Liked reading the info on Yates and I've seen the majority of his games, though I'm watching as a fan and not really evaluating his every move. Before this season I think fans were a little wary with him but he's played pretty great this year and stock has risen, always good to see improvement. For example in his bowl game last year I don't remember him playing too well and had little faith in him when UNC needed a late minute drive, this year I would have more confidence in him getting the job done. As CK mentioned UNC has lost players not only due to the violations but also injury, including their primary receiving target (Pianalto) and rusher (White), but still managed to put together a good year. They've been close on so many games and I honestly believe if they wouldn't have lost as many players they could be sitting with possibly just one loss, and yes Pianalto was interfered with against LSU! :tantrum: Seems really poised and confident, will be interested to see where he goes.

And just a bone to pick but find it funny when so many posters say Clausen isn't the answer after a couple of starts his rookie year, but will yell Henne needs more time after three years and nearly two seasons as a starter. And I like Henne and hope he finishes the season strong, but just find that situation funny. Not saying I think Clausen will be a pro bowler either but I thought he looked ok in the preseason and has done better his last few games. Stat monkery and one game anecdote time.

16-28, 195 yards, 0 TD/1 INT Final drive with 12 seconds left throws a 28 yard sideline pass to set up a 42 yard field goal attempt that bounces off the upright no good.
16-32, 174 yards, 1 TD/3 INT Final drive has pass tipped at line that gets intercepted and sets up game winning field goal for other team.

Clausen and Henne's stats against the Browns.

I wasn't saying any of those should necessarily take precident over QB (if they decide to move on from Henne) or C, just that those are some other needs.

Incognito has been okay, but unless the offensive philosophy changes they need much better play from the interior of their line. I don't see a blocking TE as a need really, if anything the need would be a seam busting TE. Fasano is a very solid blocker.

With a vertical threat on the other side, it would greatly benefit this offense. I agree that the ILB you need would be that thumper type. I don't think that's Dobbins though. He's been better the past couple games, but he was awful in the beginning of the year. I'm not sure you use a 1st round pick on one, but I think it's certainly a need.

I don't think this team can wait another year to bring in a HB or a deep threat. Ronnie has not looked like the old Ronnie this year and while part of that can be blamed on the interior line and part on Henning, until last game I just didn't see the burst and ferocity he used to have. Even with Ronnie back though, you need another back to go with him. Not only do you worry about the lack of production with him, but the injury history is something you have to worry about with him. As far as a deep threat, I don't think you need to go after any of those top flight guys, but this offense needs a guy that can stretch the field deep. This draft is going to be absolutely loaded at WR and you should be able to find a solid player later on.

Wake leads the league in sacks and has been amazing, but that's about it in the pass rush department. Misi has been solid, but he's not really a pass rusher. IAF has been a solid backup but nothing more, same with Moses. In a 3-4 defense you need to have a stable of pass rushers and the Dolphins flat out don't have that right now. Again, I'm not saying you need to take one in the 1st round, in fact I don't think they should because ideally you have your two starting OLBs for the forseeable future, but it's something that has to be addressed.

The stats weren't the issue for me really. I just kept hearing people talk up Yates how he was having such a great bounce back year so I was suprised at how bad I thought he looked in that game. Maybe, it was just one bad game, but in all the games I've seen him play over the past couple years (not a huge sample size) I just don't see anything I really like. But again, I defer to you on this because I'm sure you've seen much more of him than I have and have a better eye for talent.

Well, having watched the game now, I would have to say that I disagree that he played poorly. He had the bad throw that went for an interception. And there were a few sacks he took that weren't totally necessary, he could have thrown the ball away. But I've never seen receivers, including tight ends and backs, get so thoroughly manhandled at the line of scrimmage and erased off the board to where a QB literally has no options, on a ton of the passing downs. One of the great tragedies of Randy Shannon's tenure is that there is actually talent there especially on defense. I love Brandon Harris. I love Ray Ray Armstrong. I like Vaughn Telemaque. Allen Bailey castrated Ingersoll in that game, played up to his full potential. Sean Spence and Colin McCarthy played up to their capability, which was a nice change. And for all that, there was a touchdown missing from North Carolina's side of the scoreboard simply because his WR decided to fumble the ball as he was entering the end zone on a would-be touchdown pass. That TD would have made the game a lot more competitive.

Similar things happened against Virginia Tech, but they also executed a really nice defensive game plan that involved having the back side corner come up and take away the deep routes.

I mean I just got done watching some more of that TCU guy, and though he showed some nice accuracy early in the game on some good 20 to 35 yard passes, his accuracy and ball placement broke down and eventually he was throwing deep verticals that were woefully underthrown. You think that Henne pass to Hartline was woefully underthrown? You haven't seen woefully underthrown unless you watched Andy Dalton go up against Colorado State, of all teams. For all you have people talking up Andy Dalton and rating him ahead of T.J. Yates, when I watch the two on tape it's not even close. Not. Even. Close.

ANYONE castrates Mike Ingersoll. He's the 2nd worst offensive lineman I've graded this year.

How many head coaches has he been through? C'mon... New England's offensive system hasn't changed once since Brady has been the QB. Belichick controls everything. But like I said in an earlier post. It's pointless to debate whether Brady is a system QB because we can never know for sure.

Good point. Even if we re-sign Ronnie Brown can we depend on Ricky Williams again (like we did in 2009) if Ronnie gets injured? We should probably draft Vai Taua in the 5th round if he's still on the board.

    Easier said than done.

What do you guys think about Denarius Moore from Tennessee?

When we get Odrick back that should help our pass rush a lot. I am not saying it will but it should. What do you guys think about Steven Friday from Virginia Tech? Possible late round gem?

The guy I really want is Pernell McPhee from Mississippi St if he's still on the board in the 3rd round.

How far will Greg Romeus drop due to his injury?

Or Vincent Brown from San Diego St?

    Aldrick Robinson from SMU?

    Kris Adams from UTEP?

    James Rodgers from Oregon State?

If that's what you saw, then I trust your opinion.

As far as Miami's talent goes, I couldn't agree more. There was so much wasted talent under Shannon it's mind blowing. And while it seems like a good amount of those defensive guys will end up making it in the NFL, guys like LaRon Byrd and Aldarius Johnson seem to have regressed greatly. Hopefully their next coaching staff can bring out that talent they showed in their freshman season.

On that subject, I'm actually curious to see what you guys think of Colin McCarthy. I really love this kid. He obviously has the injury issues, but when he was healthy he was the Hurricanes most consistant player not named Brandon Harris and even after moving inside this year with a coaching staff lacking in the teaching department seemed to make an impact in most games.

That's just me though dude. I'm down on Allen Bailey. Seen him get taken out of far too many games for me to feel even remotely comfortable with him.

Denarius Moore is a good player. Does all the little things well. But he has some off field issues which will be a concern.
