do you think thats limited to NCAA ranks? Could he have a OC job in NFL? as a starting point? would he fit?
No I don't think it is. It would not surprise me if he gets hired. I know one coach in particular who is a big fan of his and that's Jim Schwartz. Only thing he'd have to do is commit to a run game in some way lol.
It's over folks. Gruden wanted RIDICULOUS concessions from the University. Under no circumstances should Miami have given in to what he wanted. They're planning on moving on to the next candidate. Who that next person will be, no one is 100% sure, but signs point toward Dan Mullen (no thanks).
Obviously, thats my concern...would he, could he....would he only out of spread...would he run any conventional?
Stock his freezer with fresh bodies from sacrificed virgins? Done. Nude pics of Donna Shalala? Done. Rename the University, to The University of Chucky? Done. What could be a "ridiculous" concession?
Have Section126 state LeBron is a failure with the Heat; and Riley is effeminate???? or just sum it up by saying the Miami Heat = Washington Redskins!
I don't think the spread or conventional offense is an issue, honestly. Some will think so but the spread-shotgun formation is used a lot nowadays. Besides that, you can run an under center spread ala USC without any issues. Leach would get the most out of your talent, ala Josh McDaniel with his quarterbacks. Leach ran the ball but it doesn't appear so because they would average 80 or 81 plays per game on offense. In 09, he ran the ball 26 times a game and passed 55 on average. That's a big disparity, yes, but look at how many plays he had to work with. If you look at the Eagles over the years, they were a 40-60 run: pass team and sometimes even 30-70. Leach was 32:68 last year.
Depends who else is out there. I think Leach is a better coach than given credit for though. He's a brilliant mind. The guy took LaVell Edwards offense and mixed it with Mal Humme's offense and kicked *** with it. Bob Stoops only National Championship win came with the offense that Mike Leach put together before he left for Texas Tech.
And then Lebby went on to state that he allows for the possibility that Gruden is lying. After all, Gruden has been linked to college jobs before, but never met with anyone who represented those universities. Meeting with Hocutt is alone a big step.
It's ok but the board of trustees are always involved when hiring and firing any coach. They knew absolutely nothing about Shannon getting fired when he did. They may have voiced their opinions a few times before that but were never consulted the day it happened. They knew nothing about Gruden being talked to until AFTER the firing. They herd rumors is all. Like I said, the trustee I spoke to is a consultant for the company I work for. He is one of the oldest and longest standing trustees on the panel. I also herd the Shalala was told by Hocutt that he was going to fire Shannon and she needed to back him. She was concerned about the buyout and that Shannon's kids are graduating better than any coach. What the problem is, is that Hurricane football helps pay for almost all the other programs at the school, not including baseball. So when she saw the crowd of 27,000 for their last home game, coupled with the loss, she said ok.
Like his offense but do not like his tactics. Let him get hired and the media is going to be all over him.
Rumor that John Gruden wanted his brother to play the WANNY role and be the coach in waiting. The "U" balked but have not been told "NO" yet.
If I’m Hocutt, I say sure, as long as Jon Gruden agrees to a clause that says he cannot coach for an NFL team for at least one season if he requests to be released. Alternatively, tell him that if The U needs to take it as an article of faith that Jon Gruden will be the coach for a decent tenure, then he’ll need to take it as an article of faith that his brother will be allowed to become the head coach after he leaves.

Its not necessary. One of the attractive things about going after a guy that will have NFL aspirations, is that you get a buyout clause in his contract. An NFL team going after him won't have any qualms paying $5M to UM to take Gruden. The school will want a longer contract, because they want Gruden to be bought out instead of just leave when his contract expires.
You missed my point. I proposed two negotiation-based methods of telling Gruden to STFU. He should honor the contract he signs, whether it’s 3 or 4 or 5 years, and not try to work some nepotism into an already very sweetened pot. And yet the report is that the Canes are still pursuing Gruden even though he’s trying to set up a long-term job for his brother. No, the search isn’t moving on. For now.
Im assuming now, its a no go, but until i hear that UM is moving on to another person, i will keep the faith. The one national media member i know says that ESPN is expecting Gruden to stay.
Worst possible thing that could happen is this drags out, we lose recruits, then a hire is made that doesn't wow anybody and those recruits are lost forever and the new guy doesn't have the juice to make up for it.
Unique yr in that sense Nabo, 15 scholarships are open the rest are spoken for, the real thing is the new HC will want some of his recruits on the team so there will be time needed for that sort of shuffling.
I think if Gruden turns down the job, then UM will move swiftly to the candidate list. You’d probably see a hire within a week of Gruden publicly saying no thanks.
How bout this.... Tell Gruden this... You GIVE US 3 years. If you win ONE National Championship or 2 ACC Championships in those 3 years...your brother has the job as long as his offense (His bro is the OC) is a top unit nationally. I would be comfortable with that.
