My experience @ Sun life

Sounds very similar to my post last week when I witnessed Henne`s inept failures for my own eyes at the Meadowlands . I also saw first hand how this guy is just horrible in so many key areas it isnt even funny. But,some people just dont seem to grasp the fact he`s not a quality QB. He has so many flaws in his reads and decisions its pathetic.

 

Glad you went to the game. Albeit a tough loss, it seems you had a really nice time.

Completely agree about Henne. There has been no progression there. When things get difficult and he's seeing zone coverages, he's lost. Unless we have a dominant run game and can see man-to-man coverages or single high, he just doesn't have a chance to be a consistent QB all game.

I don't want or expect the man to be Peyton Manning and anticipate every play, make every throw, or be able to read everything perfectly. However, I expect him to get better. The last two years he has failed--epically--down the homestretch. No pun was intended for home, but he can't win there either.

I think every single post Ive seen with someone seeing Henne in person says the exact same thing. He just doesnt have it. He has a great arm. can be very accurate sometimes, but he just doesnt have it upstairs.

 

Michigan fans saw him blow their biggest game [against Ohio State] 4 years in a row. He's blown big games at the most critical times both years in Miami. Looks like he hasn't learned much.

 

Henne hasn't AND Sparano hasn't. I'm pretty sure I know which one won't be back next year though.

On TV Henne completes 73% of his passes for 270yds with 1 TD and 1 INT.

I guess when you attend the game his numbers are different.

I get really sick of all the people that come here after going to the game acting as if they saw something we didn't see. Unless it's getting autographs, there is nothing you watched that we didn't watch.

 

To me that is a trend. We need to blow up the Offense, but I am not sure that Sparano wants to go away from the FG's that are his comfort.

 

Don't know about that. I'm FAR from a Henne homer but I'm not going to discount what he brings to the table neither. Here is what I see from the original poster that I have seen all year.

Very true but not in the sense of route combinations. He doesn't read the defense well presnap - he doesn't see the blitz. He has no idea where pressure will originate. But all of that isn't the fault of Chad Henne. I do not think he has been asked to do it. He is being asked to do what they are doing.

This is a problem. He waits entirely too long to let the ball fly on every pass. It would be excusable if he was late on most throws. He is late on everything.

Not true. Most of what you were seeing was high/low routes. The "concepts" you saw referenced in the Henne interview? That's what he was discussing. When a team runs 2 safety zones, you CAN run high/low reads and be very successful. It can very well appear to be staring down. It's not. There is a receiver high and there is a receiver low.......and sometimes there is a receiver lower or later. In any event, the QB will never look to the other side of the field. It's work against one safety and one corner on one side of the field. The staring starts on that safety. It moves to one of two receivers based upon the movement of that safety.

He is not being asked to survey the field. That is why you always see accusations around here about the "Henning offense". It's not the Henning Offense. It is a passing concept. Henne proved earlier in the year (see Patriots failed comeback) that he was not ready to read the entire field. It's been seen in practice. So the assignment has been reduced to single side reads. It is what has frustrated so many around this forum. Continually the Dolphins attack a single side which is fine. It's not like all the receivers start on the same side. But all the receivers that will be read are from mid-field to one sideline. It is what he's been asked to do. It's on tape and for the most part, it's covered.

Now this does not excuse Henne. If one were to see the single side attack live (as you did) they would say "Why not backside?" Henne doesn't even look over there. Now whether that's because he can't get there as a result of his perceived time or he can't get there because he is told not to - either way, he can't get there. That's the problem. That's why the defense squats on the primary attack of the route patterns. Their safety will not disregard the high read, therefore the underneath coverage knows BY PATTERN DEPTH that the throw will come to them. That is what is predictable. He's not throwing where the safety is going.

Many of those INT's come in attempted comeback earlier in the season. It's the kind of football fans have wanted to see all year. It's the kind of football that could have sacked this season worse. I think the staff saw what he did when the load was put on him and pulled back the reigns. I think alot of stuff was simply thrown out the playbook window. The drive in the final minute yesterday told me as much. They practice what they think Henne CAN do. Henne can't do five receivers. He can't do it because he can't see the zone blitz. When the QB can't identify the blitz, the offensive line cannot adjust the protection. He has to set the protection on those plays. So if you can't set the protection, you will never be asked to read two sides of the field. Why? Because they can't protect you from the booth against your failure to see the blitz.



Overall you just witnessed a confluence of compounded events. You see a QB that the staff does not trust (for good reason). You have seen an offense that was put together to limit the effect of the QB's mistakes. It's a result of Henne's limitations that we do what we do and it has nothing to do with arm strength or accuracy. It has to do with pre and post snap reads. He's not asked to look at both sides of the field. He's not asked to set the protection.

This team just attempted to survive Chad Henne. The benching was due to his limitations. Chad Pennington would have allowed the offense to do more. That's why they made the move. But the move backfired when Pennington was injured. Now they had nowhere to turn. Thigpen certainly isn't ready. In riding with Henne the rest of the year, a hefty investment was made. But with this guy they can only move forward ONE way. They have to force protections upon HIM so he is charged with recognizing who will come on the rush. Only then can they move forward with a more dynamic passing game. The BIG question now is "are they willing to do that with this guy?" Only time will tell.

.......but it will not be under the tutelage of Dan Henning. Dan Henning doesn't trust the guy. The final minute of Bills/Dolphins told me as much.

 

That is completely false. There are some that watch the BALL during live action. They see nothing different than the TV.

If you watch the secondary, you see a totally different passing game. If you watch the line, you see a totally different running game. Although most people do not have the discipline to do neither.

 

We all watch henne suck the same. I agree.

 

Sadly I just can't drop a couple hundred bucks to go watch that product! Then when you add on enough $10 beers to numb the pain and embarrassment of losing to the Bills and Clowns it just isn't worth it!

 

Thank you. How anyone can claim to witness all phases of a game on TV just as easily as watching it live and in person is quite embarrassing to read. If anyone is still doubtful about this I suggest you attend a game if possible,trust me you`ll scratch your head watching Henne.

 

I agree. Although theres some people who think Henne is more talented on screen than he actually is.

 

Quite obvious you defend Henne to no end lately, and thats fine. You`re entitled to your opinion. You`re a Dolphins fan and you choose to give him the benefit of the doubt. Having said that,I really hope you also see major flaws in his game like the rest of us. If you hope he improves, thats one thing,but to say that he`s not a major problem with this offense is just plain absurd. Keep in mind I`m not bashing you,like I said its your opinion.

That's completely false. You can't see the routes develop. You can't see who is opening up. All you can see is the LOS. That's it. So you can see much more when you're watching the game live. It's not even close.
