After yesterday, this network/thread should probably go to an old re-run. However, there were some good things worthy of mention. Aside from Dansby's coverage, our front 7 played a hell of a game. "The Beast" Hillis had 57 yards and was not a factor. Divine Bess and Fasano played well. Fields, Carpenter, and ST's coverage also did well, aside from the blocked FG. That's all I got.
-Defense played great, but missed the game-clincher. -Offense, played like crap. Run-game never really took off, passing game stalled in the big situation. -I was speechless throughout, so I got to save my breath.
Our playoffs hopes are gone so I don't have to be stressed out at gametime. Antoher season down the drain.
Well: Defense is really peaking with Soliai playing at a really high level, my goodness was he dominant Alex Mack is having a good season and he never had a chance vs Big Paul. -Nolan Carroll's outstanding work as a kick returner continues, that dude is fearless -Fields good work continued -ditto DC Cash Refuse to talk about that miserable excuse for an offense, if they cash their game checks they should be arrested for grand larceny.
The good news from yesterday? It's decision time. Jeff Ireland either marries Tony Sparano to Chad Henne or we draft a Quarterback in the top ten of the 2011 draft.
There were a few breakdowns in coverage vs Watson, and a trip or two. That happens. Overall, our D is playing twice as good as I thought they would, and are gonna get better. Bess, Fasano, and a one armed Long can cash their checks. No one else on O.
For me, Henne is a very tuff choice. I see a lot of talent but, also see many dumb mistakes. On this one, I'm gonna wait.
Man was I wrong about the team yesterday.. I have 2 dilemma's moving forward....QB....my biggest concerns seem to be coming to a head...0 escapability, cannot extend a play mentally, or physically..Once he realizes his read is not open, there are limited skills to deal when play needs to be extended .. I dont want an offense moving forward that can only function out of a perfect pocket.. Are these weaknesses at the QB position almost directly responsible to making us a horrible home team the past 2 years?...
You and I have that luxury. They go into 2011 with Henne as the starter and have a repeat performance - somebody gets the axe.
AJ Smith had that same dilemma and he's never looked back from the decision he made. A lot of people like to pull the Brees card when it comes to Henne, but strangely not a one of them can remember how Rivers ended up in San Diego. I suppose history is only important when it's convenient. ***EDIT*** I posted this prior to seeing the post that you made in another thread. I wasn't singling you out, just making the general statement that a lot of folks are touting Brees without looking at the follow-up. Brees has a bad year, that's AJ's job down the line. So he did what he had to do. I'm not attacking you from cross threads, just making a post I thought was relevant to this one. Besides, I don't disagree with your other post, just stating the scenario.
I have never played that card emo but I would like to be enlightened on the Rivers situation. Unless you mean the Eli trade and I'm pretty sure thats common knowledge.
Eli, Rivers, either or. Smith looked at the situation and realized that if he didn't have a QB, that was going to be his ***. So he got one. He didn't know that Brees was going to be the comeback player of the year, but he wasn't going to risk a repeat and his job down the line. That's the crossroads we're at with Henne.
I get it and I totally agree. The thing is that everyone kept there job by making the playoffs. If we get a repeat of this season next year with no Quarterback of the future in line, at least one head will roll. Just as it would have in Marty's case. 12-4 saved Marty's job. They were done with him in San Diego.
Peyton Hillis was not allowed to score a touchdown for only the second time this season, the other was against Pittsburgh and I heard somewhere that they have a good defense. The mission was to shut down Hillis: mission accomplished. The defense held the Browns to ten points over 59 minutes. Up until yesterday, the Browns have not won a game this year in which they scored fewer than 20 points. That is a formula for victory.
I think when they are eliminated from the playoffs by math, they fire Sparano and promote Henning to Head Coach.
I don't think Ross can afford to wait. He needs to do something, because he is about to lose a lot of season ticket holders. I know of three in my office that said they are done with buying tickets. They will get NFL Sunday ticket and just wait until the team decides to get its act together. One of them has been a season ticket holder for 36 years, since he was a teenager and went with his parents. That is sad that this team has run off people that have been that loyal, but he said he just can't take it anymore. Its expensive and just not very fun anymore. Its more hassle than anything else.
Well, they are only second in line. They being the season ticket holder. When he can't get the boxes sold, that's when they are done for sure.
and queues our perpetuating cycle, of parting ways with any and all comers who fail to prove themselves beyond reproach within a three year term, to make room for the next wouldbe savior. One whose name packs enough sufficient buzz, and whose portfolio boasts enough storied success, that their signing alone will appease the season ticket buying audience, enough to ante up for the next three, or until they implode trying, whichever comes first. It might be tough to find one with such credentials, willing to simply take over while keeping our best assets in place, rather than restructure or rebuild.
we wont have a top 10 pick so thast unlikely, especially without a 2nd for moving up... I liked our defense, played well obviously... Run defense has really been clamping down the past few weeks... other good news is Dan Henning is 1 day closer to retirement...
My thoughts on Henning, for this game, are that he did not play call for 3 picks, did not play call for a horrible game from Henne, and there were many plays left out on the field undone due to execution. That being said, if we find a better option, similiar to Nolan taking over the D, it is time to move on. I would consider David Lee, and Penny as a QB coach.
