Good for Ronnie!!! http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/12/02/1953156/ronnie-brown-named-miami-dolphins.html
Always good to hear about players putting back into the community. The UK has a helluva lot to learn from US sports in this regard. Top marks to RB and all the other players who do this work
The award isn't meant for a players on field contributions to his team, its meant to recognize the players off field contributions to the community and society.
I don't want to take anything away from the good he is going with his various high school campaigns. From some articles I've read they have actually changed kids lives. But to be nominated as a Man of the Year in the same year you are arrested for DUI doesn't seem to sit right. I know Pennington has his "1st and 10" Charity. http://www.1stand10foundation.com/about-our_mission.php# I'd probably just go that way to avoid the bit of DUI/Man of Year hypocrisy.
He was driving down the highway after going to his parent's anniversary celebration in rural Georgia. He made a bad choice. You can blow over the legal limit and not even be that impaired in reality. It's not like he was out partying in NYC or running over and killing people.
Good for Ronnie but here we go again with defending him over the DUI. He himself said it was a mistake and that he shouldn't have been driving. He knows he was impaired. He drove into oncoming traffic for Christ sake. I guess I'm okay with the award because mistakes happen but to let him off the hook completely when he could have injured or killed someone is ludicrous.
I honestly believe with ronnie that the DUI was a one time very stupid mistake on his part. I dont think he will be anywhere near trouble again. Ronnie honestly is a classy guy and turning into a decent leader for this team.
I agree with JimToss, can't give it to him the year he gets a DUI, yes we all know it was dumb, we all know he is a high character guy and does good things, but its just wrong. The excuse that he was in rural Georgia and not NY makes no difference, over the limit is over the limit, and your just as dead in Georgia if hit by a car as you are in NY. Again, I like Brown, I think he is an overall great guy from what I read, but you don't award someone after a mistake like that.
DUI is serious but every single one of us have made mistakes we regret. I would be on board with you if he had a few or maybe even one more incident/s. Albeit a serious offense, he deserves the benefit of doubt ....
If he would get the ball more he would do more. I mean really he has no o-line. Were not giving him the chance to do anything and we need to unleash him because he could be a top 3 running back
I dont think they would give him a contract because of what he does off field. It is a nice plus but I dont think that goes into what teams are going to offer him.
Other then that one time when has he ever been in trouble, the guy makes on mistake. I could see this if Ronnie was behaving like pacman jones then we shouldnt give it to him but he made on mistake.
