Gets good around the 4:00 mark. Really good at the 4:55 mark.

I am perfectly fine with Al Golden. If they hired Jerry Kill, I would have been fine with it too, regardless of where he was on the list. At least Al Golden preaches fundamentals and practices them. This team has had issues with that the last few years.

    Exactly.

Improvement in fundamental execution will do wonders for the team right off the bat.

Here's the thing about fundamentals: they can overcome a lack of talent in some cases. In South Florida, the issue is NOT a lack of talent, it is a lack of development of the talent. Look at the job Al Golden did at Temple. he took guys like Jaiqwuan Jarrett, Alex Joseph, the defensive tackle who came out last year that escapes my mind, and Dominic Harris, the other safety who was on the roster last year at Temple. He took guys like them and made them successful contributors. He preached fundamentals and development of talent and he made them play well. Those guys are not in the NFL or they may not yet but they were successful college players because he developed them. Jaiqwuan Jarrett is a good FS prospect in the 2011 draft. I've watched him numerous times and really like him. He's developed him well.

It wasn't him. He has talent. This other guy, Andre Neblett, wasn't a great talent and was small but had some quickness and they used him just right. He's in Carolina now.

PBP: Golden: I’m the luckiest coach in America today

Losing a bit of respect for Warren Sapp after his tweeting. Guy doesn’t understand context. And if he cares so much about UM, why wasn’t he on the sidelines during games like Michael Irvin was?

That link was giving me troubles so I wasn't sure if it had everything.

I wonder what Sapp thinks after Golden said he wanted all the old UM players to come back.

Sapp probably doesn't care. He won't care until after Golden wins, and then he'll hop on board.

That is, unless Irvin gets him off his big ***. Irvin is backing Golden right out the gate.

Very impressed with coach's demeanor and his handling of the media.

    We already improved there.

And why didn't he get his fat a** down to Coral Gables to meet Gerald McCoy when he basically told the UM coaches if Sapp was there, he'd sign?

In his defense, no one told Sapp about that. That’s on Coker, not Sapp.

Do you know that for a fact? I remember when they brought that up to him on NFLN during the draft, he just kind of shrugged it off, and didn't try to defend himself. If that's true then Coker is truly a moron.

Yes, I know it for a fact. I watched, live, the very NFLN segment with Gerald McCoy and Warren Sapp in question. McCoy started off by saying that he told UM recruiters and Larry Coker that if Warren Sapp was there when McCoy arrived for a campus visit, McCoy would sign a commitment right then and there. Sapp was beside himself in total disbelief, and then, IIRC, said something to the effect of “That’s why Larry Coker isn’t there anymore.”

Golden on the Michael Irvin Show: “My personal goal right now is to be the first coach here in 30 years who stays longer than 5 years.” Talks about building a long-term program.

Practices will be intense. Wants assistants who aren’t “cool”, but will push the players to be the best on and off the field.

I feel like I’m spamming the thread, but too bad. First, Mark D’Onofrio is leaving Temple to join UM, most likely as defensive coordinator.

Next, Barry Jackson with his usual relevant information on Miami sports chimes in:

I was really hoping D'Onofrio would come here, the fact that he turned down the HC job is impressive. I can't speak for his skills as a playcaller, but I saw him on the practice field on the Inside Temple videos and the man knows how to get his players motivated.

WEll I will say this, Hocutt made his decision, Al Golden was his guy so they bypassed Trestman, however that also means Hocutt is accountable for his performance, to me, not wild about this hire but understand why it was made.

I like coaches who have career paths that include Titles for college ball, to me it just means they know what it takes to reach a pinnacle, until a guy has been there he doesn't know what it takes to get there.

I do think Golden will do well especially if he is given a larger than Shannon had Recruiting Budget, RS had S Florida down like a vendor, however S Florida is now heavily recruited by every major program, the effort will have to expand and Golden has said he wants to hit up the Northeast..which makes sense.

No team in the Northeast has a natural advantage in recruiting aside from PSU.

Wonder if they go the Norm Parker route since he has the athletes now?

Love bringing D'Onofrio to UM! Preach fundamentals.

I hear up to 4 assistants coming with Golden.

Hocutt would have been responsible if Trestman bombed, too. That’s the entire point: the two trustees who wanted Trestman wouldn’t have suffered at all if he failed, while Hocutt still would have been on the hook even if he just followed their advice and wasn’t personally sold.

Confirmed: three assistant coaches coming from Temple to UM. Mark D’Onofrio is the new DC. Jethro Franklin is the new DL coach. Paul Williams is the new DB coach. Current coaches Petri, McGriff, and Lovett will be fired after the bowl game.

    Interesting stats in the article:

17th in the nation in total defense. At Temple. TEMPLE.

I hope they plan to clean house on offense too. IMO, the defensive coaches did a better job than the offensive ones.

I wouldn’t expect to know specifically which coaches will stay until after the bowl game.
