Did I just read Jake Long had to have his knee iced during tonight's preseason game?

    Add it to the list...:pity:

and put a +1 next to Sparano's questionable game time coaching.

What was questionable? Playing the starters? I am not so sure about that. That was the Cowboys 2nd string creating the pass rush.

If they can do that, what do you think the Vikings are going to do to Henne on September 19. If this game proved anything it proved Sparano to be right . Heck, can we schedule a scrimmage versus the Hurricanes for Sunday?

I'm a little worried since the Cowboys were playing their backups against our starters in the 1st quarter and some of the 2nd and they didn't look great.

However, I'll wait for the Buffalo game for my real early opinion. I'm nervous about that game, but excited and confident they will play well right now.

I'm worried that the team looks totally out of sync, that as we are getting anything going someone invariably screws the pooch, and that none of the coaching staff seems to have a solution.

I'm worried that the vaunted Mike Nolan doesn't seem to have a clue about how to fix a horrible secondary.

I'm worried that the offensive line is patchwork after spending all that money.

This is one of these times when I hope I'm proved wrong.

Well if that game against Cowboys bench players proved anything, it's that the Dolphins will continue to be in close heart-attack type games. Unless they turn it on against Buffalo. I've lowered my prediction to a 7 or 10 point victory in that game.

I still can't believe a 3rd-string QB looked like a pro bowler against our secondary. Wait...I can believe it.

Some more reasons why we aren't the lock some of you think we are against Buffalo -

    - Buffalo traditionally plays well in their home opener, especially when they open at home.

    - Besides preseason, they will have an offense that we will have very little film on.

    - David Martin could be giving them valuable information on our offense.

A lot of gamblers are dumping big coin on Buffalo for this game for these very reasons. I hope they are wrong. I really really hope they are wrong. But it worries me.

Leaving aside Long's issue; I'm a bit concerned about the OL. I think the interior 3 may not be better. Cheaper, yes. Better than a healthy Grove/Smiley ? Don't think so. Even if it's the right move to go with Berger and dump Grove, it does not mean the OL will block better this year than last. Loss of Mr. Utility also hurts.

The run game was really struggling in preseason. If it starts slow as it has in recent years (82 yards total from starting RB's last year's opener; 43 from leading rusher RB), could be a real struggle in Buffalo.

Maybe the staff and FO are all mad geniuses this year. I hope so. Personally, in my experience, when a team has this many question-marks going into a season, it is rare that they all get answered. The fewer the q-marks, typically, the better the season you have. The more, the worse. Not 100% true, but it is quite often the case. Of course, I'll be elated to be wrong.

    Yet another worrisome stat. :pity:

I went from being extremely confident in our chances in this game to being almost completely convinced that we lose. I know I'm being negative. Can't help it. I hope to come on the board and eat some delicious crow Sunday evening.

I've been gone about a week on a vacation and come back to see that we have made some interesting moves etc.

Man I dont think this will make you feel any better but I am not happy and I dont see us going any better than 4-12.

    <sigh>

I see us dropping this game at Buffalo unless Ronnie and Ricky can produce.

I feel worse this season than I did BEFORE the 1-15 season.

I hope I am wrong but I seriously think this season is going to be a huge let down.

I can think of ALMOST nothing harder in this world than being a Dolphins fan. We have such a storied history and ever since the Perfect Season of '72 and Don Shula as the coach, our expections every year are always up there...and following Shula's retirement, SUper Bowl Champion coach Jimmy Johnson.....then Dave Wannstadt.....you think, ok...he was Jimmy Johnson's DC in Dallas....maybe second time around he'll have better success...then you get Nick Saban who knew nohting but success in the NCAA....then the explosive OC from San Diego in Cam Cameron....then the Tuna and "his" people...every year we're hyped more and more and more with higher expectations than the previous year and every year...*sighs*...we seem to end our season in heartbreak.

My first year watching football, I was a 6 year old boy (about to turn 7). My family just PCS'd to Mayport Naval Station...Jacksonville Beach...Watched what my grandpa called "The Fish"....each week....win after win after win...I was instantly hooked on the Dolphins and every year since, I always expect that it's our time again.

Best advice I can offer...know what we have...accept what we have...hope for the best...expect the worse...and settle for something in between.

It has nothing to do with just people being released.

    The OLine is unsettled.

The secondary is scary. (for us! as opponents are smiling from ear to ear)

The pass rush was nothing to go crazy about.

Passing game left a lot to be desired.

    Injuries all over the place.

Running game had one play. (RW for 40+ yards)

Depth on D looks very weak.

More questions than answers about Henne.

Other than that we are awesome!

So yeah my usual "11-5 or better" isn't comming around this season. 4-12. So if we do better then I will be surprised and have a great time since I expected little and got a lot.

You can argue "Its only preseason". Sure, great, of course. But you expect players to show you something when they are fighting for their jobs. Only a few showed anything while many others either regressed, dropped off, or just plain stunk.

I hope they can turn it on like a light switch come Sunday.

EDIT: Let me add that our TEs are mehhhhh. Fasano needs to wake up and show up every game and not just every 4 games, if that.

I'm very worried our secondary will be one of the worst in the league this year. In this passing league, that will doom us if it turns out to be the case.

Now that our season is over for all intents and purposes I figured I would go back and look at the things I was worried about in the beginning and see which fears ended up being valid -

...we won't have a pass rush.

For the most part, not valid thanks to the emergence of Cameron Wake. But there were big games where the pass rush seemed nonexistent. Most recently, at home against Buffalo.

...Our secondary will stink this year.

Not Valid. They still struggled in games. Off the top of my head, especially the Bears game and gave up some big plays against Buffalo, but they still were greatly improved. Vontae Davis has had a great season, IMHO.

...Chad Henne is in for a Sophomore slump. Or maybe simply isn't as good as I think he is.

VALID. Was it a sophomore slump? Or does Henne just not have what it takes?

...Dan Henning's play calling will doom us.

    VALID. NUFF SAID.

...Brandon Marshall will fail to live up to expectations.

Valid, but I'm not sure how much blame should be heaped on Marshall. I think the drop in production is more due to Henne's play, Henning's ineptitude, and us not giving Captain Neckbeard enough credit for being a pretty damn good QB.

...Sparano will make some suspect gametime coaching decisions again this year.

Valid? His conservative approach and field goal cheering during games was sickening. But what bothered me more was his game preparation after wins. Even though we have no idea what was going on behind closed doors, save the Vikings game, Sparano was unable to coach this team to two straight victories all year. That kind of inconsistency is a big red flag for problems with coaching.

...The Bills are better than we give them credit for and we'll drop another season opener.

Invalid for the opener. But once they inserted Fitzpatrick as their starter, this fear became valid.

    What a disappointing season.

Henne might have had a couple of decent games, but I think we can safely say he regressed validating my other concern. And Sparano's coaching has been questionable at best.

These aren't really my assessments, they were my concerns at the beginning of the season. Since I was worried about pretty much anything that could have gone wrong, I was bound to be right about some of them. Unfortunately...

My biggest fear was Henning. Ever since the Ricky Williams disaster in Buffalo last year. Just no faith in him. He is 100% obsolete in todays NFL. The day he officially retires and is done ****ing up this team I'm going to get good and drunk celebrating.
