Hey guys, I'm working on writing an article about the top 25 Fins of all-time. Who are some names you would be absolutely outraged to not see on the list?
Chad Henne.... lol AJ Duhe Czonka Duper Clayton Jason Taylor Doug Betters Larry Little R Webb K Sims Ricky Williams (think what you want of him he will be the Fins all time leading rusher by the end of next season) Jake Scott Dick Anderson Pat Surtain Sam Madison Kuechenburg Langer Griese to name a few...
Henne is in my top 5 for sure. He turned this organization around and gave us our first stable quarterback since Marino. Ha but thanks for the help. I miss the days of that Surtain and Madison secondary.
Jake Scott, Richmond Webb, Dwight Stephenson, Zach Thomas, and Dick Anderson all need to be on any sort of “top Dolphins” list. Also, Don Shula should be #1 on the list. No, he wasn’t a player, but he’s still the historic face of the franchise. Conversely, Jason Taylor should NOT be on this list. If you decide to have a dishonorable mentions category, then Thurman Thomas, Nick Saban, Bill Parcells, Olindo Mare, and Ted Ginn, Jr. all deserve consideration.
I think Jake Long is already in the top 25 honestly, even if you couldn't put him higher than 25th due to age/experience.
Why no Jason? I mean I know the end result wasn't fun (which I blame, if not naively, on the organization) but he gave us some quality years.
Jason Taylor the man diverged from Jason Taylor the reputation after Wayne Huizenga failed to hire Jim Bates to succeed Dave Wannstedt full-time. He became a diva player interested more in himself than the team, but was smart enough to be subtle about it. It “helped" that Saban’s defense featured him and allowed him to become the 2006 DPOY. I actually thought we should have sold high and traded Taylor after the 2006 season. And in retrospect, after the way Cameron was undermined in the locker room and the way Taylor has done nothing for the franchise since, that would have been the best move.
This should get you started. I even divided 'em by era. Don Shula Joe Robbie 1972 - Bob Griese - Jim Langer - Bob Kuchenberg - Larry Little - Larry Csonka - Jim Kiick - Paul Warfield - Mercury Morris - Jake Scott - Bill Stanfill - Dick Anderson Killer B's - Bob Baumhower - Kim Bokamper - Doug Betters - Bob Brudzinski - Lyle Blackwood - Glenn Blackwood Legendary Linebackers - Nick Buoniconti - A.J. Duhe - John Offerdahl - Zach Thomas Marino Era - Dan Marino - Richmond Webb - Dwight Stephenson - Mark Clayton - Mark Duper Modern Era - Sam Madison - Patrick Surtain - Jason Taylor - Ricky Williams - Jake Long
Wow vengeful, big thanks, and great list. It'll be tough to narrow that list to 25, but Long may end up on the outs simply because of his experience.
Shula, Robbie, Marino, Williams, Taylor, Thomas, Fernandez, Greise, Morrall, Czonka, Morris, Kick, Buoniconni, warfield, Scott, Webb, Stephenson, Clayton, Duper, Madision, Surtain, Scott Mitchell.
I thought I had smoked myself ******ed when I saw the name Scott Mitchell for one of the 25 best Dolphin players
jake longs on his way to be top 5 in my opinion but honestly i wouldnt put him in the top 25 after 3 seasons, give it 5-6 years and he should be in there.
I needed 2 extra spots... 1 shula 2 csonka 3 griese 4 langer 5 little 6 kuechenburg 7 warfield 8 fernandez 9 scott 10 anderson 11 stanfill 12 buoniconni 13 betters 14 baumhower 15 matheson 16 duhe 17 stephenson 18 marino 19 duper 20 clayton 21 webb 22 cox 23 offerdaul 24 z thomas 25 taylor 26 r williams 27 long
Marino is the best player in the history of the franchise, without doubt. Putting him at #18 on any list other than "Best players in the history of the sport" is an insult. Putting Dwight Stephenson at #17 and Jim Langer at #4 is hilarious. Dwight Stephenson is WIDELY considered as the best center to have ever played the sport. Bryan Cox was a decent player but he could not hold Zach or Offerdahl's jock strap. Clayton was better than Duper.
Griese is higher on my list than Marino but 18? Even I don't hate on him that much. BUT that list had a lot of the names I would consider....
I'm not even sure Griese would make my top 25 honestly. No chance in hell I'd put him above Marino at the very least.
I agree with everything except the without a doubt part. I don't think Marino was the best player in the history of the Miami Dolphins. I think it's, without a doubt, debatable. Even if I'm alone in thinking it, it's damned close between Greise, Marino, Zonk, Warfield, Scot, Anderson....
Yep! Why some people do not comprehend is beyond me. I lived thru both Qb's playing here and loved ol number 12. He was damned good and one of the smartest Qb's to ever play.
Re-read it. I said the greatest team in the history of the NFL. I'm talking about 4 straight seasons.
All along I thought it was that 53 defense and an unstoppable running game Earl did play well in Griese's absence
Yes, the defense and running game were the real "leaders." I just meant they won more without Griese in 72 than with him.
I forgot about Dwight Stephenson... Definitely in the top 25. Zach Thomas... ahh... I can not stand JT BUT the fact of the matter is that the guy did record 124 sacks for the team which is more than double anyone else.
Could not stop the passing game either! Greise did not have a cannon for an arm but he was deadly accurate with the deep ball anyway.
Nice list... I Forgot Bill Stanfill, left Paul Warfield of the list because he didn't play long enough for us IMO (same with Jake Long). Loved the Blackwood brothers but I don't think they belong in the top 25 (JMO).
OK, OK. Everybody wants it in numerical order. That's a lot tougher but I'll give it a shot... 1 Shula (HOF my dog's name) 2 Marino (HOF NFL QB) 3 Stephenson (HOF my favorite phin, devastating blocker) 4 Csonka (HOF main cog in Super teams) 5 Langer (HOF 2nd best NFL center, super team running game anchor) 6 Thomas (heart and soul, bleeds Aqua) 7 Webb (body guard kept Marino clean, sorry Bruce Smith) 8 Little (HOF pulling freight train) 9 Warfield (HOF higher on talent but overshawdowed by running game) 10 Taylor (hate to do it, but he has to be high) 11 Kuechenburg (best G C G combo by a mile, 6 Pro Bowls, 3 All Pros) 12 Anderson (No Name D centerfielder) 13 Scott (got to be together with Anderson) 14 Williams (could be phins rushing leader next year) 14 Duhe 15 Offerdaul 16 Buoniconni 17 Baumhower 18 Clayton 19 Betters 20 Matheson 21 Long 22 Duper 23 Morris 24 Stanfill 25 Fernandez (17 tackle Super Bowl domination of Skins) 26 Cox List changed a little, but that's my stab at it.
I'll just list one's I absolutely think should be on - not in a particular order - without looking at any others: 1. Dan Marino 2. Bob Griese 3. Larry Csonka 4. Paul Warfield 5. Jim Langer 6. Larry Little 7. Bob Keuchenberg 8. Nick Buoniconti 9. Jake Scott 10. Dick Anderson 11. Manny Fernandez 12. Nat Moore 13. Mark Clayton 14. Mark Duper 15. Dwight Stephenson (HOF) 16. Richmond Webb 17. Zach Thomas 18. Jason Taylor 19. AJ Duhe 20. John Offerdahl (tied for 3rd most Pro Bowls on all-time roster - 5). None of those above should be left off. Others with strong consideration, imo: 21. Bob Baumhower (3 PB starts) 22. Ricky Williams 23. Sam Madison 24. Garo Yepremian. Was one of the top 4-5 kickers in the NFL in the early 70's when it was a big deal. And, kicked arguably the biggest FG in Dolphins history - beating Chiefs in epic OT game on Christmas day, 1971; longest game in NFL history. 25. Jim Kiick - underrated but solid RB. 26. Merc. Morris 27. Vern Den Herder (great pass rush DE in '53' era).
Offerdahl Betters Morris Cox Baumhower Over Greise and Duper?? Way to be swayed.. lol But it's your list
