Hmm, McNabb is playing with shady hammies, however to be benched for Rex "Turnover Machine" Grossman is surprising.
The whole Shannahan mystique is quickly crumbling. McNabb is at the point in his carreer where he neds real playmakers around him to be effective. He's not a guy who can carry the likes of Todd Pinkston anymore. I think the guy has something left and I would not hate us picking him up as the presence of Marshall could help him quite a bit.
WCO type, if you look at his numbers he is not much better than Henne. Suspect the Cardinals will make him a wealthy man this offseason, he has a home in AZ and runs a Qb camp in the offseason out in AZ.
And just to stir things up a bit in here, this propels John Beck (Yes, THAT John Beck) to #2 on the Deadskins depth chart. Wouldn't count out seeing him before the season is over.
It would not surprise me if Mike Shanahan walked into Snyder's office and resigned at the end of the season. Then he could go back to Denver where he has a 25,000 square foot house. I am sure Bowlen would take him back to coach the Broncos.
Disagree Alen, I've caught some Redskins games as I really did believe McNabb would have shined this yr in DC, but McNabb's passes just lack zip, he is throwing the way Carson Palmer has been and his accuracy on rollouts in the games I've watched has been rather poor compared to what he used to do in Philly.
Rex Grossman only has a chance to return in DC, that is what this is all about, tryouts at Qb for 2011. Which means McNabb won't be back in 2011, and Grossman will either move into 2011 as the Starter, or the #2 guy behind whomever they may draft at Qb.
Grossman is a FA after this year. If they think he could possibly be their answer, they are in trouble.
I remember clearly the whining and gnashing of teeth over how stupid Andy Reid and the Eagles front office were to send McNabb to a divisional rival. Seems to me that the Eagles just torpedoed the Redskins organization for another 5 years. Well done, Coach.
Well, from the Redskins pov that is why he was named the Starter to see whether or not he is or is not the "Answer" Grossman will recognize this for what it is..probably his best shot at becoming a Starting Qb in the NFL one more time. From that angle, this is a win win for the Redskins, if he flops, let him walk, if he succeeds he will not be a hugely expensive signing, either way though, it is clear McNabb is done in DC.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/17/donovan-mcnabb-is-now-a-third-string-quarterback/ John Beck Era? lol.
I wouldn’t say Shanahan is clueless, but he holds irrational grudges (reference Haynesworth) and his inability to evaluate talent overshadows whatever ability to coach he might possess. The end result is a schizophrenic organization and locker room.
They have to know one way or another, they have already decided about McNabb so why bother to play him any longer?
What? Cutler, Marshall, Hillis? He inherited Fat Albert and to his credit would not put up with him, he plucked Armstrong off of the scrap pile and he has played well.
I don't think Washington views Grossman as the answer Alen. I think, as Padre said, they are simply having a delayed preseason for Grossman and Beck to see if it makes sense for them for depth purposes really. I assume they are drafting a QB early in the draft.
I would think they already know what they have in Grossman, no? Shanahan's son said he knows him from the Houston days and Grossman has started games before, in which he wasn't very good.
What about them? Cutler is Brett Favre, Jr. (not a good thing), Hillis was a 7th round pick who did nothing until leaving Denver. Of those three, only Marshall is a true triumph of Shanahan’s drafting. Speaking of drafting, let’s look at some picks Shanahan made in rounds 1-3 over the last few years of his time in Denver: Jarvis Moss: gone. Tim Crowder: gone. Karl Paymah: gone. Tatum Bell: gone. Darius Watts: gone. Jeremy LeSueur: gone. Ashley Lelie: gone. Terry Pierce: gone. And I’m not even including free agent signings, none of which Shanahan really hit on. Shanahan the General Manager sucks.
Moss=Raiders Crowder=Tampa Paymah=injured Texans They may not have fit in Denver, but they are still in the NFL. Ryan Clady annual pro bowler Schefler in Detroit as well. Also landed Dumervil, but passed on Cam Wake in 08 as a FA. I am not a Shanny fan as I think he does not make great Coaching Staff decisions, however he did a pretty good job as a GM.
They did not really give him an extension, they paid him 3.5 million upfront with a Team option in 2011, Shanny has made it clear McNabb won't see the rest of the 78 million dollar deal he supposedly received.
In other words, the Broncos had to release drafted players who failed to succeed on their team. By your measure of success, having jettisoned draft players who are still in the NFL, Ted Ginn should go down as a credit to Mueller and Cameron.
No, McAdolescent dumped them, in the case of Hillis because he was hitting on his wifey. Shanny in the last 4 drafts in Denver: Franchise type Qb Franchise type Rb Franchise DE Franchise LT Franchise Wr Well, not sure how you measure success in the draft Des, I tend to think it looks like what Shanny accomplished and McAdolescent tore down in 2 offseasons with Tim Tebow to show for it. Poor Denver fans..
Well, from a dolphins point of view, landing a 4th rd pick for Lorenzo Booker was a good deal for us, Reid played this one extra sharp.
Padre, sometimes I think you would blame Josh McDaniels for the Metrodome’s roof collapsing. Where? Who? Cutler is not a franchise QB, Shanahan preferred Torain and Bell to Hillis, the only true franchise-type defender that Shanahan acquired is Champ Bailey, and while Clady and Marshall are great players, they in no way cancel out the multitude of missed draft picks and free agents under Shanahan’s watch. It’s not McDaniels’ fault that Shanahan sucks at talent evaluation.
Don't be ridiculous..I blame him for the 08 market crash though. Cutler does have a mediocre Bears offense 1 win away from winning the NFCN. -Elvis Dumervil -Ryan Clady -Peyton Hillis 'nuff said.
I’m curious as to who exactly you blame for Shanahan’s lack of winning in Denver post-Elway, because from the sound of it you think that team was absolutely loaded with talent.
It was loaded with Talent, absolutely and the Talent had time to gel together and was never more than an 8-8 team, a part of it was a series of bizarre moves with the Defense, the other half was Shanahan. I like how he plays hardball in DC, imho that Franchise needed and needs it, but as for being a Head Coach I am not a fan of him or his methods, however if he judged Fat Albert was tanking, get him off of the team (that Friday he was in a Ft Lauderdale Bar BTW) if McNabb was playing poorly and he was, and the judgment was made he was not the guy, get him out of the way and do not be shy about it. Totally agree with those moves as to often in DC imho the HC has their hands tied by Snyder, Shanny made football decisions sans Snyder..and it had to happen. Besides, we play the NFCE in 2011...I would not mind if they had a rookie at Qb..
Well at least he adds another option to the QB group which is promising this year in Palmer, Orton, McNabb, and Smith. That's better than most years. Orton as we've spoken about is the guy to look at.
