The Miami Dolphins #1 priority this offseason should be trading for Kyle Orton.

Our third round pick and a player should do it. Kyle Orton only signed a one year deal for 9 million dollars through 2011 with the Broncos. I am sure he wants a longer contract with more job security, he is only 28 years old.

THIS is the kind of QB Miami needs for the next 2-3 years until we can find our next Dan Marino.

    Kyle Orton's current stats for 2010: 20 TD passes/6 INT/3487 yards...all with 4 more games to go.

    Orton's 2009 stats: 21 TD passes/12 INT/3802 yards

Trade our 3rd for Orton and trade down with our #1 and draft BPA, or if we can't trade down stay put and just draft BPA as long as it is not LT.

    What do you all think?

Maybe. But, possibly the Owner wants to see his first round pick playing (Tebow) sooner rather than later? Probably sooner looking at how pathetic the Broncos are this year. I look for Orton to be traded before the draft.

I like Orton but don't forget we don't have a 2nd this year. So no 2nd or 3rd if we traded for Orton. Maybe we can trade someone for him. That I'd be for.

Kyle Orton > our 3rd round pick

But I still think it will take our 3rd plus a player (Crowder?) for Orton, and I would make that trade in a heartbeat. We probably will have a mid-third round pick too, which helps.

I have a better idea. Draft playmakers, get a QB if need be in 2012. Kyle Orton hasn't taken any team anywhere and he certainly isn't about to this year. There is no QB I can see outside of somehow taking Luck that might give us a chance at winning. And with luck that winning isn't until 2012 or later. Stats are not the whole story and the system makes QB's look good. We don't seem to know how to mold a system around a QB.

I don't think the FO will trade our 3rd for him. Not without a 2nd. We love our draft picks, as we should.

Hmmm I think ortons a pretty underrated qb. He's not great or anything but I don't think he deserves the hate he seems to get here.

That is a possibility. Tim Tebow is one of the most popular players in the NFL. His jersey sales are number one. Bowlen could be seeing dollar signs if Tebow works out. However that will reduce the coaches can hire since I doubt all of them that are available would want Tebow as their QB

I think the Vikings look like a good trading partner for Chad Henne. I see their 4th round pick and maybe a player in our near future before the draft.

I'm going to assume the Broncos sucking is not his fault. But he obviously can't carry a team. However, he has 20 TDs and only 6 INTs...so he's obviously better.

With the right supporting cast he could be solid, so I don't understand the hate either. He's not Peyton Manning but he could be an Eli Manning. When Eli has the right players around him he can win a Super Bowl obviously.

    Yes...I would support Orton.

I don't think its likely that Orton goes anywhere. Whomever the new coach is he'll want stability. I also don't anticipate Bowlen being in any hurry to play Tebow. He was a first round pick, but not a top 5 guy with the onerous contract. I also don't see the logic in trading Henne for a 4th.

Is Kyle Orton a franchise QB plain and simple. That's it. That's all you have to ask. I don't think he is. I don't think he can make all the throws. His deep outs are poor and his deep throws are not accurate. His release is not quick. I think he's a guy that can pump stats out the wazoo for passing yards. So can Chad Henne, albeit in a different way of passing.

So in all honesty it's Mallet, a massive trade up for Luck, or we stay put and see what the team can do under more Henne. Or Palmer.

    Agreed completely.

There simply is nothing special about Orton.
We stick with Henne, bring in a vet (have not looked at what may be available) and use a draft pick on another young QB.
Hopefully we'll be able to trade back and pick up a 2nd rounder back. Fill some important spots and draft a QB.

Besides, whey would Denver get rid of him anyway?
    Tim Tebow? LOL.

I have a better idea. Why don't we just hire the guy who has made Orton look like a top flight NFL QB while keeping all our picks.

Why would the Broncos give up their starting QB who is having a stellar season for a 3rd? Maybe if we ask nicely the Texans will give up Schaub instead?

I'm at a loss as to why people are so quick to want to get rid of Henne. He has shown more than enough promise and he will have terrible games like last week.

Henne and Sanchez have almost identical stats except Henne is more accurate believe it or not. Sanchez was absolutely horrible last night but I don't see any Jets fans looking to trade for Orton while offloading Sanchez for a pittance.

I'm not exonerating Henne for the awful performance at the weekend but for most of the 2nd half all 3 of our WR on the field didn't even get drafted. Sanchez is throwing to 3 #1 picks behind one of the best run blocking lines in the league and putting up similar numbers.

We should know by the end of the season if Henne has any hope. If there is not marked improvement then we will have to look for someone to at least provide good competition at the position. This team can't afford to sit back and wait for Henne to eventually show he is the future.

I'd be into Orton based on 2 assumptions -

    a.) He could be had for a player or low draft pick - 3rd or cheaper;

    and

b.) He is not looked upon as our long term solution to QB. We still pony up our first round pick for a QB in this draft or next when a franchise QB prospect is available.

While I'd support Orton, the fact is he has success because of the system he plays in. They put the ball in his hands, send out their receivers, and say "**** it, have fun.". With our coach's conservative play style, it wouldn't work out. Unless of course, we hire new coaches, or our current ones get their heads out of their collective ***.

Me, personally, and I've been attacked over this before, I would draft Mallet. I love the kid.

Not a Franchise QB? 20 TD passes and only 6 INTs in 12 games isn't good enough for you? LOL...we would be 8-4 or better right now if Kyle Orton was our QB all year.

    Sorry you can't say that.

You have no idea what Orton would be doing with this offense.
He certainly would NOT have the stats he has now as Miami is far from the wide open gun slinging O Denver has been using.

They have Tim Tebow waiting to start for sure eventually, and I said originally that it would take our third PLUS a player, possibly Crowder.

I also think the new Head Coach/GM(maybe) will want as many draft picks as possible to mold the team's future into what he wants. Our #3 might be an early one next draft.

I think there is a good chance Denver trades Kyle Orton before or during the draft.
