So here we go... Official website: http://www.swtor.com/ Not much on it yet, few interviews, few previews...Looks promising tho. Can you say "WoW Killer?" Because is sure as heck looks like it. I like the fact that EVERY DECISION MATTERS (they say so at least) unlike everywhere else, go there, do that...or this and that...blah blah. Cant save and re-load ))) They already introduced the first class: Bounty Hunter. Interesting. The events take place 300 years after the kotor/2 events, so dont expect anything from your old characters, and like 3500 years before the movies, Darth Vader showing up and so on...Sith came out of nowhere, attacked the republic, destroys the jedi temple (i think), and re-builds the academy on Korrban, a treaty was signed, but it looks like its gonna go bye bye the moment you start playing ))) Anyways, enjoy the vids, and tell me what ya think. p.s. Oh, and every class will have their own "companion" im assuming it will be something like the party mode in kotor, but only one person, and you wont be able to plays as "them" But you can be nice or not so nice, and help them with whatever they gotta do, or just make them your slave. p.s.s. http://www.swtor.com/user/refer/ Register for news letter.
my lord....I think im looking at my lifes soon to be biggest time sink....My wife is going to hate that game.
I don't have that anticipation I get, when i see i game that I really want, and im not like "OMG they need to release it" because i got a feeling that i need to enjoy all other games as much as i can...becuase when this baby drops, i gotta feeling there wont be any other games for a looooooooong time for me.
x2 i have really calmed down on my gaming time since i stopped playing WOW anout 2yrs ago, but this will get me back for sure, i love star wars and the kotor series. i wonder if there is a guestimated release date? i was googling and it said they have been developing it since winter '05, anyone have any clue to how long these things take?
In the interview the dude said (of course it could be a big pile of bs) that this game is bigger than ALL of the bioshock games combined. Data wise. So i know its pretty big. Havent found any guesstimates, but im hoping that by new years they will have it going.
Jedi and Bounty hunter are the only "released" classes...Im sure Smuggler will be another I wonder what some of the others will be ??
I wouldn't say WoW killer by any means. That term has been thrown around so many times, but none have lived up to it. I believe SWTOR does have potential due to Bioware's reputation of putting out good RPG's. Lets hope LA doesn't rush this as they did on KOTOR 2 & hopefully Bioware learns from other MMO's mistakes. Another thing is in this economy it would be smart of Bioware to allow low end PCs to play the game. Lastly, Bioware needs to start making Mac version's of their games. They would make so more $ that way.
They have an online comic by Dark Horse that shows the events leading up to the game. It's a good read. Since I don't really get into MMORPG's (too time consuming), it'd be hard for me to do anything more than a quick glance for a few months even if it is good. Just wish they can come up with a regular RPG on the consoles/PC ala Mass Effect. Heck, I'd even take a re-skinning of Mass Effect in a SW universe.
Any idea where you could get it for free? Its 2.99 per comic. And there at 40 something and counting.
Actually the series for the game is free. It's an offshoot of the other KOTOR series which is centuries earlier. I have the link posted somewhere on this sub-forum.
If you want to play Sci Fi MMO's, come play Eve-Online with me! It started out as a great passion of mine, as a hobby, and today I have the pleasure of getting paid to work on my passion
For those who are interested in this game, they just revealed their crafting system this past friday, and I know for most people that isn't very exciting, they seemed to have put enough of a twist on it to make it interesting. http://swtor.com/info/systems/crew-skills
Awesome idea. Adds some good elements from Eve Online. Especially if I can command my people from my smart phone. That would make me always feel part of the game and keep me wanting to pay the subscription fee.
i cry a little inside everytime i see "kotor" and "mmo" together. I hope for the mmo-fan's sake that this game is fantastic.
Yup I'll be so all over it I've intentionally not played an MMO since Warhammer Online just to make sure I wasn't burned out on MMO's in time for this.
GIMME MY SHIP BACK I LOST :P (Char is Jags4ever , some mong GM just refused me it ) Eve-Online is awesome , been playing it for nearly 6 years now. Know a guy who was on a short alpha test for SWTOR and said it looks and plays very much like WoW with a Star Wars skin on it. Not much Star Warsey stuff added in yet but the voice acting is immense
