Fair and interesting take, I have mentioned Simms often in comparing him to Henne Seems to like Wake http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ords-patriots-dolphins-122910,0,3613600.story Says some interesting things, worth the read.
Phil Simms is an interesting comparison considering he wasn't really that good of a QB (statistics wise). The Giants had a very good defense and a good running game which masked some of Simms' deficiencies. I wouldn't call him one of the best Giants ever. Regardless, I think we would be all happy if Henne turned into the caliber player that Simms was, I just don't think Henne has the "it" factor and Simms definitely had that. Their styles are very similar but Simms was a winner. Simms could win games in the 4th quarter. Henne just hasn't been able to get there. Hard to say if he ever will, but all I have heard is you either have "it" or you don't. It's safe to say we have a PREMIER pass rushing LB. Hopefully Misi continues to grow and we are able to tweak the secondary a little, this defense could be Top 3 as early as next year.
But he wasn't a winner early, he in fact had no pocket awareness and stared down WR's. I'm not saying Henne will be Simms, I'm just saying they so far are on very similar paths. But he wasn't a winner early, he in fact had no pocket awareness and stared down WR's. In his 5th year Simms started taking off.
Phil simms also came into the league 30 years ago. His numbers aren't relevant. Teams passed less and had less sucess passing the ball than they do now. Negative TD/INT ratios were pretty common, even for the better QB's. It was a different game.
Bill Belichick is never going to tell the truth regarding anyone at anytime. You can safely ignore anything he says.
I'm not talking stats, I'm talking styles and what they went through, in fact both under Parcells watch.
I agree with this. He says the same thing about every team. Take out the team name and replace with any other. Brady does the same thing. People sometimes forget that the game has changed. It is no longer the same game that Parcells won a SB with when he was in NY. Even the rules have changed since then. It is now a passing league made up with playmakers in most positions.
Really, maybe you should look at his superbowl stats. The guy was like 20-21. He was incredible in the big game.
I never said he wasn't good in the big games. I said his situation is completely irrelevant to Henne's.
The only thing Simms and Henne have in common is neither has much of a personality Jon Kitna is a better comparison to Henne statistically, only IMO Kitna is actually a bit better.
