Drama Queen central. LOL. The report was just stating the situation as it sits real time. Yes the Dolphins can't make an official offer until they fire Sparano and address the Rooney rule. It's just a formality however. If the Phins and Harbaugh come to an agreement that they are a match they'll work out all the details and come to a verbal agreement. Then the process of satisfying imposed procedures will take place as quickly as possible. The Rooney Rule wont prevent anything.
Back when the NFL fined the Lions 200.000$, they made it pretty clear that this was only because it had been a recently enacted rule and that further violations or attempts to circumvent it would lead to substantially higher fines or "other forms of penalty". For what it's worth.
Jeff_Darlington There's currently an expectation that if/when the Dolphins needs to fulfill Rooney Rule, they will interview Oakland OC Hue Jackson. Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/#ixzz1AHdz6k00
How dare Steven Ross pull out all the stops, open his wallet wide open and do everything in his power to make our favorite team a contender once again......... oh wait
Friend Nappy Roots: trying to intimidate Friend SlowMotion using the race card is inappropriate & out-dated better to attack the post on its merits then arbitrarily close/control the discussion under threat of racism & the threat of being labeled a racist by the way, just to set the record straight: like many Americans & fellow posters my family is of mixed ethnic/racial origin I have no dog in this fight
1. The Rooney Rule is not "damn" or "stupid". It is an important rule that helps minorities break through the good-ol-boy network. 2. Who's to say Ross or Ireland haven't already interviewed a minority? Interviews happen without the press knowing about it.
Could we be reading this wrong? What if Sporano is going to be our new OC / assistant HC for Harbaugh? That would explain why he is still around....maybe?? I dunno. . .
That would be a tough sell since 84% of all the players in the NFL are minorities. This rule may have helped years ago but things have changed since Howard Cosell got fired for no reason.
I like the assumption that everything is already fair and equal and therefore there's no need for such a rule. Brilliant actually. How can you out of one side of your mouth make the case that essentially racism doesn't exist, but then turn around and call this fighting racism with racism?
I know, but the "either way" part is interesting. Apparently, at least according to Shefter, this is far from a done deal that only needs the Rooney Rule out of the way.
What on Earth are you talking about?!!?! What percentage of Head Coaches are black? How many GMs are black. The good-ole-boy network is alive and well in the NFL.
There is actually a greater number of black coaches in terms of percentage than the actual population in the U.S. For whatever that is worth. The good news about Hue Jackson is that his name and status is, at least artificially if not realistically, puffed up because of this. He will almost be guaranteed a head coaching gig here sooner rather than later. Nature of the beast. Singletary was the Rooney Rule go to guy for a few years before getting his shot, as was Frazier. Jackson will be the same.
Point #2 is what I would expect. If you plan on flying out to the West Coast determined to close the HC deal, I think the first thing Ross and Ireland would have done is make sure they had interviewed a Rooney rule candidate FIRST. Get it out of the way early in the process so you aren;t delayed at all later.
Remember last year, when Pete Carroll left USC, and the Seahawks "interviewed" Leslie Frazier, even though every media outlet was saying it was a done deal? Its no big deal and the requirements will get satisfied.
Where in the Rooney Rule does it say an owner can't hire who they want. Read more: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/20...ey-rule-brings-opportunity.html#ixzz1AHkkqazN
Friend Nappy Roots: you said about Slowmotion: "Seriously?? That's so unbelievablely ignorant there's no response even needed" perhaps I over reacted to what may have been implied, if so please accept my apologies. we've been friends a long time & have always known you to post with respect & integrity. however, the post was a little edgy & open ended, something most of us have been guilty of on more than one occaision
And why is it that MINORITY coaches would have never been thought of before hand? I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Typically, when a person who earlier has been freely giving a response and then suddenly say that a response is not needed is a person that is stumped and has no response to counter. In short, they have been defeated.
And typically, no actually ALWAYS, when someone brings up the fact or BACKs the fact that slavery was over 200 years ago so people need to get over it, they are extremely ignorant to this subject. Its 2011 buddy, if you still feel this way, then im not going to waste my time typing out a response on the subject. Go on believing what you want. The rest of us will be living in the real world.
Ummm...because of the good ole boy network where white guys hire other white guys??? This whole debate is insane! The Rooney Rule merely mandates that a team INTERVIEW a minority. That's it. A one-hour sit-down will suffice. Jeez.
Doesn't Art Shell still reside in the 925 area code? Just have the driver swing through Oakland on the way back to the airport, and keep the engine idling, while Ireland entertains Harbaugh in back , and Ross runs in to have him fill out an application.
This is what blows my mind. People are *****ing about a rule, that has shown to help get names out there in the past, that simply states you have to interview a minority candidate. Theres a reason why this rule was implanted! To many white guys, not even noticing any coaches without white skin.
LOL! Says who? Listen, I won't usually talk about religion, politics or race on a sports board, but I will say one thing. The day that ALL PEOPLE realize that life isn't fair, and that bad things have happened to ALL PEOPLE at one time or another is the day that people stop wanting special treatment. In today's America, racism is few and far between. It's there, no doubt, but not nearly enough to affect people in the ways that some (Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, KKK etc etc) would have you believe. Other than the few idiots who will yell the "N" word at someone or call the white guy walking by "Honky", racism just isn't powerful enough to really accomplish anything. Slowmotion was 100% correct. AA is nothing more than telling minorities that they aren't smart enough or good enough to earn the job on their own. It's that simple. In today's times MOST people are doing nothing more than looking for the BEST person for the job. They don't care what color that person is. Sure, there are some that don't, but they are dying off. And the ones that are around, do you want to work for them if they don't like you because of the color of your skin?
professional sports is a money making industry. it is no place for nonsense, it is no place for excuses. only the best should play, only the best should coach. it has to be all about the business of winning games competition is the elixir of success simple enough concept for me Adam Smith: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest." & so it is in professional football or any other economic activity it is what it is & all the wrong thinking in world won't change it
The same people who ***** about the Rooney Rule are the same people who, now that we have a BLACK President, want to "take our country back".
I sense some anger in your post. Why? Anyone here state that they want to "take our country back"? lol....
