The one thing Sparano had going for him was that he had a hard working, gritty, football team....well this team has 100% quit today and that is a product of coaching. I was on the fence with Henne and Sparano but how could I in my right mind believe our team is better off with either of those chumps? And Brandon Marshall just showed why the ball needs to be thrown to him and the next play has a basic pass drop off his hands..... Either way if this team needs a whole new identity.
There's just something inherently wrong with this offense. The absolute failure of the offense looks like its taking its toll on the defense too. Only so much you can take before you finally just say F*** it.
Agreed. The damn field goals too. How can that not totally deflate a defense? Get a takeaway or make a big play and your offense is more than happy to settle for crappy field goals. Wooopty doo.
no doubt in my mind. I want Henning gone for sure, and Sparano can go with him for all I care. I've seen enough. There's no improvement from him as a coach when it comes to game management, this team came out completely flat today at the start, and after half, they've quit 110% on Sparano. We saw/heard signs of it halfway into the season when Ricky was talkin about you can only listen to the play it safe talks so long, and keep loosing because of your ultra conservative playcalling for so long before it starts to fall on deaf ears. That's exactly what its done now. Change has to happen, all along the offense, and at the head coaching position. It's the only way we're going to have a chance to go anywhere. This team will go nowhere with Sparano at the helm
I'll pack Sparano's bags. Henning's bags too, and while I'm at it let me get to Thigpens and Henne's locker. I'd burn the stuff inside... They all stink
Sadly you still WILL hear it from a select few, but how can Ross justify keeping this offensive joke together?
When the likes of Jake Long and Dan Carpenter are even playing poorly it is all to clear this sh-tstorm needs dismantled.
I have the whole season on my DVR too. I guess I can do a complete cleansing of that tomorrow. What a nightmare.
Well I'm not the type of person to say "I told you so", but I've been saying since about Week 4 that our offense sucked. For those who may (or may not) remember, how many times did I point out that we weren't RUNNING the ball? How many times did I poiint out that when we ran the ball 25 times or more we won? How many times have I pointed out that when our offense has become one deminsional ie; Henne short pass right...Henne short pass right...that he was going to get intercepted? I'm on the fence about Sparano, but seeiing how Parcells abandoned ship, I'd be inclined to abandone Sparano as well, but the root of the problem was not Tony Sparano, it has been...and always was Dan Henning. If you need proof, just look at his coaching record. Except for one brilliant season...not too good.
Don't do it. It's like a failed marriage. Someone is going to try to convince you that Chad Henne can change. You need all 16 games.
Hard to justify keeping the head guy who in the last 2 years went 14-18, lost 7 out of 8 games at home this season including SNF and MNF humiliations and defeats at the hands of 3 of the league's worst teams -not to mention enabling the worst OC in the league! Only way Ross keeps him is if Tony has incriminating graphic photos of Steve and a clantily-clad underage sheep.
Yeah good to see Vaark over here. I have been firmly in the keep Sparano, I don't want to start over again camp. I am just tired of that hamsters treadmill we've been on for 10 years. However, after watching this team quit today when all week we've heard the players say how much they like Sparano I just can't defend the position any further. If they like and respect him so much, why did they just shove a knife in his back? Clearly most of the trouble is with the offense on this team, I had hoped we could somehow replace Henning, ditch Henne and grab a real Qb prospect in the 1st round next year and get our team competitive. That is not going to be near enough. Sadly we must change regimes again.
Because every time we change coaches we set ourselves back 3-5 years. It takes that long to set up new systems, draft, analyze the talent you have and make the corrections that take 2 -3 additional years to make. Sparano deserves to have the opportunity to make the corrections and move forward without looking over his shoulder. You guys can bring whoever you like in....it will still take them (Cowher, Gruden, whoever), 3-5 years to set up shop to be consistently competitive and 5-8 years to win a superbowl!!!
Not in my mind. It looked like Sparano knew it was coming. Did you see him on the field today. I have never seen him so dull. He had no fire inside himself. He looked like he wanted to throw in the towel at 14-0. No fire at all.
While I agree with you, even if the root of the problem is/was Henning, it still comes back to Sparano IMO. He's the HC, so it good or bad, it falls on him as far as I'm concerned.
I can see where you're coming from and I do agree with you to a degree, but Tony Sparano doesn't have hiring/firing authority over Dan Henning.
That's BS. Caldwell, Payton, Harbaugh, Smith, Ryan are all coaches who took over and have had playoff teams since. We have a lot of talent on this team. No reason we wouldn't have a chance next year with the right moves this offseason on offense.
Gotta remember what he SAID though.... Everytime "WE" change head coaches...and he's right. We've changed head coaches so many times and each time, we've eventually gone backwards after what seemed like promising first years.
So fear of change is the reason for retaining a coach who is clearly not good enough. Got it. We wouldn't want to disrupt all of this momentum Sparano has established in losing four of the last five games.
Well, "I'M" not saying that. Whether or not to fire Sparano is the answer, I'm not sure, but I've said it all the way back to week 4 and I still say it to this day... DAN HENNING HAS TO GO!!
Clearly not good enough? Is that really fair to say after just 3 seasons? I don't know about that. One good season and 2 mediocre seasons isn't exactly a disaster.
last season 0-3 in the last three games, this season 0-3 in the last three games = coach is not a closer
I don't know. I'm not going to be upset with either decision. If we get a new coach then fine, hopefully we can be better, if Sparano stays then I have faith he can turn it around.
Sparano was underqualified to begin with. He was hand picked because he is a Parcells guy but lets face it he was an OL coach..... He brought fire and inspiration to a team that had nothing, and that was great but when bad decisions are made consistantly the "go get'm guys!!" starts to lose its luster after a while and as we all saw it was sure not their today. Bad FA pickups, so so drafts, HORRIBLE clock management, in game adjustments that are laughable...etc etc Yes it sucks switching coaches AGAIN and it sucks switching Qb's AGAIN but it all boils down it has to happen. The goal is to put an organization together that can win a Super Bowl, Sparano/Henne are just not the guys.
Have to give it a day dude, bad loss in a string of bad losses, but cannot let that cloud decision making. Presser scheduled for 11:30am Monday, let's see what is shaking first.
