You cannot have a lameduck coach...it is a recipe for disaster.

So if you keep him, you have to extend him and then put yourself on the hook for more money than if you just fired him if things go south.

    have you thought of that?

Ross is in a tough spot. He has to make a real decision, he has to really decide if Tony si the guy to begin the development of a young quarterback.

My conclusion? Keep Ireland, offer the job to Harbaugh and a select group of candidates, if you cannot get the TOP candidates you want...then keep Tony and extend him.

You cannot extend him. There is simply no basis for it. It's not like a Coughlin situation where the guy won a SB 3 years ago.

Ross needs to make a decision that will affect the next 10-15 years. I hope he makes the right one. to me, that means finding a personnell guy you trust and then together finding the right head coach. If it's Ireland, fine, but I'm agnostic on him.

and who will Ross ask for advice??? Parcells???

We all know how that will go and or has gone...

Peterson will be the guy he would trust now more than Bill (IMO)...

Seriously, Ross is not a football guy, so us wishing he hires the right guy to look out for the best interest of this team... he would fall back to his friend Carl... after the last demoralizing loss...

After a tough season... and this coming off season, if there is football next year, to continue with the olde...

as a business man that Ross is, I don't see it...

    I think its already done.

I think Jim Harbaugh will be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins....and Ireland will stay on as GM. And if this is the case....I think Ross just became a really special owner!!!

WOuld be a good fit. #1 Hes not going to have complete control over the team, and while I don't care for our current GM. I can live with him for another few years because we have some talent.

Our Coaches are the real problem.

You have to extend him. You would end up with John Fox-Marvin Lewis type situation. If you can't land Harbaugh (if he is the only target) you can't have a lame duck coach.

I think Ireland stays and he's in CA talking with Harbaugh now to see if he's interested. We may have to ask to speak to more coaches because of the Rooney Rule, but he should be the man.
