Alrighty, looks bleak but it could still happen..here is what we need: Colts, Chargers, Raiders (which would be great) to finish 10-6 Dolphins finish 10-6 Ravens finish 10-6
Then it is better for us if the Raiders win that game we need another team to finish 10-6 and NOT win their division. We need the Ravens to finish 2-2, if they reach 3 wins, disregard this thread. As an aside, that dolt Volin, when told of a 3 way tie possibility, said "Ravens hold head to head advantage", 3 way tie removes that from the table..he did not know that factoid.
Here we have another Rah-Rah thread by people who just don't get it. Here I will spell it out for you........ THE DOLPHINS WILL NOT BE IN THE PLAYOFFS...... Get over it and get on with your winter and we'll come back for the draft........geeeesh ! Now lets debate more about who the next head coach will be (because I don't think Sparano will be back)
Well, allow me to spell it out for you in your turn: I am a dolphins fan, until we are eliminated you will be subjected to such threads, if you no likey, no clicky on the thread title, it will save you aggravation. Sorry bro, I never was much of a bandwagon fan, when things are tough I do not whine...
i'll believe and hope until we're mathematically eliminated... last year Jets were 6-6 after this week also... they made the conference championships... time for Sparano and Henning to realize what we've been doing for 12 weeks isn't working... there is no reason not to switch it up, open up the offense some more, and see what happens... our offense cant get any worse than its been... sorry we love you Polite, but i dont want to see you in the game as often as you are... bring another WR on the field... spread out defenses and let Henne attempt to make the right read...
Its not a hard concept, elimination is the only way to not discuss what it would take...thats how it goes every season and should for every franchise. why root for a team if you go FETAL before you are ELIMINATED. sad.... Its not a question of odds....its a question of math plain and simple. Once eliminated, I will gladly move on with other aspects of this franchise and direction.
Bandwagon ? I'm no bandwagon fan my friend. I am a realist, and I know when we've been defeated. I look at it, and are looking to the future instead of wasting time on a present that is lost. A bandwagon fan wouldn't still be interested, wouldn't have a sick feeling of watching the Jets & Patriots play for the division lead last night. A bandwagon fan wouldn't be so angry. A bandwagon fan would have jumped on the Patriots butts years ago. So GTFOH with the bandwagon sh*t.
Exactly, as Dungy said: "A must win game is either one in the playoffs, or one that if you lose, you are eliminated from playoff contention" We are not there..yet,. the Ravens have to lose to the Texans and Cleveland or Cinci, if they lose to NOLA it does not hurt them as much, of course a loss is a loss but AFC losses are what the dolphins require.
A team that loses to the cleveland Browns, starting Jake Delhomme, at home, to bring your home record to 1-5 is not a team that belongs in the playoffs. While I appreciate the desire for optimism and hope, it's a pipe dream.
Well, TBH, this weekend is pretty much it as we have to beat the Jets and it would be a tremendous help if the Texans beat the Ravens, right now the Birds hold a Conference advantage to us of 6-3, we are 4-4, a win moves us to 5-4 and a Ravens loss moves them to 6-4, and they have the Saints coming to Baltimore next week, we have the Bills or Lions, a win puts us at 8-6, a Ravens loss puts them at 8-6 with a one game advantage in Conference record. And believe me when I say, it is grim, but we ain't dead yet, who knows what effect the spanking the Jets had last night effects them moving forwards.
It sure is....thats not the point......odds are long and not bright.....BUT IF....JUST IF.....we did, we would look back on the loss to CLE (and others) and realize each week no guarantees exist in NFL. We lost to 6 teams....we beat 10. So be it - those types of BAD losses happen (NE lost to CLE). If we dont make the playoffs so be it too...but for now.....its still there.
Interesting thing is the Browns also play the Ravens in a game that could mean an awful lot, or not much at all, to our playoff chances the Browns and Ravens have a huge rivalry from the Art Modell days so they will not just mail it in. Besides, the pressure is off of the Dolphins now, if anything we can all sit back and chill and just enjoy the games.
We can't beat the Browns at home with Delhomme at QB. Do you REALLY want to have to go to Foxboro and play the Pats? Watch the tapes of last night's game. that would be the outcome.
All I know is....waving a white flag is giving up. Until we CANT be in the playoffs....Im gonna keep my hopes up.... Ive seen this team play very well...and show they can beat anyone....they just dont do it consistantly....maybe the moon and stars align..I dont know....but its not impossible.
But we all know AFC East is bizzaro world, toss the records aside each matchup. Nothing makes sense with who has beaten who etc, etc. We have to go to Foxboro in week 17 regardless. This strange season, would not surprise me if we only beat NYJ and NE out of our final 4 games. Losing to CLE sucks only because of what was at stake (still longshot if we did beat them as far as season is going)....losing to them from NFL standpoint is what it is...any given sunday when you BEAT YOURSELF it seems.
Why not start your own thread and debate it? Why not actually bring something to the table? If I didn't want to read this, I wouldn't have read it. Shouldn't you follow that formula?
I rememer that time the Patriots only scored 14 against the Browns who ran up the score on them. It was a while ago. 2010 I believe.
I do think the Ravens or Jets will finish 10-6...but I just don't see the Dolphins living up to their end and winning out. We still have 2 home games left after all, where the Dolphins are 1-7 in their last 8 in Miami. They'll probably beat the Jets to get people's hopes up especially if the Ravens lose...only to come back and lose to either Buffalo or Detroit. [Buffalo to continue the win-loss-win-loss trend]
Our playoffs went down the toilet against Cleveland. Anyone who thinks otherwise better put down the crack pipe.
We need two AFC losses by the Ravens, and we have to win out, and have one of: -Raiders -chargers -colts Finish 10-6 Longshot to be sure, however we are not eliminated..yet.
Can't argue with that D1B, however until we are eliminated such things should be looked at seriously and accurately.
Mathematically, we still have a chance. The possibility is there. The fact is though, that we haven't been playing like a playoff team. I didn't see any urgency from them on Sunday, and even Henne said "it's not life or death". Our defense is playoff caliber, for sure. But our offense borders on anemic at times, and lacks an identity. I just don't see them playing with the ferocity you expect from a playoff team.
I do have a glimmer of hope...but I'm not completely getting my hopes up. I'll get my hopes up if we win these next 2 games. Beating the Jets would make everything better though.
That would help, as for "hope" I am not sure I have much of that, the odds are very long against us all I can do is watch the Dolphins perform and see if we get any help from other teams. I do have goals for the team though: -winning record, 9-7 -Defense finishing Top 5 -Special Teams cracking the Top 10
What the hell hast the last decade of mediocrity done to some of you guys? Seriously, we've still got a mathematical chance to get into the playoffs. Did the Jets deserve to coast into the playoffs last year? No. But they went in and made the most of their opportunity. I'm pessimistic myself, but no reason to poo poo on everyone elses parade just because misery loves company.
One thing struck me whem listening to Brady's post game press conference. He said , if you want to win your division , you can't lose twice to a team.... Somewhat obvious perhaps , but love the mindset , we need to be able to beat NE and the Yets , at least once before we can fathom being a real contender.
No, we need one of them to finish 10-6 and NOT win their division, we need a foil for the Ravens to erase the head to head loss to them and a 3 way tie accomplishes that for us. BTW my goal for Henne has not changed: 19 Td's 3,000 yds passing.
How about Colts 8-8 Ravens 9-7 Jets 9-7 Miami 9-7 (with our loss to Detroit) and we get in the playoffs Don't give up yet guys/gals...This is like losing to Buffalo a few years ago and Chambers completing that comeback...We all thought that game was done We win this week we stay alive no matter what else happens
Padre, As you know, I am not a bandwagon fan. The Brown's loss drained me of any playoff chance. We were ever so close with that game, and the Pitt call. It just did not happen. I REALLY believe that miracles can happen, and it would take one to be in the playoffs. Realistically, I cannot see it happening.
A thread like this existed last week before the Browns game. Of course it was assumed the Phins would win that game and look what happened. The team is done this year.
