This would be extremely far fetched and we all know this isn't happening, but think about it. I think it would at the least be exciting. 1. We stick with Henne for another year. We won't be able to get Luck, Locker, or Mallet imo in the draft and that leaves us with Foles, Netwon, and Enderle who I do not want. I think we would be much better off with Henne than any of those 3. 2. We clean shop with our coaching staff. I don't know who we get, but we need to get rid of Henning and I would like to see us replace Ireland and Sparano as well. Plus, some other guys need to go too. 3. We do the complete opposite of what we did in last year's draft. Instead of drafting almost all defense, we draft almost all offense. Short mock draft: 1- RB, Ryan Williams 2- WR, Ryan Broyles* (We do what we can to get back into the 2nd, while keeping our 3rd and grab this guy) 3- TE, DJ Williams 4-7- Draft offensive linemen and fill in small depth chart holes. Free Agency: -Sign WR, James Jones -Sign G, Logan Mankins -Re-sign RB, Ronnie Brown -Re-sign RB, Patrick Cobbs -Re-sign G, Richie Incognito -Let Ricky, McQuistan, Haynos, etc... go. -Cut RB, Lex Hilliard Again, I know this is crazy and would never happen in a million years, but I like to dream. About the draft: Ryan Williams would solve so many problems at RB and is pretty versatile. It seems like he could be a decent receiving back as well. Ryan Broyles is a very good WR that I think we can grab if we trade back into the 2nd round. I never really wanted to go TE in this year's draft because I like Fasano, but some teams are having success with two TEs (ie. Pats and Cowboys) and DJ Williams could be a very solid receiving TE in the NFL. That leaves our offensive looking like this: QB- Chad Henne RB- Ryan Williams, Ronnie Brown, Patrick Cobbs WR- Brandon Marshall, Ryan Broyles, Davone Bess, Brian Hartline, James Jones TE- Anthony Fasano, DJ Williams LT- Jake Long LG- Logan Mankins C- Joe Berger RG- John Jerry RT- Vernon Carey We could open up our passing game and I feel Chad Henne would excel in this type of offense. 35+ pass attempts per game with as solid of a receiving/TE corps as that would be successful if you ask me. Imagine that offense matched up with our defense. Again, far fetched. But how sick would that be? I know you all hate Henne, but you couldn't doubt Henne with a new coaching staff, a great pass blocking OL, and great targets to throw to...not to mention, we would have a pretty solid run game with Williams and Brown. lol, just dreaming.
It is alot of speculation and imagination but in the end it would have to be an upgrade.Hope Henne can be "born again" but we will see.

I'd rather have Blain Gabbert or Cam Newton in the first round over Ryan Williams, but going with Cam means we get an also-ran vet (McNabb or Palmer?) or Henne for at least one season and more likely almost two. I will say that I'm dying for this team to select some freaking playmakers and make a commitment to offense. There's nothing more deflating to a good/great defense than an offense that is entirely inept and keeps them on the field the whole game. Eventually that wears teams down, emotionally, psychologically and physically. I wish we had a guy that you could think might take one the distance on any given play. Even Teddy Ginn had that ability and we let him go for freaking garbage. If nothing else, he's an elite kick returner.
We need atlest 2 new interior OL or the RB will be moot, also time to start considering a young replacement for Carey.
Please no. We do not need to be set back 2-3+ years with drafting a QB, but if we do draft a QB high, it better not be Newton. That would be like the Broncos drafting Terrelle Pryor next year. Unless you plan on drafting Newton, then moving him to wideout, this would be terrible for our offense. I do want to see more of Incognito at C, but he has only played one game there. I am not ready to declare him the starter already. Man, I miss Jake Grove. 1. I can assure you Henne doesn't have much value. Who wants to trade for a 26 year old QB that has had very little success so far? We may be able to get a 6th for him. Is that really worth it? No, it's not. If we do anything in terms of bringing in a guy to start over him, then Henne would be a great backup, especially since we would only be paying him about $550K or so. 3. I like Torrey Smith too, but I don't know much about him. Then again, I don't know much about Broyles. But, I do know that Broyles has some speed and can stretch the field. That is what I would hope we get if we draft a WR high. 4. Wait, so who would we keep at RB? Looking at your depth chart, I am assuming you want to get rid of both Cobbs and Hilliard? Two of our best Special Teamers? I would at least like to keep one of them. They don't do much for our offense, but they do a lot for our STs. That's a solid lineup, but I don't see us getting Orton or Kolb. If we do, then I would at least like to keep Henne to compete with whoever we bring in. We can still draft a TE and workout Epps. If we enter the season and Epps turns out to be awful, then we are screwed at the TE position. It would pretty much set us back to this season. Fasano and that's it. That is really the only thing I don't like about your lineup as a whole... -If Epps turns out to be a nothing, then we are left with only Fasano just like this season -Our biggest problem with the interior of our OLine this year was moving too many guys around and bringing in too many new faces. I like bringing in Mankins, but benching Berger and starting Incognito seems like we are doing too much. If we are making 2-3 changes on our offensive line every off season, they aren't going to get better. -Ronnie and Ricky both proved that they are just about done. That is why I want to draft a RB high (like Williams or Ingram) to be our future and let one of them go, then sign the other to a 1 year deal. That almost seems like we are setting ourselves back to this year, but with more risks (ie. new personnel)
i would rather a back with more speed especially if we keep ronnie.ryan runs a what 4.5? we need a guy that when he gets in the open field will not be caught 10 yards down field.it's one of our rb stables biggest issues.we have all power guys and no breakaway speed. i also think it would be a terrible idea if berger was our starting center and carey our starting rt but moreso on the berger. also think it would be difficult to get the second round pick we are missing and still stay at 15.we just don't have the talent that could garner such a pick in a player for pick trade without hurting our line-up.
I understand what you are saying. We finally got a playmaker in Marshall, but didn't use him like it appeared we were going to use him. He is also really our only playmaker on offense. You could argue Davone Bess, but still. He is more of a grinder that is reliable on 3rd downs. The thing about Ginn is, he was explosive, but I rather have a reliable receiver that will move the chains and willing to go over the middle. Plus, I think the 5th we got from San Fran turned into Reshad Jones, who I love so far. So, I'm not too disappointed about that. I don't know about 2 interior OL. I am all for drafting offensive linemen later in the draft and I would love me some Logan Mankins, but I don't think we need to get another guy to start other than Mankins. A lot of blame was put on our offensive line this year for R&R's lack of success, but if you watch, neither of those guys have any explosiveness anymore and neither could break a tackle for their life this year. It just seems like they are just about worn out. I do agree about a replacement for Carey soon though. I believe Ryan Williams ran a 4.43 (per WalterFootball). Plus, he is pretty quick. I like him a lot because of that. He really reminds me of Ryan Mathews. As for the 2nd round pick, we could always trade later draft picks to help move up as well as players. I'm sure we could find a way. edit: Actually we could probably trade down in the first like last year and pick up a 2nd, since we are picking 15th and Ryan Williams will probably be available in the 20s, I would assume.
When you said, "we won't be able to get ... Locker ..." as though that were a bad thing (or that he would be gone at #15) you lost me. Locker will be fortunate to be a late 2nd. He's likely a late 3rd or 4th. I simply can't see Chad Henne recovering from this year. He'd need an entirely new offense and to be honest: 1) Henne hasn't shown the work ethic that he needs; even with an offense that he knows. 2) He would be learning an entirely new offense. Honestly, if Chad Henne ever became a top 10 QB and led Miami to a SB, it would be as stunning to me as anything I've seen in the NFL and I've been watching the game a long, long time (since 1968). I know OC's impact the game, but the fact is the inept offense is largely due to Henne's failure to make plays. He's just a bad QB and I don't think any way he will be salvageable. As to 1st round RB - If we were to take a RB in round 1 I'd want Mark Ingram. I think there is a very good chance he'll be the second coming of Emmit Smith. Unfortunately, we have no Troy Aikman waiting on him!
I am 44 years old and sick and tired of the wait-till-next-year mentality. I was about 8 years old when we last won a Superbowl and I don't want to be crapping in my Depends when we win our next Superbowl. It's gets old, and I think we have to fix our QB situation before next season starts. This may mean giving up our first round pick for a solid veteran like Kyle Orton.
Newton has the TALENT and LEADERDHIP Miami has not had since Marino. Can throw 100 mph down the field and also has touch. Can run the ball to make the critical 1st down when needed. Newton is the real deal! He is a WINNER!!! Outside of Luck, Newton is the best option available. Not many other options in addressing the QB situation.
Really? Every mock draft and big board I have seen, has Locker taken in the top 10. The only mock draft I have seen that doesn't have him in the top 10, has him going 14th. I am not saying I want him, I am just saying he has far better NFL potential than guys like Cam Newton or Nathan Enderle or Nick Foles in my opinion. I understand you can't have a working offense with a bad QB, but I really feel like Henne is a solid QB and has a bright future in the NFL, with the right system, right coaching staff, and healthy players around him. What screws us more than anything is Dan Henning calling a HB draw on 2nd and 10 that loses two yards, then sets up a 3rd and 14, where he has 2 WRs running routes to the first down line and 1 RB running a down and out at the line of scrimmage. Not much you can do when the defense drops 6 guys into coverage and you have 3 players running routes (and only two running to the first down). It has been like that all season and I've said it a million times. Our offensive playcaller is in love with 3rd down. If it's 2nd and long, he runs it. If it's 2nd and short, he sends everyone 40 yards down the field and tries to air it out. It just doesn't make sense to me. That is what kills Henne.
I understand where you are coming from, but Henne has been put in awful situations his entire career so far. He hasn't even had the chance to prove himself and everyone wants to jump ship already. I literally cannot think of a QB that has been successful in the NFL with as many injuries as this guy has had around him. I just don't understand the point in wasting a 1st round pick like you said on a guy that may be the same thing as Henne. That would also leave us without a 1st or 2nd round pick. What do we do now? We have a QB that everyone likes, but we still have an awful run game, a moved around/beatup offensive line, and zero playmakers outside of Marshall at receiver. I can assure you one guy like Orton isn't going to fix our offense. Newton also has 1 year of gametape in college. Newton also bought a stolen laptop and was suspended by Florida. Newton also was shopped around by his father (Don't tell me he didn't know about it). To me, it would be like drafting a freshman. The guy has a lot of maturing to do and has little college experience. Plus, I can't think of an NFL team that has a system that would fit well for him. Much less, Miami.
And what a gametape it is! Led the nation in passing efficiency. UNBELIEVABLE!!! One of only 3 QBs in college football to pass for 20 TDs, and rush for 20 TDs. Paid the price for stealing a laptop. Will have plenty enough $$$ to buy his own. We are talking about the NCAA. They did their investigation and did NOT find any evidence Newton was part of the process of being shopped around. Showed INCREDIBLE MATURITY on the field and off the field while under the national spotlight that would have made most people, let alone kids, melt. He rose ABOVE what anyone could have expected. If that doesn't show maturity, I don't know what does. Led team to WINS @ Alabama and vs SC in SEC Championship throwing for 7 TDs, 0 int, and rushing for 3 more TDs. Bigger the game, the bigger he played. Took a 8-5 Auburn team that most experts didn't have in the top 20 and led them to an UNDEFEATED season playing for the National Championship playing in the best conference in college football. He was a man among boys on the field. Watching him play the game his energy is contagious. Has the RESPECT of his teammates and coaches. Has a cannon of an arm. Can make all the throws. Also, will be the best runner at QB outside of Michael Vick from day 1!
Orton is only around 27 or 28, and he was on pace to beat Marino's single season passing yards record, before he got hurt about 3 or 4 games ago. This despite not having any solid receivers other than Brandon Lloyd. If we draft another rookie QB we will not see anything come from this for at least 2 or 3 years. We also will have nothing but crumbs at QB by the time we pick at the 15th spot in 2011. Nothing is ever going to change in Miami until we get a franchise QB. Sorry, but Henne will never be more than a backup. Same with Thigpen. Pennington should retire and become a QB coach. Every playoff caliber team has a franchise QB. We have NOTHING. P.s., I also could live with Cam Newton but he won't last until the #15 spot
Honestly, I don't really see how this is that far fetched. You trade down in the 1st and pick up another 2nd and you still may be able to snag Williams in the late 1st. You didn't mention signing Mankins but I see him in your lineup for 2011. This is much needed although I don't see Berger and Jerry starting on the line for us next year. Incognito will be re-signed and will probably be our center in 2011. I would like to see them move Carey inside and pick up a Tackle in the 2nd they got from trading down. RT's aren't as difficult to find and I believe there is some depth at tackle in this years draft. The reason this isn't so far fetched is you have Henne still on the team. It starts to get far fetched when people say to trade the house for Luck and then draft Ryan Williams and then sign Mankins and Vincent Jackson. When you don't make a QB move, you are able to do alot more from a FA and draft perspective which means with your proposal, you may even be able to sign a couple of other serviceable FA's.
It would be a complete mistake and disaster, IMO, to draft a RB in the first round with such a glaring problem at QB.
but do you draft a QB just for the sake of drafting a QB? Who will be available? Does Mallett get past the Cardinals, Browns, 49ers, Titans, Redskins, Vikings? Do you want to go with Cam Newton?
You could give henne fives minutes to back up and throw but he would still find a way to mess it up. Every local newscast says last nite, he is unlikely to come back..........YES!!! NA-NA-NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA HEY!! HEY!! HEY!! GOOD BYE!!! If the saying is true that our minds are like parachutes in that they only function when they open, then Henne is in for a major crash....he cant throw deep with accuracy.....he throws even worse the 10-5 yard pass..............and he was benched twice yesterday and then 3 times this year in total!!! Nuff said!!
