I think people don't understand the perception is what is bad. The NFL is all about image. This situation has been speculated on late night talk shows (Letterman) and brings ridicule to the NFL. Ross wants future Super Bowls from the NFL, he also wants stadium renovation with public money. Things like this, while poohed-phooed as "non issue" by many of the less sophisticated posters on the board, is a very big deal within the NFL I can assure you. All you hear about is "Protecting the Shield" by Goodell & the top NFL brass, and this has put one black mark towards the Dolphins organization. It also takes a great deal of balls to start asking for public money, to renovate your PRIVATE stadium. All you ultra conservative types how do you feel about that ? Your taxes increasing to help pay for that ? If you notice the plea for money is to Broward County specifically. At least they know better than to ask for money from Miami-Dade. So are you willing to pay higher taxes to see your Dolphins ?

Yeah I'd say so for a couple reasons. When we were 1-15 it was due to being outcoached and out performed by better players. Saban was no fault of the organization or players. This mess is due to the owner, his "advisor" and possibly our GM. IT reeks of not only cruelty towards sparano, but it also makes the organization seems ill-equipped at the top level, disorganized, and lacking of basic integrity, IMO.

EDIT: I'd also like to say that I am happy with the decision to keep sparano, but the info given by the OP is just ludicris. Of course given the option Sparano would want to stay. I hope we get a competent, innovative OC and win a lot of games next.

 

My conspiracy theory:
With how much Harbaugh was being wooed by everyone, Ross scratched out a future deal with Jim so he could return to school with Luck for a Natl Championship, and then he'll end up here in 2012 when we have more ammo to trade up for Luck if needed (while the 2011 draft is used to get pieces in place for Andrew & Jim).

 

Then he screws himself out of his last year of pay. Coaches that quit don't have to be paid the remainder of their contract.

I stared down the barrel of a strike before. It's a crappy feeling when the money stops. Tony Sparano had 2.5 million reasons to sit out during the process. The reward for sitting it out is now MORE guaranteed money staring down the barrel of a lockout. I'd say it's a pretty smart move.

This isn't monopoly money and all signs are pointing to a lockout.........and Sparano is going into the lockout WITH A RAISE. How is that for stupid?
