Many want Henning gone more than a mother-in-law who comes for a weekend visit, and is still there 6 months later. Some of the posted problems are justified. Some are not.

Regardless, for this thread you not only have to complain about Henning but, have to offer a viable, and better alternative. That's always the tuff part.

So, forget about complaining, just give me his replacement. As far as I know the only available options are David Lee and maybe Josh McDaniel.

    This should be some fun.

Well, if the Chargers go back to playing how they were a few weeks ago, and either miss the playoffs or once again go one-and-done I think Norv Turner is gone. I would like to see him here as our OC.

I think it's a discussion better saved for the offseason when we have the full list of options. Or when we know if the organization will even get rid of Henning.

There actually should be plenty of options available. In addition to McDaniels and Lee there are several OCs or coaches on the hot seat. Some of the names I've heard that I believe could potentially be available (not all will, but some); Jason Garrett, Scott Linehan, Al Saunders, Gary Kubiak, Norv Turner and Brian Schottenheimer. I like Kubiak, but I also feel that Garrett and Turner (who could be available but I doubt it) and Saunders are logical fits. There are other names floating around as well, but I'm fighting a cold and my recollection is spotty.

Alot of the suggestions seem to be in the professional ranks. Do any of you think that some of the college level coaches/coordinators could jump to the pro ranks and be sucessful. I follow the game but not the coaches at that level, so I am not so sure who would be a good fit.

Ken Whisenhunt. Put McDaniels, Marshall, and Nolan around a campfire with a peace pipe. Jason Garrett if he shakes free. Hell, maybe even Schottenheimer. There are much more viable options this year than at QB. Was this to show someone up or something?

Gary Kubiak if he is fired (50/50 at this point) and not hired as a head coach would be the best fit. A good playcaller, can develop an offense, and can develop and call to the strength of a QB.

However there are reports that with the labor uncertainty, Bob McNair (texans owner) is undecided over whether or not to axe him. And if he is, there are reports he may head to Denver.

Frankly though, I'd rather try just about anyone than Henning. The idea of Pennington as an OC is kinda silly, but yeah I would go for it. Henning just needs to go.

I say keep Henning and trade Henne for Brady. I would love to see how effective Bellichick would be in New England with Henne as his QB. Also with Brady at QB for the Dolphins. I am sure that there would be far less complaints regarding Henning. Obviously I know this trade would never take place. I am merely pointing out that the reason Henning appears to be such a terrible OC is because of the QB he has running the plays. It is certainly funny that when Pennington was taking the Dolphins to the playoffs in Henning's first year as the Dolphins OC. No one was complaining about his play calling. Put Brady, Manning, Brees, or one of the other top tier QB's on the Dolphins. All of a sudden. The offensive coordinator would be a genius. The problem with the offense is the offensive line, QB, and running backs. Not the OC.
All that being stated. I would love to see Kubiak as the OC next year since I have no doubt that Sparano will fire Henning and use him as the scapegoat for the terrible play of offense.

You really think we could get a top tier QB? No coach in their right mind would give up someone like Brady or Manning.

If you read my entire post. You will see that I stated, this trade would NEVER happen. I was merely pointing out that the problem with the offense has a great deal more to do with the players on the offense then it does with the coach calling the plays. Take Manning, Brady, Brees, or any of the other top tier QBs off their teams and put Henne at QB. The offensive coordinators of those teams would be under the same heat Henning is now with Henne as the Dolphins QB. It is not the play calling that is the problem. It the execution
of the offensive plays which is the problem.

Haven't we been through this before?
Like deja vu all over again. Let's throw Cam and JJ in there too while we are at it.

I would like Gruden although it wouldn't happen.

Hey, JW...maybe you forgot how 2008 went. Let me refresh:

    1. Incredibly easy schedule, playing trash teams, thanks to the 1-15 season
    2. Offense was so bad, they implemented the Wildcat, which was a huge success, due to the league being incredibly unprepared for it
    3. We make the playoffs, only to have Pennington throw four picks against one of the few good teams we faced

So, tell me again why Henning was so great? You really can't use 2008 as any sort of basis for defending Dan Henning. As to the thread, I don't really know who we should go with...not do I care, as long as it's not Henning or Schottenheimer.

Peyton Manning is currently struggling mightily b/c he's stuck in a play action offense with no running game. Some situations make success incredibly unlikely for any QB.

I say... I wanna meet your pot dealer.

Any of the previous mentions would be fine, not a chance IMHO for Brian Scottenheimer, but I'd take his dad. I would prefer out of all the names mentioned to see Scott Linehan back. Jason Garrett isn't going anywhere
    .
College coaches...I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

But if Rich Rodriguez gets whacked, very likely, maybe.
Get on the phone to June Jones...hellyes !!!!

But my number one happy joy joy would be Coach Lee, just cuz he gave us the wildcat

No, this thread was only to express my point of view. I fully understand Phans wanting to get rid of a coach or player. I differ with some in wanting to have a better option, and not just saying to get rid of a guy. JMO.

I had the same opinion of Pags last year that many do of Henning now. When Nolan came available, GREAT move.

Yeah, the CBA problems could severely limit our options. Owners are unlikely to make coaching changes before a new deal is reached.

The nature of the beast is that whoever is chosen as the next OC, if he is successful and we suddenly become an elite squad, he'll be hot property next offseason, just as Nolan will be this offseason... For Nolan, it would be a good time him to make a move, given what he's done with a young, young group of players...That's unfortunate for us. However, going in our favor is the labor unrest....it's likely to delay moves that some teams may want to make (SF, Ariz, Detroit, Cleveland, etc). I think our search for an OC will be upended by a search for a new DC...

I did a rundown on it in Club level

ckparrothead brought up a couple of names I missed that warrant consideration- Al Saunders(Whom is probably my favorite of all the options, another Air Coryell guy who is really well-rounded), Jets OL/AHC Bill Callahan, and Chargers QB coach John Ramsdell.

If I'm Nolan I'm waiting a year, not letting the CBA limit my options, and putting on a show in 2011.
