    I am biased but he is 6'5 / 250

He completed 67.1% of his passes in a very tough SEC and threw 28 TDs and 6 INTs
He ran for 1,409 yards (breaking a 40+ year SEC record) and 20 TDs and he caught a TD for good measure.

Look at Tim Tebow's stats for 2009 as comparison

He completed 67.8% of his passes and threw 21 TDS with 5 INTs.
He ran for 910 yards and 14 TDs.

Everyone said Tebow could not play in the NFL, but he is doing OK. I am thinking Newton with Brandon Marshall there could be a Roethlisberger type? Especially with a good running game.

At worst he adds excitement and he is better than Henne, who just looks terrible.

Am I off my rocker here?

I must admit, it does frustrate me when a guy like big ben has his pocket collapse, but he's too damn big and physical to get down, and he keeps the play alive...

and compound that with a guy who can bust out for a quick 10 and get you the first down.

Tebow was below average on that test as well and he looks like a beast to bring down. Same for Vick, who scored poorly and Roethlisberger was not much better. But Tom Brady got a 33 (Benny got a 25), but Brady failed in comparison to Ryan Fitzpatrick and his 48!!! So would we rather have Brady or Fitzpatrick? You know who #2 was - ALEX SMITH @ 40!!!

    That test is overrated!

I'm not sold on him and I don't think he'll be even an average NFL QB. I could be wrong, of course, but I don't see it in his play.

    Jsut for fun: JaMarcus Russell stats: 67.8% comp, 28 TD's, 8 INT's.

Excitement doesn't equate to good. Look at Vick during his career (other than this year). He sucked but was "exciting".

War Eagle! I like Newton's potential but I have serious concerns over his maturity. Face it, the kids had his share of trouble. If thate isn't an issue I think he'd be a great prospect. Big arm, seems to be accurate and difficult to bring down for sure. On top of that, the kid is an athlete as well. AND, he might be there at 15 if we can't move up.

He "Sucked"???? ~ the Falcons were in the playoffs consistently and were on MNF frequently and had a huge following. Vick's best WR was a TE. He was not great or dedicated but he did not "suck". Henne is the definition of "SUCK". Not saying Cam will be great but unlike Russell he is not fat as evidenced by his rushing accomplishments. I compare him more to Roethlisberger and Tebow.

Before this season, Vick sucked as a QB. There is just no getting around that fact. He was horrible. I'm also on record as saying that this season for him is a fluke and he will be horrible again...and sooner rather than later.

I think our operational definition of "suck" differs, Marine.

His completion % was awful but his rushing numbers were outstanding. In his four healthy seasons with the Falcons he was decent.

    24 TDs in 02-03
    17 TDs in 04-05
    21 TDs in 05-06
    22 TDs in 06-07

    These are combined for rushing/passing.

He ran for over 1,000 yards in 06-07

He was not great but he did not suck and he did not really have a good WR (not one).

    Just saying.

Funny that Roddy White was not good with Vick, but somehow became awesome/unstoppable with Matt Ryan. Vick was a terrible QB in Atlanta. His throwing numbers were just not good. He was an incredible athlete, and did amazing things rushing the ball...but that shouldn't discount how bad he was throwing the ball.

Time, like the next season with Matt Ryan time? Ryan, in his first year, threw 16 tds. Roddy White caught 7 of them. He caught 6 the year before. He had 1,000+ yard season in 2006 and 2007. I wouldn't say that he sucked. Roddy caught 6 tds from Vick in 2006. I guess what I'm saying is that Vick had a legit number one, a pretty dominant run game, and a decent tight end, and he struggled to throw the ball in Atlanta. He was not a good QB. He was a playmaker, just not by throwing the ball.

Vick had accuracy issues in Atlanta, this much is true. Roddy White was a rookie when Vick was there and as we have seen from many WR's, it wasn't until White's 3rd year that he became what he is today. All that being said, it's safe to say that the Eagles coaching has helped Vick out tremendously, not to mention Vick's new attitude on life and football. Remember when he was with Atlanta, he was a superstar who was all over Sports Illustrated and all over ESPN. He had the attitude that he didn't have to put in the work b/c he was so good already. Now that his attitude has changed and he has the right coaching around him (to go with the weapons the Eagles have), you have seen his accuracy improve dramatically.

The other thing to remember with Vick is that he has had always had an unbelievably strong arm to go with his speed and elusiveness. What was lacking was the accuracy and that appears to be solved.

When comparing Vick to Newton, it would be interesting to see what Vick's numbers looked like in college and how accurate he was. Newton has shown that he can be very accurate in the college game, if Vick showed something similar, you may see an adjustment and maturing period with Newton as well.

When I look at these two guys, I see a bit of a difference. I would be that Newton has the better overall QB skills then Vick while Vick coming out of college had the better overall intangibles (rediculously strong arm, speed, elusiveness). That being said, I have heard Newton has to work on his feet in the pocket and obviously the NFL is much faster then college overall. Will be an interesting debate leading up to the draft and also into the 2011 season. My opinion on Newton (and this isn't anything I would take to the bank b/c I just don't know enough about him) is that he will take a year or two to learn in the NFL to turn into a franchise QB. A little different to a Sam Bradford who you could kind of tell was NFL ready coming out of college.

Everyone *****es about Henne but Cam Newton won't be ready to go in and start. He is a good athlete but a project.
You miss big with a player who needs proper development and you set this franchise back years.
No thanks on Cam Newton. Besides he is majoring in Social Services. Doubt he would have the brains to be a good NFL QB. :shifty:

Newton is the type of prospect that alot of teams could regret passing up, he has got mad size and talent but like with most college QB's their mental makeup and how it translates to the Pro level is always a question mark.

But he does seem to have everything you would want in the making of a NFL QB.

I love Josh Freeman. It's ironic that the jests traded up for a yet to be determined, shaky work in progress but could have stayed where they were for a true game changing "franchise QB." Would love to pick up someone like him.

But the question is: would we have to hide our laptops when he's nearby?

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't mind Cam at all... I think he could work well with what we have on offense already. I'm not going to go crazy if we don't draft him, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if we did.

Cam Newton is Dumb....and i know this from a very good source. His character is also a bit questionable. Yes he has talent, but i think he is more on the Vince Young/Jamarcus Russell side than Vick/tebow.

Seriously? If you want a running back, let's go get one. If you want a QB with accuracy issues, don't we have that already? Vick was good cause of his running in his years with Atlanta. He's having a great year, this year, passing. But everyone is forgetting just how bad Vick was throwing the ball in Atlanta. He had no touch, and he sprayed the ball all over the field.

While it is true that Roddy didnt put up 1000+ his first two years with Vick, he also only caught like 30 balls hose seasons...bit he was averaging like 15 yards a catch. He didn't "suck" at any point when Vick was there.
