Our defense is fine but the best way to make them great is to have more offensive balance. Strengthening the O-line should once again be a priority in the offseason.

Carey looks to be a guard next year. Roberto Wallace looks to be a TE next year.

Henne is our QB. There is no more arguing that. Now, he may never be a Manning or Marino (who is), but he has shown he can be a good QB. He has done so with a lot of adversities. ie, no running game, senile OC, getting benched, being hurt etc etc. He's mentally and physically tough. There is NO reason to not have him as our stater next season.

I think our defense has the capabilty to be something special. Edds and Allen, IMO, will only make us better. And I hope I'm wrong, but I think Odrick will be an injury prone bust. I think our medical staff screwed us over big time in clearing him. I think that the metal plate in his leg will hamper his playing time enough so that he he's always injured.

When the Dolphins are playing football and I believe they have a chance of winning, there's always something to look forward to.

I'm not one of those that thinks that football is not enjoyable unless you're pretty sure that you're winning a championship.

    Good post bro.....

I A)dont think Vick is a serious option, and B) no way he DOESNT get franchise tagged....

Also they signed Bess to an extension a couple of weeks ago...2 year extension...

They need to sign Wake, and Soli to extensions, which I am sure they will....

as for FA's I havent really looked much but I would kick the tires on DeAngelo Williams, as RB's replacement...sorry folks I just dont see RB here next year, I believe they go one more on RW, Jones as you said would be a nice kick in the face to that ST unit...I would focus on good ST FA pickups, and figure out a way to get that 2nd pick back...

and lastly hope for Josh McDaniels to get fired, and scoop him up as Miami's new OC.....yeah thats right I said it....put him and Brandon in a room, they can kiss and hug it out...but I love McDaniels calling plays for the aqua and orange next year...

too soon to throw the towel in yet on 2010
if Henne steps up, we can run the board
we need the franchise QB emerge & salvage the season
    however
depending on what happens & how we end the season
    our immediate needs for 2011:
    1) QB
    2) Center
    3) TE
    4) Return Specialist
    5) RB
    6) new head coach & offensive coordinator

    This bothers me as well.

It seems we are always told it takes time for lines to jell, but we're blowing it up and starting over every year. Either we suck at picking talent to mesh with the o-line, or we suck at developing the talent we scout and bring here. Lately it seems as if we've been moving backwards though as we're constantly lamenting some of the guys we let go.

Before the season started, I was expecting making a possible playoff run this year. But that was before I knew you'd have NE and NYJ at 9-2. The AFC is too competitive this year for us to squeak in, even at 9-7 or 10-6. (Remember New England had to sit out one year at 11-5. That might happen again this year.)

At this point we're playing to make progress from last year; we need to finish better than 8-8 for this phins fan to be satisfied.

Unless we have a complete meltdown I just don't see this happening.

There has been a bunch of times this season where I have gotten frustrated with T.S. and second guessed him as our H.C. But once I step back and look at the big picture, I remember he is a first time H.C. who had stepped in a season after our worst season ever and is a great motivator of men, and this isn't an easy thing to be in the NFL. The players stand behind him, and this is huge, and he is still learning, and the Oakland game showed me some growth as not just a Coach, but a leader.

I agree call me nutty but I think Spar is the right man for the job, because with all the young guys on the team you need a coach that is like him...

Spar with good coordinators is a good coach....he needs good coordinators though IMO....

depends how the season plays out:
    1) playoffs & everybody gets a pass
    2) can't break even & heads will roll
    3) almost & adjustments will be made

five year rebuilding programs in the NFL
no longer exist, we should be competitive
we need to finish the season well
or there will be radical changes made
it is what it is, time to finish strong
we ran out of excuses a while ago

win the next five games, step up & do it
or find the right talent in 2011 to get the job done
my loyalties are with the franchise collectively
& its time to reach for the big brass ring
not get mired in sentimentality & what if's

I'm sure I'm not the only one in DolFandom that feels this way
I want to make the play-offs. I want to win a SuperBowl.

    1. Wrong.
    2. Center - I thought Berger was doing well. Did i miss something here?
    3. Eh, it'd be nice, but Fasano is 'good enough' for us to not have to replace him. Plus we just extended him.
    4. Not a priority. It's nice to have but not something you actively go after.
    5. RB - agreed. Ronnie or ricky has to go. One can stay as the backup/potential starter. Ronnies still got some years left behind a good OLine.
    6. Oc, yes. HC, no.

we have five games left, only after the season can we appropriately assess the team. one way or the other there will be a reckoning. it is what it is & will be judged according to results not opinions.

the read is in the plural "americas" not americam. most people that recognize the script make the same observation. it refers to all of the Americas not America, everything from Canada to Tierra del Fuego, including the United States. by the way Eggs Benedict is one of my favorites

sans Nolan for 10 games, I would say that Coach doesn't need great cordinators, considering he hasnt had great ones in three years and yet he's still got a 24 and 19 record, while inheriting a 1 and 15 expansion project.

23rd, have you thought about the team's record and playoff chances relative to the conference we play in....I mean, if the playoffs were the top 12 teams making it, we would be in for sure where we stand right now, if we go 10 and 6 and miss it its because of the conference we play in, however, we would still be considered a top 12 team all variables considered...Iam on the 4 year plan for legit playoff's when they inherited this mess., that's what I said from the get, and I feel like were on a good track for that..
