I was wondering is this guy a FA after this year? if so do you guys see yourselves as the front runners in resigning him or do you see him leaving for another squad? Also do you guys want him back?
He is about to be a free agent, but I would be shocked if we let him walk. We definitely want him back and it doesn't sound like his asking price is too ridiculous.
I think with the way Soliai's played, you've got to pay the man and make sure that some of the bonuses are based on him keeping his weight down. He looks a lot better this year, and it's showed in his play. Personally, I'd like to keep him and Tony McDaniel, but if we have to let someone walk, by all means McDaniel would be the one to go if it were up to me.
He is now. Randy Starks was supposed to be going into the season. When Jared Odrick broke his leg/foot in week 1, Starks moved back to DE and Soliai has taken over ever since.
NT and QB are among those positions that generally take a few years to develop. Soliai is an example of a guy that many were ready to dump and call a bust. The calls to draft Dan Williams were very fervent before the draft. He's a player that the F.O. was patient with and let develop.
It's not a given that Soliai will be a true free agent or a restricted free agent. It's pretty much up in the air with no CBA. Jason Cole notes these potential scenarios for Yahoo: The first three are the most likely potential scenarios. If the fourth happens, I don't think we have a real idea whether the system would have similar rules. No doubt this off-season has so many question-marks, no one really knows what will happen. I suspect the lock out will happen - unless the league feels they are getting close to a deal - in which case there will be no free agent negotiations.
