Did Henne just take another baby step in his development?

Interesting but for the first time I'm seeing Henne anticipate his receivers breaks on a consistent basis. Its early in the 2nd qtr but the TD pass to Maarshall and the drop by Bess on third down were great throws that were made before the receivers got open. I hope it continues because if it does its just another step closer to developing into that franchise QB we need

Well after that fumble in FG range, I've seen it all. Should've went to the wildcat and kicked the Field Goal, it's the type of game where a FG means a ton. If the Dolphins lose it's on Henne....AGAIN.

Ricky and Ronnie are doing fairly well against one of the best Run D's in the league with no help at all.

Henne is not the franchise QB that this coaching staff thought. He is nothing more then a good backup. Aslong as he is starting, this team will be average.

this post wasnt about the rest of his gm. it was simply stating that i'm beginning to see him anticipate breaks of his receivers rather then waiting for them to get open before throwing

His biggest problem is his slow decision making. We can blame the coaching staff for preaching and practicing the safe throws but he needs to take his game to the next level.

These two man routes need to go. This is rookie level stuff.

I am starting to think that the only thing Henne could develop is a good case of Hemorrhoids.

You have to be kidding. That was one of the worst QB perfromances I have ever seen. 55 yards passing and he looked lost. Pathetic.

You must be kidding. Henne is our future on the bench. If he is our starter next year, I will hang myself. I truly believe without a doubt in my mind that Rosenfelds is better than Henne.

he did regress in the 2nd half back to waiting for a receiver to get open but he was doing it in the first twenty minutes of the game. i havent really seen him do that before. it seems to me he figured out you cant always wait for the receiver to make his break. small step but a step nontheless

lol, guys, that whole game was a complete and utter wash. We won, nobody looked good for either team except Brandon Fields and Cameron Wake. On to next week!

to grade the dirty sanchez or Henne on their performance is a waste of time. their both way better than what we saw and we all know it.

Our offense looked bad, but you know who was leading them ...

it wasn't as if Henne threw the ball well and our WRs let everyone down. He looked terrible out there, and I don't even blame him for the fumble! On that last drive when he rolled out and he made a move for the 1st down (and got crushed) if he made a quick flip to Fasano its a 1st down. Even Fasano gave him the look afterwards. Those are the type of plays he can't make, because, well, I think his football smarts is slow. Not low, but slow, he's not a quick thinker, he's not an improvisor. He made the decision to run for it. Doesn't matter there are 6 guys coming at him before he even gets to the LOS, he's tucking and running.

The only progression I see is that he will eat the ball when needed.

Granted, the Game plan was sort of.......Protecting him.

it was a rollout play though. You can't improvise on those. Either the routes are open when you finish the rollout or they aren't. They don't just magically open up after being covered because its obvious which side of the field the QB is going to throw to.

I hate to be one of the many who cry out "playcalling" but that was bad call for that situation, and Henne actually made the best play he could. Stayed in bounds and forced them to at least use a TO.

agreed that one of his main flaws is he is a very "deliberate" QB. He has almost zero improvisational skills.

Still cant believe this thread is about anything other than henne anticipating receivers out of their breaks. you guys have zero comprehension skills :tongue2:

Unless a miracle happens and we win out/score 30+ points a game this year Henne is done. Done as in D O N E. Sparano sent that message already when he benched him in favor of Pennington. If we play ball in '11, Henne will be holding the clipboard. Henne is a reasonable backup as evidence by his play. Sparano and company will make some shake up moves in the off season because their jobs will depend on it. Look for a big name veteran, and or blockbuster trade. I don't see Ronnie and Ricky getting another year together, so the trade in my opinion would involve one of them.

Henne gets a slight reprieve in my eyes in that the Dolphins #3 and 4 receivers (Moore and Wallace) just don't seem to be ready to contribute in any consistent way, and to beat the Jets defense you really need to attack their weaknesses with multiple options, and we just don't have them.

Having said that though, he was pretty bad today.

Did Henne play well today? No. But he's done a better job at throwing it away and eating the football, and even running when he's had to. Does he have a LOT to improve upon? You betcha. Should we look to upgrade at the QB position? Yes.

But I think the ENTIRE offense, sans Jake Long and Davone Bess, needs to be upgraded upon. Maybe you can add Brandon Marshall in there, but he's had some drops this year. IMO it starts with the Sparano philosophy of playing not to lose and take the FG. It only works when your opponent is bad or, as in today's case, plays even worse than you do. Dan Henning is a dinosaur. But let's look at some other things:

    - Our play action sucks, and it's called at piss-poor times.
    - The interior of the offensive line is garbage. None of the three between Incognito, Berger, or McQuistan should be starting - blame Sparano for that.
    - We have only 1 legitimate option to attack the middle of the field, which we rarely do anyway, with Anthony Fasano.
    - Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both not what they once were; an upgrade here is a must.
    - You can definitely upgrade from Brian Hartline, Roberto Wallace, and Marlon Moore.
    - Patrick Cobbs is not a legitimate 3rd down back, nor is Lex Hilliard who is also not a good FB as some have suggested.
    - We run max protections when teams send 3 pass rushers.
    - We have pass plays that only send 1 or 2 receivers downfield on MULTIPLE occasions.

A lot of the problems in the passing game are Chad Henne's problems, and he's certainly not beyond reproach, BUT it's more than just Chad Henne. It's the entire offense as a whole unit sans Jake Long and Davone Bess; maybe Marshall. Dan Henning has to go. I don't care if we finish 10-6 and somehow luck our way into the playoffs, he's got to be gone after this year whether Henne is the QB or not next season. The offensive line is a mess; heck, I'd argue at times our run-blocking is worse than the 2008 line which included Andy Alleman and Ike Ndukwe. That's sad. But, it starts with Tony Sparano and his philosophy, and his inability to intervene and force Dan Henning to adapt or take over himself. An upgrade at head coach is certainly not beyond reproach this offseason as well in my opinion, regardless if Chad Henne is under center next year or not.

Too much conservatism; too many times coming out flat at home (especially in big games); and so on and so forth. He's gone through a defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator in under 3 years. At this rate, Henning's going to be gone - that's 3 coordinators in 3 years, or at a pace of 1 per season. At some point the buck has to stop at Sparano...I think it could be sooner rather than later.

Great, great post. Agree that the main problemm we have to face is upgrading our personel. I think our offensive line is putrid this year and the biggest problem we have heading into 2011. Henne may be a bigger problem but its not unreasonable to expect him to improve with another offseason. Thje same can't be said for the oline. They absolutely have to get two studs on the oline next year. Also agree about getting a new young rb.ronnie might regain some burst next year but you can't risk it.

Qustion though. You see how bad our oline is and grasp that our qb is still a liability. Why do you think its henning's fault. I mean if you don't have the personel to pass or run what off coor is going to be able to do anything with that combo

Even then, as a GM you can't just put all of your eggs in that basket. Look at Carolina - you don't want to get Matt Moore'd. You have to bring another QB into the mix no matter what.

I'll grant you that Henning doesn't have much to work with, but he also handcuffs himself. As padre pointed out the game thread, Marshall was used in the slot today and had some early success, much like he did in the Green Bay game. Where has that been all season? I think that Hartline's absence is the only reason that Marshall got reps there today. His playcalling has been questionable - maybe not as much today given our field position and injuries on the OL, but I think they showed a stat that today we got just or 11th "...and goal to go situation". He doesn't try and stretch the field vertically, and we've had trouble not only getting into the endzone, but into the redzone. He uses a lot of max protects when he doesn't need to; calls play actions (which we aren't good at anyways) at a ridiculous rate, often times on 3rd and long when it fools NO ONE; doesn't utilize the middle of the field. The Titans game is the only game I recall us using the middle of the field. His gameplan for Thigpen against the Bears was hideous...he tends to outhink himself, and we just can't put a complete game together (Oakland was as close as it's been since the finale in week 17 of 2008.

But, like you said and I alluded to in my previous post - it's more philosophy and personnel especially that's killing this offense.

Five star post here. It leads to the question as to whether or not the personnel and coaching issues stunted Henne's growth because hell, we've seen great games and piss poor showings. It's a conversation I won't get into because I'll get banned if I do but your post sums up my thoughts at this point.

I don't know if he is regressing or progressing but I do not think he is the future of this franchise.

That said, I want no other Qb starting for the rest of the season. We have to let it play out and see, and he is clearly the best on the team.

I start to believe that Henne is probably the worst starter QB that we ever had, I'm not kidding, he was putrid today. I'm trying very hard to understand and justify him, but I can't find nothing positive...
