They will give a token interview to someone and call it good. Most likely cut a deal with a minority coach alreayd on staff with the promise to keep him around once Harbaugh coming on. Sirius NFL Radio is KILLING Ross for his handling of this situation.
Here's another nugget, this time from the Herald's David J. Neal. Beard comment to Tony Dungy back in 1990s.
We have Todd Bowles, who cant be hired by dallas to be the OC (because thats not a promotion) until we give permission. I think Mr, Bowles will satisfy the roony rule.
exactly. If he is willing to pay dude 7 million a year, he would pay the fine in cash and not think twice about it.
He looks like he's falling all over himself with ignorance. I am not saying that Harbaugh won't end up here, it just my opinion that he won't wait for us and due to our owner acting like a child, flying across the country chasing a college coach with no NFL experience. If I were Ross, I'd stop hyperventilating and talk to Brian Billick
its only a fine, i dont think we forfeit any draft picks so who cares? i mean we're making a college coach the highest paid coach in the NFL over people like Belichik lol. I dont think a fine is going to squash this
Ross is going for the throat without the niceties .I am sure they evaluated the impact of the Rooney rule and estimated that it could be handled .
This isn't news. This will in no way prevent Harbaugh from being hired if he accepts. As far as people killing Ross for how he handled the situation, who cares? This happens in other sports all the time, baseball probably being the most common. I always love it when people get mad for someone else. Tony will be crying all the way to the bank next year I'm sure.
200k lol, Ross wipes his *** with diamond encrusted toilet paper. Bring on the fine Goodell you puppet.
More than likely Bowles. Something to this effect...Ross: Congrats T.Bowles! We have a little problem here (ala Office Space for those fans).
when I interviewed for IBM I was given a cheat sheet/suggestions on what they felt was appropriate in dress, grooming & attitude there are always employer expectations my employment councilor suggested I shave my beard stating it made me look like Che' Guevara & although it may have been appropriate for the working @ the University was not a fit for IBM in Sao Paulo it is what it is: didn't shave the beard didn't get the job we have choices
I was wondering if anyone was going to pick up on that, Brian Billick has a black soul, maybe that'll satisfy the Rooney Rule......
The ONLY thing Ross has done wrong is not publicly cutting Sparano loose before embarking on this serenade under Harbaugh's balcony. Unless you count keeping Ireland...but that's just one man's opinion. What he's doing in pursuing Harbaugh is EXACTLY what I want to see my franchise owner doing: identifying the best and stopping at NOTHING to get him in the fold. And **** any clown in the media who thinks and says otherwise.
LMAO at those that think JH won't "wait". You mean he won't wait the dreaded 48 hours for us to fire Sparano, and do a token interview to satisfy the Rooney rule? If that even takes 48 hours to do to begin with. Laughable...Oh no, this guy is not going to wait a day or two to cash in on 7-8 million a year.......
Believe me, Karl Dorrell is standing by in davie to interview, particularly if it keeps him on Harbaugh's staff.
It's not like he doesn't know who Ross is. They have some ties. And like others said, what is $250k worth to a billionaire? I honestly could care less about the rest of the league's perspective of us. If they hate us, then screw them. Miami is slowly becoming the most hated sports city in America right now though. I kinda like it.
The rest of the country hates Miami. What else is new? Frankly, if this town isn’t hated, we aren’t doing something right. Examples: the ’72 Dolphins, the ‘80s Canes, the 2003 Marlins, the current Heat roster. All hated nationally.
If Ross gives me one free day in his owners box during any home game next year, I'll tell reporters, he did interview my father in-law for the job. That would take about 1 minute over the phone. Rooney Rule complied with.
I will go on record saying that Harbaugh isn't worth the money and I wish Ross would give up on the idea of a college promotion. I want a coach with NFL playoff experience. We don't need a situation in our first playoff game where our coach and our players are peeing their pants. IMHO: if you want a pilot for a 747, you don't hire a guy with crop duster experience, you hire a 747 pilot. Ross is ready to overpay a coach who has never coached in this league? This guy is totally out of control.
I think that everyone on this board knows more than Ross about the game of football. He's way over his head and it shows.
Personally, I have been skeptical of Harbaugh accepting an offer and I think he will ultimately turn it down for several reasons: 1) He will still get a ton of $$ out of SF. 2) There will be a lot less pressure ($6 M not same as getting $8 M per as the highest paid coach in NFL). 3) He gets to stay in Bay area 4) SF - a lot less immediate expectations (worse record and no one expects an immediate turn around) 5) PRofessionally, he's just better off there right now with SF better situated for a quicker turnaround: they have higher draft choices and 5 selections in first four rounds to Dolphins 3; he does not have to leap over the strong NY/NE teams; he has the worst division in football to compete against (Sea; Rams; Cards). I may be dead wrong but I think he turns us down ultimately. Either way, I think Ross will come out of this looking bad either in the eyes of Dolphin fans generally or the rest of the nation - including national media (or both).
Harbaugh, as a player, was minutes away from the Super Bowl. And you think he'll "pee his pants" if he gets us to the playoffs? I think it's a better chance that some here will pee their pants if we get into the playoffs next season.
That may be true, but Ross knows more people who know more about football than anyone on this board. Over his head? And it shows? LMFAO!!!
1 and 2: 2 million a year is more money and there is just the same pressue in SF 3. true 4. Not true. Everyone thought they would rule the division this year. These people want and expect playoffs. 5) true
yeah this is the first year we get to see who our owner is and i'm starting to realize I'm not rooting for a team anymore so much as I'm rooting for a circus show. i now know how redskins fans feel
I'm officially annoyed now. This Ross bashing is stupid and unnecessary. He's doing what he has to right now. If he misses out on Harbaugh, Cowher & Gruden, AFTER he fired Sparano and the collective bargaining agreement goes away, he'd look like a complete fool and everyone would have blasted him then cause we'd just have to promote Nolan. Doing it this way he can keep as many options open as possible, which is smart. He has a responsibility to not only Sparano but also every other Dolphins employee AND the fans to put the team in the best position as possible. That position is not always cutting your loses before you have a plan in place. It really doesn't matter to Sparano whether he gets fired Tuesday or Friday and if it does, well so be it. The chicken littles here have just quite literally gone off the deep end and it is truly grating.
You could be correct also. That's some good thinking but it's not up to us to decide, just speculate. That's why we have to let the business decisions fall where they may. On a side note: I just love how there are some here that think the sky is falling every, single time something is tweeted, said to rumored, etc. Noone here has the power to know what's going to happen, nor the money to change that.Have fun,lay back and hope for the best. We're all Dolphins fans here(I hope). Whatever choices are made just accept it with a smile.
Great post! It's obvious that some here don't realize that this is a business and businessmen run it. Trainers, players, coaches etc etc ALL look over their shoulder if the team is not producing results. I like Sparano. I STILL think he'll be a good HC. Maybe here, maybe someplace else, however, he knew the good and bad of this line of work. Ross, IMO, is showing that he WANTS a winning team and will do nearly anything to get it. I love that.
