Today's rumors: Two possible female roles are Julie Madison (which will be a small role) and Detective Sarah Essen (which would be a possible main supporting character). No word on who's in the running but both big names and unknowns are being considered. The source is Batmanonfilm.com which is a GREAT site and I suggest everyone to check it out. EDIT: This rumor is said to be false.
See my post above. Those two characters are not reportedly in the script of the movie. Plus I can't really see how Clayface would be a villain either. But then again who really knows until actual news is released.
I completely agree, as the love story parts of Batman Begins were the weak parts of the movie (Kate Holmes' acting might have had something to do with it). Although the love interest parts of TDK were extremely important to the overall story, so if there is another love interest I'm sure Nolan is going to put it in for a specific reason and not just because Hollywood says there needs to be one.
Today's rumor: Rumor has it that Tom Hardy will play Dr. Hugo Strange in The Dark Knight Rises. Strange is a deranged police psychiatrist who will reportedly be chasing Batman in the movie. The movie's script will be based on the graphic novel Prey. In the book, Dr. Strange hypnotizes a police officer to become a vigilante in an attempt to bring Batman out of hiding. Sounds interesting. Definitely will be interesting to see a that character in the film, if true of course. Just wish Nolan or WB would confirm some of the characters already.
With all the possible enemies of Batman, ending the trilogy with Dr. Strange is kind of a letdown IMO.
I am okay with Dr. Strange as he is at least a character based on reality, to a degree. Remember how TDK ended as well...with Batman running from the cops and becoming the villain in the eyes of the public. Having a storyline where a crooked shrink corrupting an officer to help root him out makes a lot of sense. I also imagine we would see another villain to boot.
I agree. I also expect there to be another villain in the film as well. Strange will probably be a secondary character much like Harvey Dent was in TDK. I do think that if this rumor is true it makes sense as to why Strange would be in the film.
New rumor: Despite Christopher Nolan's earlier statements that the Joker would not be returning for any Batman sequels he was in charge of, rumors have popped up once again that The Dark Knight Rises will feature a cameo from the quintessential Batvillain. Showbiz Spy reports that Nolan is considering using unseen footage of Heath Ledger's as well as CGI to provide the character with a cameo in the new film. "Chris wants some continuity between movies and for the franchise to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker," says a movie insider. "It would only be a fleeting moment in the movie and would only be included with the full consent of Heath's family." I think this one is 100% false/fake. It just goes against everything Nolan has said in previous interviews.
Most likely fake. I agree. However IF it was true, it would be the only way I could see it working. A slong as it wasn't another actor...and the footage made sense within the context of the next film, and not crowbarred in. But again, most likely fake.
Yeah, plus I'm not even sure exactly what 'unseen' footage there would be. From what I remember the only scene The Joker was in that wasn't used was him in car driving away from Bruce Wayne's party for Harvey Dent and it was maybe just a line or two (at least that's what I remember from the script). Unless of course they're talking about outtakes etc.
Eh maybe. I know he's long been a fanboy's dream of playing that part. But I'd say usually it's the actor that's not the obvious choice that ends up being best for the role. I mean Heath was just awesome in that role and everyone ripped on him when he was first cast. +1 well done. People just want traffic to their site, plain and simple.
Eckhart Confirms No Two-Face in The Dark Knight Rises Source: MTV December 3, 2010 Aaron Eckhart confirmed once and for all to MTV that Harvey Dent/Two-Face will not be appearing in The Dark Knight Rises, which he says "is going to blow everybody away." "Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us," Eckhart said. "I said, 'Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I'm in the next 'Batman.' And Chris said, 'Yes?' I said, 'Am I?' He looked at me and he said, 'No.'" He added that he wasn't joking about the beach part and said that they "found ourselves alone on the beach together on a stormy day and he delivered the news to me. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on... Honestly, it was Heath's movie to go on. We had a great movie. I'm so honored to be a part of that movie." Thank God! Finally this puts to the rest the stupid rumors and theories that Dent survived the fall in TDK. He's dead. Nolan's Batman is as realistic as possible. Get over it.
It's been awhile for Batman rumors and here's a big one: Tom Hardy will NOT be playing Hugo Strange. http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html It's from a very good source. No word on who Hardy will play but the announcement should be made fairly soon (early 2011). A lot of the Strange rumors might be coming due to the new Batman video game which Hugo Strange is the main villain.
According to Jeff Jensen at EW.com its officially confirmed that Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy will play Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/01/19/batman-hathaway-catwoman-hardy-bane-dark-knight-rises/ I think this is awesome news. Note in the WB press release there was no mention of Catwoman being in the film only Kyle. However that doesn't mean the Catwoman character won't be in the movie. If I remember correctly, I don't think WB mentioned Two Face when they announced Harvey Dent would be in TDK.
No clue but my best guess is that Bane will be more brains than roided up freak, unless Nolan is planning on using CGI (which he hates using). Bane being able to match Batman in terms of smarts and fighting wise will be interesting.
I was thinking they'd take a mechanical approach. Not a suit of armor like Iron Man, but more of a hydraulic contraption similar to what Batman used in the last movie to rip open that van. For all we know, that might be why that was in there.
It's nice that Catwoman is going back to being a brunette. A Nolanian Catwoman would probably be more vicious than Burton's. I don't know if I can see Hathaway pull that off. Then again, I also had my doubts about Heath Ledger.
This is great news, I think they are both perfect. I think they put more emphasis on "Selina Kyle" instead of "Catwoman" so people know this is the original Catwoman, not like the one with a different name from the 2004 movie. I also expect she'll be a Hero/Villain like Pfeiffer's, with Tom Hardy being the main villain instead of having two complete villains.
There are still rumors that Talia al Ghul will also be in the film, both BatmanOnFilm.com and The Hollywood Reporter have been reporting that they've been hearing that.
Yeah apparently there will be another female role, rumors are her or Vicki Vale. Talia would be good since she would be a new character not in any of the old movies. Also maybe that means Catwoman would be more of a hero than a villain.
I like Hathaway. She is sexy and is a good actor. I'm not familiar with Bane from a comics standpoint. I've only ever known the Batman and Robin movie Bane, which I assume will not resemble Nolan's way much at all. But Nolan has more than earned my trust. So I'm sure it will be an interesting take on the character.
I agree. I'm fairly confident it will be a good movie. But other than what I mentioned I just don't see how they'd pull it off.
It might be a good movie, however chances are it will be disappointing. Mostly because expectations are really high for it. Unless he is willing to push the envelope more and use some CG, I have no idea how he could do Bane justice.
Well, in the comic book version, Bane was raised in prison, having to serve his father's sentence. He learns the world form inside and is pretty much self educated. If you knock out all the crap about needing the venom drug and focus on him just being a lifelong prisoner who escapes and ocmes to Gotham because it reminds him of his upbringing where fear reigns supreme, I think you can get away with him as a character. Not sure if they plan on using the broken back storyline for this movie, but an homage to it would be nice. Bane fighting Batman in the batcave and putting him out of commision, at least for awhile. Not sure where he will go with the Kyle part of the story, but I am sure it will work. Nolan and David Fincher just don't make bad movies. I am convinced of it.
Take away the venom drug you take away a lot of the character. That is like having Mr. Freeze, but just having him as a guy who is trying to get revenge on the company who pulled the plug on his wife.
You don't have to take it away all together. I think having him have to take it through tubes directly connected to his brain every 12 hours seems about as far fetched as you can get. If you modify it to modern times and basically turn Venom in a PED, it could still work. Again, Nolan doesn't really make bad movies so I am sure he will present something that is both plausible and true to Batman lore. He pretty much could pick any villains he wanted to and he chose Bane. There has got to be some reasoning behind that. I wonder if Bane might be the character that finishes off Batman in Nolan's world.
With a title The Dark Knight Rises, I doubt we will see Batman being finished off for good but it will be interesting to see if they do have Bane break his back in the film (although I'm going to say no since it would take a normal person what months to recover, I just don't think the movie would skip ahead that far). But I agree with everything else you said, I think the venom should be a PED instead of tubes inserted into his brain which is too cartoony for Nolan's world. I know fan boys will freak out much like they freaked out about The Joker not being perma-whtie or how Two Face got his scars but I believe Nolan can do a good job of pulling off a realistic Bane. Nolan has stated many times that he views the comic books as source material but not something that should be written in stone and followed word for word.
There's a rumor going around that Robin Williams being considered to play Hugo Strange. While it fits with Nolan liking to cast actors he's worked with before, Robin Williams has been rumored to be in every single Batman film since the 1989 movie came out.
