Our red zone efficiency is good this year.
The problem is getting IN the redzone. When all you try to do is avoid negative plays, you don't give yourself much opportunity for positive plays. Run-Run-Short Pass FG has been our M.O. since Sparano got here.

I guarantee Ross cares what we think! All those open blue seats are clubseats and those are his bread and butter! I am so sick of Parcells, Morano Nd Irelands screw the media and fans mentality! 2 of the 3 haven't done **** in their careers and the other one is an overhyped myth machine that builds mediocrity everywhere he goes!

None of this is accountability it is just senseless ramble from a idiot HC who doesn't have the intelligence or fortitude to take the play calling away from a delusional old man! Not that it matter because he stink doing that at Dallas anyway!

The sooner this franchise is rid of the trash Tuna Miedoff brought the sooner we get on the road to success!

has more to do with henne and the offensive line. the offense would be more aggressive if you gave it the personnel that you could be more aggressive with

the surest way to be mired in permanent mediocrity is to fire coaches every three years. Successful franchises have a longer time frame

Personnel brought to you by Tuna Miedoff and his little Elf Ireland! Year 3 and our line keeps getting worse all while we have a quote Oline Guru as our HC!

surest way to be mired in permanent mediocrity to horribleness is to care what the fans think.

The Redskins are the perfect example of a team that is lead by a fan.

I don't know whether Sparano will return or not, but I don't find the fact that Ross hasn't spoken to him within the last 18 hours or so all that telling either way.

Disagree! This clown is 1-6 at home at best 2-6 this year.1-9 if you go back to last year! He is the very definition of mediocre and giving him another year serves no purpose. Mean while proven HCs get hired out from under us! Then we get another failed draft and more worthless free agents.

    Little anecdote:

I have a good friend who does some sports writing. His editor in chief is one of the old time geezers, the ones who still smoke chain, have seen it all and look at the internet with much the same disdain as a cook looks towards a cockroach. Anyway, this old-timer has one golden rule, developed over 40 years of covering sports: If a coach says that he is only focused on the next game and that everything else was out of his control, he writes the obituary. He doesn't publish it yet, of course, he simply puts in his drawer (he's the kind of guy who still uses a typewriter, believe it or not). When my friend asked him why he was doing that the first time around, he answered: "In 40 years of covering sports, I can count on one hand the times I didn't have to get it out of the drawer after two weeks at the latest."

Whose fault is that ? The HC makes as many or more of the personnel decisions than does Ireland. Ireland drafts talent and signs them, mostly at the direction of the HC, who is supposed to know what he needs to run his offense. If its otherwise, then we do have a real problem with the HC, more than maybe we even suspect.

    Very, very likely outcome.

I can’t help but wonder if Sparano doesn’t get another year, though. He might finally be realizing that he needs to do his own thing and not worry about what Parcells might have done in a given scenario. With the near-total lack of appealing replacement options… better the devil we know than the devil we don’t.

Yeah winning just 1 home game in the last 10 doesn't help Mr. Ross with season tix sales for next year. I know of at least 4 friends that won't be buying next year, and have seen a number of folks on just this board that have echoed the same sentiment. That will get Ross' attention very quickly.

Mr. Ross doesn't want any home 1pm games until Nov next year ? Well too bad Ross, teams as bad as the Fins, play at 1pm with as small a regional coverage as CBS or FOX can manage. As for us being on next Thanksgiving ? I'm not sure that many in the NFL don't see Buffalo as more of an up and coming team, with an exciting young QB to showcase, and CJ Spiller as an exciting runner. We have nothing to compare to that. To be honest I don't think we even get the Thanksgiving game next year.

That's a very interesting observation. And, probably very telling of this situation too.

Look folks, we're 1-6 at home this year. One and six! Say what you will about Sparano, but to an owner that did not hire him, I'd say his fate with this organization doesn't look very good right about now. Lose next week to a Detroit team that just upset Tampa yesterday, and I can pretty much guarantee you Sparano is gone.

Of course, that could also be why Sparano is making the comments he is about getting his team ready for Detroit next week. :shifty:

Giving him one more year is a waste of time if you're not going to extend him.

You either show faith in the guy or cut him loose. I know you're a LeBatard fan and his maxim holds true, you can't do the job while being afraid to lose it. People with one year left on a deal make rashd ecisions that are only about winning that year, in order to survivie for one more year after that. People like that trade for AJ Feeley.

I haven't watched the whole PC yet, but based on what I read (for whatever that stuff is worth) it doesn't sound like he realized much. I won't throw him under the bus for not throwing Henning under the bus, but it's one thing to defend your guys and another one to give them a glowing endorsement a day after the unit they are in charge of got booed out of the stadium. I understand that Sparano is high character. I respect that. But he also has to realize that giving Henning a rave review after this kind of (repeated) performance, he's coming across as a little looney.

There's actually four options I like: Cowher (if not given GM duties), Gruden (if not given GM duties), Fox and Fisher. Let's not get into an argument about them in this thread, I just wanted to add that I actually see several very good options.

Sparano has given people rave reviews and cut them the next day. He does not use the media to bash his people.

Cowher is not going to take the job with GM duties.

Oh God, its worse than we think. You know what is the worst part, they got the defense just good enough to screw us in ever getting that top drawer QB in the May 2012 draft !

Not really. Not in a year where the head coaching candidates aren’t very good, at least. I mean, Cowher and Gruden? Really? Cowher and Sparano are two sides of the same coin, and Gruden is better in the broadcast booth than on the sideline.

Fine, give him a 1 year extension. Problem solved.

He did the same thing with Pasqualoni last year. Pasqualoni got the boot a week later. Yeah, he comes off as loony, but he knows that, and his rabid public defense of basically everyone is one of the reasons why the coaching staff and the players like him. I can’t bring myself to criticize Sparano for that.

Without getting into that argument, I disagree with your assessment of those names.

The top seeds in each conference have low ranked defenses while the Chargers the leagues best defense are on the outside looking in! By the way we have a long way to go before this defense is championship caliber! 1 cover a ****ing te! 2 we have 30 dropped ints and counting championship defense make plays off opportunity! 3. Our secondary is suspect and surrenders plays in the clutch see Delhoume to Watson and Fitzpatrick to scrubs for an example! Long way to go our front 7 are better but our secondary is weak.

Fisher would be interesting, but I doubt he would jump into a new HCing position the year after leaving the Titans. Not sure what it looks like....but I am assuming it is rare to see a HC leave a team and begin coaching a diff team the following year....they usually take at least a year off. I may be wrong though.

Well, we'll disagree on the quality of potential replacements. I think there are some good choices and I'd be happy with 6 aFC championship games and 1 SB win. You've stated elsewhere that you feel differently. That's fine, but to me Cowher is an excellent choice.

Second, the 1 year extension is pointless. Ross needs to have some vision and foresight here. You cannot let these guys go out and spend resources on a QB who the enxt guy might not like if you're planning on making a change within 2 years.

I know that we will play in Dallas, I am just saying the networks have a say in this, and I think that they will influence the NFL to place Buffalo in that slot and not us, and NFL people will probably comply, because they see what we see. We are a boring, uninviting team, with no offense, and a less than exciting aura around us, less than even Buffalo, which has fought hard this year for Gailey, losing a lot of heartbreaking games, but at least they have had some high scoring and fun games. Ours are mostly a snooze fest, especially when we have the ball. Can't some of you see that ???????

I don’t believe Cowher would reach those heights in Miami. Again, Jimmy Johnson II. Cowher is an annual first round playoff exit waiting to happen—at best.

Any HC worth his salt, would be making those kind of decisions. All of the great ones do, and if Tony is not doing that, and has no imput, then he is not HC material for a consistant, playoff winning team.

It's entirely possible that my memory gives up on me (it's been a year), but while I remember Sparano saying all the proper nice things about Pasqualoni, I sure don't remember a rave review to the extend he has apparently given Henning. In addition, Pasqualoni's defense - while pretty bad - hadn't exactly stunk it up the joint to the extend of Henning's offense, either.

Like I said earlier, I won't throw him under the bus for having his guys' backs. I genuinely respect that. But it's one thing to publicly defend your guy and a totally different one to publicly lick his you know what ...

Why doesn't that surprise me? :D

So, the extent to which Sparano backs a subordinate is determined by how badly they stink. The more they suck, the louder the praise. :shifty:

That just means Sparano didn’t want to get dirt on his boot when the kick lands.

Hah. You can ask me for details in a PM, if you want.
