........but the QB of the present is currently not on the roster.

Henne has a thousand great qualities but; He is inconsistent, rushes some throws, has some accuracy problems, and seems to always have more turnovers than his opponents.

This can be worked out in time, and with good mentoring / coaching. Two years down the road he will be our man, but winning now with an sort of consistency is not going to happen. He is the best young QB prospect in the NFL, but not this year....

I mean no disrespect to Henne when I say this but we desperately need to add competition at this position immediately if we are going to finish this season well. Which QB would you add to finish the season?? ....and who would you draft during the off season??

    :headscratch:

my approach would be to give him no competition in 2011. let him know he is the man. but if he doesnt improve then we look for our new QB in 2012

I do believe Henne is the guy, but I'm not opposed to healthy competition at the position...lol would be funny if Mallett and Henne were united once again.

I'm not even sure how to react to this. I don't see him as being the best young QB in the NFL. What about Matt Ryan? Flacco? Josh Freeman? Sanchez?

I'm not willing to risk wasting another season on a guy who has pretty consistently proven that he cannot read zone coverages.

We absolutely must bring another legimitate QB prospect into the fold this offseason, preferrably via the draft. Get him into the offseason program and let him spend some time in the system.

I think he actually needs to be forced to win his job in training camp for once.

I just don't see that happening. If they do that, Sparano and Co. are hinging their livelihood's on the fact his guy is it. Also, we've poured some serious money into Marshall, Dansby, and other FAs. So, I can't see the Fins just being careless, especially this group who prepare for everything, and say this is it...if it works it works, if not better luck next year.

I think you HAVE to bring in another QB for competition. The question is HOW you do it. The safest route is drafting a guy. You can have a competition and if Henne wins, you can say you're bringing the drafted QB along. If you go out and get a guy via trade/FA then you're basically saying he is the guy, because if not the draft pick will be viewed as wasted (who spends it on a backup QB, although I don't see it as a fail) or the money is wasted. That is unless you're looking at a lower level guy--like we with Thigpen, but that's not really solving any QB issues now is it?

I didn't mention the other QB's that you mentioned because I think they are fully developed already, and I don't think Henne is. Maybe I should have said it better, but what I meant was: he is the best young developing QB in the NFL.

He is a tremendous prospect but we need to win immediately to salvage both the season and possibly (worst case scenario) Sporano's job. We have competition at every other position: why not this one?? I have nothing against this kid, but this needs to improve.

I'm not sure we have the ability to bring in someone that Henne wouldn't be able to beat easily in training camp. Again, we have no shot at Luck, and we're not going to get a lights out FA QB signing.

Chad Henne is what we're stuck with, love him or hate him. A 2nd round pick or later is not going to beat Chad Henne (i know it's always possible, but its certainly not something we can bank on). Being a football fan is frustrating. You have to take solace in the fact that Henne has managed to win more games then hes lost while trying to be a better QB.

Being that Sanchez is like two years younger than him how is he fully developed but Chad Henne isn't? Is Henne just dumb or something? I don't understand this. Why are those other guys 'fully developed' but Chad Henne needs another year or so apparently to just not throw more INTS than TDs? We're not even asking him to be the second coming of Marino. Just productive.

no matter what they do Sparano and Ireland's careers are riding on Henne. They will never have the time necessary to develop a new QB so if they dont feel Henne is the guy they need to go the Free Agent route. If I wasd Ireland I would spend my entire draft on offense mainly the offensive line. Demarcus Love and maybe Schilling from Michigan. Then if you can find one, a RB with some breakaway speed. A TE would also be nice. Basically I think between free agency they have to get two offensive linemen, a TE and a young RB. If they can give Henne a running game REMINISCENT OF 2008 that would go further in henne's development than some new competition IMO

Having said that they have to find a way to get inside Henne's head and make him learn how to attack a cover 2 next offseason. Thats really all he needs to go from below average to good because he absolutely destroys man coverage for the most part

I am not sanguine on Henne and he has cost us about three games this year with INT's and throws out of panic instead of flushing the pocket or eating the ball. I don't think he has it between the ears to be a great QB in this league. Eating the ball never cost us the game but INT's sure as hell do/has. Lets face it: he is a lead footed interception thrower. No team could win that way.

ricky and ronnie play the most easily replaceable position in football. And their not playing so well that we might replace them anyway. With our current record and draft spot, we're staring Mark Ingram in the face right now.

I'll miss bell and its a shame he'll never get the chance to play in a real big game, but hes replaceable. We'll lose something in run coverage but we'll gain something in deep coverage.

thats fine but do you guarantee ireland and sparano that they have three years to develop the new QB you draft because I dont see what their incentive is to develop another QB for a new front office and coaching staff which is what will happen if Henne doesnt pan out

"...if Henne doesnt pan out?" He looks like our opponents best friend. Want the ball anyone? TS just covered the turnover issue in his presser and said it plainly: we can't win this way (paraphrased).

Remember what Shula did with Sammy Smith? He was a great talent, but fumbled all the time - he ditched him. It's time to do the same. We are the Miami Dolphins, exceptional play is expected. Dump this guy as our starter and move on. We were supposed to take the division this year - remember?

Because every single one of those other QB's were 1st round picks. People seem to forget Henne was a late 2nd round pick.

well, they were 1st rounders, and their teams are just better. Flacco wouldn't have gotten to where he is now with a lesser team. Flacco has looked down right terrible at times but that running game along with that defense pretty much make up for any mistakes he ever made. Matt Ryan has Roddy White, who legitimately may be making an argument for league MVP at WR! Sanchez has had a great defense and now he has Santonio Holmes.

We had high hopes coming into this season that Marshall would change our offense. With Marshall, our running game could only get better, right? Do you remember thinking that? What happened? this entire offense is to blame for this season and its because of that that we cannot truly say we've seen enough of Chad Henne. Every one of those QBs has a legitimate running threat and a great defense backing them up. We got the defense, we got a great wr, but the running game disappeared on us big time.

There are too many ifs surrounding Henne. So many that they should leave no stone unturned trying to find another one.

Let Henne stay but by no means would I call him the future. Make him work work work and see what happens. He was horrible today. Just horrible

I think Henne will have 2011 to prove whether or not he can be the Dolphins QB of the future. I still believe in him but he has things he needs to fix. Other than that, he needs help from other people. We desperately need a fast RB. In fact, we need a running game in general. I don't know what's happened to Ronnie and Ricky but the lack of running game to me was the downfall of the season. You got to help your young quarterback out. We also desperately need a new offensive coordinator for obvious reasons. It's just not working out with Henning.

Agreed. I honestly don't know what the answer is but I don't think Henne is it. Will he develop? Who has the time to find out. All I know is that we spent an awful lot of money to play 500 ball. I see no improvement over last year at all. Parcells never liked Henne, and he has built championship teams. Ireland and Sporano haven't

He's not better then any developing QB. How about Josh Freeman (TB), Sanchez (Jest), Bradford (StL). Most of the young guys have had far less experience then Henne too. And they are all much better.
Not to mention he is a 4 year starter at a big University. What did Sanchez, Freeman, Bradford, Ryan, Flacco or Brennan have? He's another Russell. A strong arm kid who can't read a defense. He'll be out of the NFL in three years.

Compare QB with QB. All those QBs you named has won games for their team. We're still waiting for Henne to do that. He has taken a huge step backwards and those other guys have not.

Exactly. Man Oz, you and me are thinking an awful lot alike today. Maybe not such a good thing for you, huh? lol!

Seriously though, I think what we all saw today is the QB position is still very much in question. And, competition at the position (as with every position) is a good thing. Pennington is done, so we need to add another QB anyway. Whether it's through the draft, or through FA, this teams needs to add another QB that can compete for the starting spot. Henne still deserves every opportunity to fight for his job, and definitely deserves a roster spot. But, by no means should he be anointed the starter beyond 2010. Not based on what I saw today.

    JMHO...
