I'm not the one *****ing about him. Henne had a bad day yesterday. It happens he is still young and needs some time. He is a first year starter who has lived through a rocky season all across the board for this team. I'm not ready to throw him away just yet like most of the impatient people here. They have not made things easy on the guy at all and this staff is under the gun way more than the young QB in my eyes. Nolan is the only one who really has a clue about what to do with young personnel IMO.
It is his second yr starting he has 25 starts in his career. Why not toss Palmer into that mix, especially if Thigpen leaves via FA?
Well, keep in mind BB, Pennington was benched before being waived himself, he did not look good in his final yr with the Jets either, and Palmer, like Penny led his team to the playoff the season before.
He was benched because the team couldn't tell the difference between a bad O-Line ad QB talent. He got benched for Kellen Clemens. Pennington said as much that he got benched through no fault of his own.
You know what i meant. First season as a full time starter. Even then they gave him the hook way to early this season. Anyone who thinks that benching didn't affect his confidence and his play is still out of their minds. After last week everyone anointed his turn around and said it didn't make a difference. This team has done everything possible to ruin a young QB because they have no clue how to handle one. It has been a mess. I know you are a Henne hater and impatient as hell on development. Two of your downfalls IMHO.
But he'd be great for the WC! FTR, while he may be a better runner than passer I consider that more a positive about his running than a negative about his passing.
If / when he shakes free from Oakland , I would grab Jason Campbell as a guy to have in the mix. Think he has been not been given much and has some upside . Wold be a low cost option.
Freroette is Henne! Henne is Frereotte! Seriously though, I would like to bring in Palmer to compete with Henne, if Henne beats him out, then he could take the Pennington role and we can add a developmental Qb assuming Thiggy leaves and they are not Brandstater fans, though I like Brandstater as a prospect, the Colts and Broncos both deal in Qb's and they liked him enough to spend time on him.
Pennington is 1000% more accurate than Palmer. He had an 86.1 QBR his last year with the Jets, and I don't remember him being benched. I though he got hurt? Like I said - have at Palmer. But honestly, you would be better with a half armed Pennington.
That is a good idea d22, Campbell does have starting experience and is talented I do suspect he mirrors Henne's flaws though.
nah, Penny is done BB when a Qb is so fragile he cannot be tackled the career is over. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6337 Well, surprisingly enough, Palmer's ratio is 20 td's to 15 int's and he is ahead of Henne in every category save for completion percentage. YMMV.
Newton is playing in an offense that makes him look like a God. Colt Brennan knows a little something about looking good in college. If we bring in Cam Newton, I think he might end up being a project again. Then we'll be on the board *****ing about how long it takes to groom a QB and that we should have taken one higher in the first round. Then The calls for Ramsey will be underway. Some people proclaiming a new "hero" under center next year and we'll be crying about not having Andrew Luck. Unless a guy of Aaron Rodgers's caliber drops to the 26th pick or so like he did, I just don't want a damn project. What pisses me off is when other fans say get Palmer and develop Mallet or Locker or something. Is the problem developing QB's or is it really just with Henne?
TO, Gresham, Shipley, Ochocinco. BM, Fasano, Bess, Hartline. We win one category and it's Bess vs. Shipley. They also have great Special Teams and don't start at the 20 most drives. There's also that Cedric Benson guy with 300 more Rushing yards than Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams. You of all people shouldn't be using stats to prove a point or is Stat-monkery usable where convenient for you?
I think Palmer is 10 times the QB Henne is, but something is not right with him anymore. He had a decent year last year. A year Henne has never sniffed in his two years starting. But something just isn't right.
Hmm, the more I consider it: -low acquisition cost -relatively young at 30 -would allow another young Qb to be developed if they decided to move on from Henne -skilset matches what we do on offense I kind of like this idea, as has been said though, months before anything could happen. I could see Hartline and a #4 pick...
Kolb makes something like 1.75 million next year, after making aroun 11 million this year. His contract was structured to allow him to get paid up front, and to be able to have cap room going into the next CBA. Remember, this year is uncapped, so why not in the eagles mind give him everythign up front and get him on the cheap on the back. The Eagles will Franchise Vick for 12-13 Million, and have Kolb for around 2. Which will put their cost at Quarterback next year at the same as this year. This year Kolb is at 11-12 and Vick is at 3-4. Kolb won't get moved for less then 2 1st round picks, and a 2nd round pick. I say go grab Kolb if you want to pay that, or Grab Palmer and deal with the Cap hit. Kolb is also only signed through 2011, so to ask for that ransom is insane--which is exactly what they wanted last offseason. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=nfl&id=4151
I know they wanted a fortune for Kolb, but I also find it hard to believe there will be a cap imposed quickly no matter when the labor issues are settled, why would teams cut their own throats if they are over the cap? As for Palmer, I agree his physical skills are not what they were, however I also think he is a better Qb than the rest of the market has to offer, Campbell isn't poor, but he is much like Henne in his flaws, Orton will not hit the FA market. Palmer and his 11 million dollar contract will probably the best the market has to offer, and "if" Sparano survives this season this will be his last shot to earn an extension in Miami..if he likes Palmer he should pull the trigger otherwise it is Henne, Thigpen, and hope...
Palmer hasn't been the same QB since his knee injury...and I'm not sold on Kolb...no thanks, I'll pass
Cam Cameron and company i guess wanted Kolb and he got drafted and settled for John Beck? Hmm, interesting. http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/hyde/blog/ 3. Cam Cameron and John Beck. Remember the furor when Cameron/Randy Mueller didn’t choose Brady Quinn with the No. 1 pick ? They took Ted Ginn Jr. with the top pick and Beck in the second round. Fans went crazy. As it turns out, Kevin Kolb was the choice, but it’s hard to second-guess this one in retrospect. This draft shows just how difficult it is to assess quarterbacks. The QBs drafted that year: JaMarcus Russell (first overall), Quinn (22), Kolb (36), Beck (40), Drew Stanton (43), Trent Edwards (92), Isaiah Stanback (103), Jeff Rowe (151), Troy Smith (174), Tyler Thigpen (21
I'm not saying Henne is done growing but if they look at a qb, I wouldn't mind Orton(as another poster suggested) as I don't think hes getting respect in Denver.
Kyle Orton would be perfect to bring in and have him compete with Henne. With McDaniels being fired this could be a strong possibility. Always thought Orton was underrated.
Chicago never developed him properly. Instead they drafted Grossman and gave up on Orton. It worked out well for them.
Started basically an entire season? Known commodity? Where are you getting that from? He started one game in 2004. He started 1 game in 2005. He came in and played some garbage time in 2006, but no start. Where does that equate to a full season? He was as much an unknown quantity as is Kolb. He got the payday because of his big game against NE--his 1 start--in 2005. His issue wasn't health. He didn't have health issues until he got to Houston--which by the way he started the first 13 weeks until he got his first injury.
Yes...and I hope he does " kill " Sparano and get him and Henning the hell out of Miami, then maybe we'll finally get someone in here who knows how to run a productive NFL offense and take advantage of the talent we do have.
I guess I`m not as opposed to bringing in Palmer as most seem to be, but I think it`s only because I desperately want change. If next September rolls around and Chad Henne is the QB and Dan Henning is the OC I will throw a temper tantrum of epic proportions. Seriously, if this happens, I may have to turn the page.
Ouch, hmm, assuming there is football next Fall, I am not prepared to turn the page on a season with the defense playing as well as it has been, but going back into a full season with Henne at Qb is a leap of faith that probably should not be taken. I'd rather go with Palmer.
