Our chances of getting in are not looking good. To catch Baltimore we would need them to lose their last 3 games vs New orleans, @ Cleveland, vs Cincinnatti. Thats not going to happen. To catch the Jets we would need them to lose to Buffalo and either lose @ pittsburgh or @ Chicago. San Diego or KC to lose 1 game. Indy to lose 1 game or jacksonville to lose 2 games. If that all happens we have to win our last 3 games. Balitimore will not lose their last 3 games. Jets would have to lose to Buffalo at home. Dont think thats going to happen. Only we had beaten Cleveland.
Not quite so, we also can catch the Ravens in a 3 way tie scenario with the Chiefs. And for me, as long as we head into Foxboro with a shot at making the playoffs, I am fine with the season.
We need to win out. We need the jets to lose out. We need San Diego to NOT win out. They go 2-1 and we're in. Its just that simple!
Cleveland, Pittsburgh, or the first Jets game. Take your pick. Could be wrong, but aren't there a different set of circumstances if 3 non-divisional teams tie for a wild-card spot? I'm guessing head-to-head and conference records would be included, but I think (maybe it was Padre's thread, can't remember) said that there's a different tie-breaker scenario if 3 teams end up tied. Could be way wrong. Edit - speak of the devil, Padre already answered my question before I finished typing. Kudos Padre, you've got good speed.
The Dolphins may win 9-10 games. Of course the tenth win would have to be against NE. I don't think that Miami would have much of a chance of winning against NE except for the fact the Patriots may have already caputured home field advantage in the playoffs. This would make it very likely that the Patriots would sit most of their starters, including Brady in the last game of the regular season. Unfortunately for the Dolphins. Even if they win their last three games. Their chances of making the playoffs is very slim. Unfortunately what a ten win season with no playoffs would mean is that the Dolphins will be drafting in the 20's in the first round. This late 1st round pick is going to hurt their chances of getting a top tier offensive player. Also with no 2nd round pick. The Dolphins are going to have a lot of trouble upgrading the talent on the team. So with little help in the draft expected. The Dolphins will probably once again next year be fighting to remain mediocre. Miami has major needs on the offense. Starting with the QB position The offensive line needs a major upgrade just to be average. The running back position and the wide receiver position both need an upgrade in speed. With all these needs on offense and little help coming from the draft. The Dolphins are at least two if not three years away from being a legitimate contender in the AFC.
I'll go you one further and say that FIRST and foremost, we need to win our remaining 3 games...with this team, not a given.... The scenarios are there but a lot of things have to happen off the wall for us to get in....but as you said, if we beat the teams we should beat (Lions and Jills) I'd be happy...
That is exactly the way I am looking at this situation, as long as we are in the hunt in week #17 what more could we ask for? Sure we all want to see the Dolphins win the SB, consider though, 3 yrs ago we were terrible, 3 yrs in a row the last game of the season mattering has not happened since 2000 to 2003 and to me that is progress. Especially with an offense that is this unproductive, any way it is sliced, adding Brandon Marshall was NOT the cure we all thought it would be.
If we finish 10-6 tied with Baltimore and KC. Baltimore gets in. Baltimore needs to lose their last three games for us to get their wild card spot. Our best shot is hope Pitt beats the Jets this week. That would gurantee us to be in the playoff hunt till the last week of the season. We would have to beat Buff and Detroit to ensure that. As dolphin fans we should be rooting this week for the 49ers to beat SD, Rams to beat the Chiefs, and Jacksonville to beat Indy.
Well: Ravens lose all 3 Ravens lose to Cinci and Cleveland Ravens lose to NOLA and one of those AFC team, they will win the WC with a 8-4 Conference record as we can only finish 7-5 in the AFC. That is why it is plan B, plan A is of course, Jets lose to the Stealers and Bills, of course if they lose to the Bears as well..we win outright. Hmm, we need SD to either win the AFCW outright, or lose one more game in that scenario, as then we need no other team to finish 10-6 and to not win their division, as that Browns loss is just killing our chances.
The Dolphins should easily go 10-6, especially since New England won't need to play Week 17. If the Pats end up losing before then, however, then Miami has no shot in Week 17. Either way, you're going to need the Bills to win in the Meadowlands in Week 17...I got a better chance of seeing jesus christ then that happening.
Win out. Put the pressure on. The Jets game @ Chicago is essentially irrelevant to our playoff push, am I correct?
HEY!!! You knock that off Sir, I have been nice to Bills fans all yr, now it is time for you guys to repay the favor and beat the Jets in the meadowlands to vault us into the playoffs! It is the least I can ask for..right? It's not like I want bills fans to send me a gallon of anchor bar wing sauce or something..
ALL HANDS ON DECK. HOIST THE COLORS AND FIRE THE ****ING CANNONS. The playoff push began Sunday with a always great victory @ Jests. And the push could end oh so quickly, so why not enjoy the ride?
More or less, the season looks like it is coming down to the Bills vs Jets on the last day of the season. Or something like that..
if jets lose to pitt that game means nothing. if they lose to pitt we need chicago to beat them. bottom line we need bills to beat the jets
Well first we have to take care of Buffalo and Detroit at home which is a tall order. We suck in our own stadium. Plus we have scored 20 points in two games. This talk all reminds me of the week leading up to the Browns game and how we would win out and it didn't happen. People crowned us winners before we played the game. It kills me when fans start scoreboard watching and throwing together scenarios without considering that we have to win every game. Take care of your own business and hope to get in is what I wish for. If you don't set expectations too high with the Dolphins you won't be crushed when it crashes down.
Circling Wagons, I wouldn't be suprised if the Bills beat the Jets in the Meadowlands. Sanchez continues his poor cold weather play, they are miserable on offense right now, lost Woody, Greene is banged up, possibly out, LT is showing his regression as the season gets long for him, their dealing without a strength and conditioning coach, rex has to be sweating the league doesn't investigate trip gate further and the bills players are loose and playing for fun right now. And we all know Fitzpatrick and his wideouts can light up a secondary in no time and Revis has actually been the worse of the two starting Jets corners this year. I would probably play Cromartie on Steve Johnson and hope Revis somewhat contains Evans. Plus it won't take a lot of points to beat the Jets right now. I would actually favor the Bills at this point. Just my opinion though. We will be in tough against the Bills and Pats though. Two tough games comming up. I agree with Padre, if we head into Foxboro with a chance I'll be happy. Even if we win out and still miss the playoffs i'll be pretty happy. That would show lots of character in our players and coaches.
Good post. I just don't see how the Jets lose if they stick to the ground game. Buffalo's rushing D is the worst I've witnessed in my lifetime.
If the Jets lose to the Steelers, then it doesn't matter what they do in the Bears game. Win or lose we still need the Bills to beat them. Obviously though, we need to take care of business at home. Something we failed to do against the Browns and all season long to be honest.
We need Jacksonville to beat Indy this weekend, and the Jets to lose. That's all I know for sure. If that happens our % goes up a lot IMO. Jax can lose this weekend, but they also must lose to the Texans week 17 if that happens. If they lose this weekend, but win out the last two games they'll have our spot.
Its slim but there's still a chance. We need to figure out how to win at home though. Sent from my Samsung Moment via Tapatalk
I thought everyone here two weeks ago said the playoffs started for us against the Browns. Now they start again. Is it next year already? I don't think we make it even if we win out because of who we lost to early in the season.
Maybe you guys haven't seen the Bills play this year, but if we swapped our entire offense for theirs we'd probably be super bowl contenders. The bills have hung tough with some really good teams, and I think with NY having an identity crises they will lose the last three games of the season. The Bills will beat the Jets...the real questions is, will they beat us too?
But nobody expected the Jets to collapse. If that happens, then 10-6 is a definite playoff possibility.
If this scenario happens this weekend Jacksonville beats Indy Pitt beats Jets San Fran beats San Diego or St.louis beats KC ( only 1 of these teams has to lose.) Dolphins would have to win the next 2 weeks against Buffalo and Detroit. On the final week of the season Dolphins beat New Engalnd and Buffalo beats the Jets were in the playoffs.
Losing the Browns game took away any "realistic" hopes for the playoffs. Now, with some major help from the proverbial football gods we might still sneak into the playoffs, so at least in that sense the season is not over yet. It won't be easy, even (especially?) at home versus the Bills. They can score points and I'm not sure our offense can match. The Lions? Great DL, and with the mix-and-match OL we have? Tough game. If the Pats decide to lay down for us (Bellicheat is the type to play to win just to mess over a divisional rival) that would be the only easy game we have left.
Kansas City OR San Diego must go 2-1. If both win out we are out. If either lose one and the first two items in your post happen, we are in. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=custom&14=44441144&15=40105514&16=05045154
