Unlike the OC he understands they all are to blame Brandon Marshall apologizes to defenders blames everyone on offensive side of the ball, including coaches Brandon Marshall just delivered a statement of mea culpa about the terrible offensive play the Dolphins offense -- ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring coming into today -- delivered in this 17-14 loss to the Bills and, indeed, has delivered all season. The statement at his presser before he took questions: "First before I take any questions, I want to apologize to the defensive guys, especially the players. All year they played their hearts out, they played together, they played like a unit is supposed to play. I'm not sure if we're out of the playoffs but we need a miracle to get in. "I say that to say this: Offensively all year, we didn't get the job done. We didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't get the job done. It's embarrassing. It's just a shame. You have a defense like that, you don't have to be great as an offense. You just have to be OK. And we haven't been that all year. And it's embarrassing. So I apologize to each guy on the other side of the ball. "And myself I'm held accountable, too. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone on offense, it's all of us as a group, coaches, too. We just didn't get the job done today and it's been that way all season." Notice that Marshall does not exclude anyone. Seriously, it is the coaching, the play-calling, the execution, the running game, the passing game, the quarterback, the offensive line, and sometimes the receivers. He got it all. The Dolphins need a total revamp on offense. Period. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...-of-the-ball-including-coa.html#ixzz18bEGT0ng
I'm just glad someone on the offensive side of the ball gets it. He, Long, Bess, Fasano, and Hartline are the only guys I'd like to see on the field regularly next year that are left over from this year's team.
It's hard to win when you don't score. Why doesn't Henning ever call a play where we throw it farther than 20 yards down the field? Why when we are moving the ball on the ground do we throw it on 3rd and 2 and give the ball back to the Bills. Why kick 48 yards against the wind when we had a better chance of just going for first downs? If Henning is back next year, I won't be watching any longer. There is only so much fans can take.
Any new HC can't exactly replace the entire roster: QB- RB- probably Ronnie (decent big back still) FB- not really worth mentioning WR- Marshall, Bess WR- Hartline TE- Fasano LT- Long LG- C- RG- Jerry RT- (Carey?) That's where the offense is. A number of things to figure out on that side of the ball, but you've got two cornerstones in a #1 WR and a #1 LT (most important).
This is pretty right. Swap Ricky with Ronnie though. Ronnie probably won't want to come back anyway since they don't give him the ball. Dolphins need a speedy young guy to be the starting RB, and Ricky can backup. Ronnie is going to want to start, I assume. I bet the Colts or Pats or Saints would love to have Ronnie as a starter.
Get a new OC. Tweak the middle of our OL and get a speedy RB/WR who is a threat to take it the length and we'll be set. I would like to see if we could somehow get a QB like Kolb for some competition. I don't think Thigpen is anything more than a 3rd string QB. In all honesty I wouldn't mind trying to bring in McNabb. I think the team would respond to and play hard for the guy after what he's been through with Washington. I don't think he's the long term solution, but I think he could teach Henne how to be a professional and make plays.
Not a bad idea. I agree about the new OC. They've sucked all year and he needs to take that blame. We need a new interior OL...again. I miss Jake Grove, even with his injuries. I don't know if they're so horrible, but we've got to get back to getting some run blocking and some guys that can get out and pull. I don't want either RB back. I don't want Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown. Ricky is too old and it's time to turn the page. Ronnie Brown, for me, will go down as one of the more overrated players in Miami's recent history. He had so much potential but freak injuries, poor playcalling, whatever excuse there may be, and he never gave us a season where we said "Holy cow! This guy is amazing." The closest he had was when he was with Cameron before getting hurt. I want a new RB, a guy with big play capability. A drafted product and a FA will do fine by me. When I say FA, I mean a Chester Taylor type, or someone like that. I want another QB. I want a QB with the intention that he will be the starter this upcoming year. I don't like Henne. I don't think there is any QB out there that can teach that man how to anticipate, be accurate within zone coverage, and play smart. We have the best guy for that on our team and through 3 years of time with him, he isn't at the level needed. His accuracy on throws down the field is just so bad. I can't take another year of missed opportunity after missed opportunity. If it's Donovan McNabb, bring in a WCO guy. If it's Carson Palmer, bring in a guy that runs an offense he's familiar with. Then draft another young guy and try it again. But, I can't have another year of Chad Henne's inconsistency and him crashing playoff hopes at the end of the season.
By the way, Brandon Marshall is the man. Look what a new contract has turned this guy into. Did he earn it this year? I don't think so, but he's still been the best playmaker on our team. He's allowed Davone Bess to flourish more, as well as Hartline. He was absolutely worth the draft picks. I look forward to him being worth the money next year with a QB that doesn't stink. For all the crap Tony Sparano has received, he's taken guys like Brandon Marshall, Richie Incognito, etc. and have got them to buy into his system. He's absolutely a guy the players respect and enjoy playing for.
Kudo's to Marshall. He gets it. Since the theme seems to be who stays on offense, I'd say Marshall, Hartline and Bess should be locks at reciever. Fasano can stay. Jake Long obviously stays and probably Carey. I'd say that Polite should stay too, the o-line has been his biggest problem this year as well. Anyone else should be in serious fear for their jobs. And that starts with Henning and Henne.
When healthy I don't think he's turnstile. I think he was playing extremely hurt. If an upgrade is available that's fine, outside of that though I still think he's in the top 12 of RTs. Maybe he takes a pay cut. I don't think you force a change just for the sake of it (as Ireland/Sparano always do) because it takes away your ability to make other moves.
He's so right about us just needing to be "OK" on offense because our defense has played so well. it is very embarrassing that we can't even be "OK" on offense. we flat out suck on offense. i hope we draft all offense and pick up a couple of FA offensive players and get a new OC. i'm really gonna hate not having a 2nd round pick, but Marshall was well worth it.
