I agree. He is fine as a short term solution while you're getting a young guy ready but a tandem of him and Henne is not a recipie for success, IMO

I tend to agree in that when I watch Kevin Kolb I feel like I'm watching what a guy with Chad Henne's modest talent could do production-wise if the scheme actually cooperated with him the way Philly's scheme cooperated with Kevin Kolb.

The eye in the sky doesn't lie, a good amount of film review is going to tell you how talented these guys really are and when I watch Kolb I don't see a guy that is more talented than Henne, nor significantly less talented...but I do see a guy that is more productive, and that has to be attributed to the combination of weapons around him and scheme.

As for a top 5, I have more then 5:
    Deangelo Williams (if available)
Ahmad Bradshaw - guy always wants the ball, injuries and ball security prevent him from being a full time back but he still leads the NFL in 20 + yard plays. Explosive and runs inside.
Michael Bush - tough runner with overlooked burst.
Ryan Kalil - one of the top 3 centers in the league
Mercedes Lewis - Tall target with good hands and a nose for end zone. He makes big plays, plain and simple.
Logan Mankins - Pats run game has averaged about a half yard more per carry since he came back. Not a coincidence.
Kam Wimbley and D'Qwell Jackson - linebackers who are 3-4 tested and can make plays.

    Do not want:
Mcnabb - Don't think there's much left in the tank
Palmer - Always felt he was too mechanical and lacked emotion and leadership
Orton - Talk about an instance where stats are misleading. No x 1000.

I don't think Kalil is a really good player especially against 3-4 NTs. I think he really lacks strength otherwise I'd say go get him and Mankins. My prediction?

    - Jacoby Jones
    - Bo Scaife
    - Logan Mankins
    - Michael Bush
    - Leon Washington

    1- Mark Ingram
3- Kirkpatrick (compete with Incognito and Berger for the C spot, Incognito will win that job or the RG job)
    4- speed WR

Good line, good backs especially Ingram, a #2 TE that's all-around, and a speed WR.

So what happened to Laurence Maroney? I remember him and Marion Barber at Minn just shredding the Big Ten.

I see where the Pat trading him to the Broncos but his contract status is still listed as free agent
    Laurence Maroney

    Thoughts?

that is the scoop on Kyle Orton, but it also means we really are not in the running for him as we also have 6 draft picks and the Broncos already have our #2 pick, which would mean our #1 pick, or a 3rd, and unless we can engineer a trade back out of our first round choice and pick up say a later #1 and a #2, or what have you, we really have nothing to offer for him.

    Tony McDaniel.

I've soured on Orton heavily over the last couple weeks. Bothers me that in that system he put up those kinds of stats in crunch time. He's the Larry Centers of quarterbacks.

Well, we got a look at Shaun Hill today, I thought he played really well, knew how to use his weapons, and knew how to avoid negative plays.

IDK Bro, what if instead of "Hill" his name was "Fiedler"?

That is what that sort of decision remind me off, do we want "good" at Qb? Haven't we been there before?

I take you for your word when you say you think Henne and Kolb are more or less similarly talented. But it makes me think how important "little" things are in the NFL.

Henne, by any account, has the tools to succeed in the NFL. But he can't read defenses. He doesn't throw a good deep ball either and he has terrible pocket presence. Henne's still young, but I don't see any real potential in him at this point considering the substantial flaws in his game. While some of these flaws are a result of the very poor offensive coaching, the fact is Henne just isn't that good.

I don't particularly like Kolb as a prospect, and certainly not for a decent draft pick, but he's an unknown with some degree of promise. At this point, I don't think Henne has much promise. If he's our starting quarterback next year I don't think we should expect much different results than this year.

Well now, I thought keeping an eye on Palmer in the Chargers game, a good defense, would tell us where he is at..but in this case I think that is a bit out of the norm..

There's just something that happens to the Chargers when they play in Cincinnati, especially in the cold. Kind of like the Jets playing at Seattle. Just doesn't happen. Didn't see the game as we were driving but had it on the radio...sounded like Palmer played very well. Interesting that Jerome Simpson (a huge bust) had a breakout game in place of Ochocinco.

    Funny isn't it?

I was dead serious when it was mentioned that Palmer was trying to force the ball into TO way to much, surprised at the 16 for 21, not surprised he played better without the err, "dynamic dunces" in the mix.

Owe you an apology padre. I've got to hand it to you...a few weeks ago, I thought the idea of Palmer was crazy. Now, if you were to serve me a plate of crow (A1 sauce please) and a jack and coke...well, I'd be skippy. Palmer hasn't looked as bad as he did earlier, and I think the TO/Chad Johnson theory holds more weight than I initally gave credence to. I've been trying to hound my Bengals source for info about Palmer (which he's usually in touch with given they're both USC alums and a Bengal/former Bengal hint hint), but nothing yet. I will say he was spot-on about the rumors of Marvin Lewis and TO WELL WELL before the mainstream media - think NFL Network was the first to report it - picked up on it. I'll pass on anything I hear.

Nah Bro, I take the Tom Hopkins approach, 9 things wrong, get the tenth correct, you will be a millionaire in the Sales Field..

I still have the Bengals pegged with taking Cam Newton, Brown just has a theory that you never pass on a franchise type Qb, add in Luck is leaning towards NOT coming out in this draft, and this will be an interesting offseason in Cinci.

It should be. The way Brown has traditionally operated is to wait until after the season ends to start dealing with everything. The pre-game talks I heard today, the major player personnel issues were listed as:

    1. Quarterback - do they keep paying Palmer or move/release him and what to do accordingly
    2. Cedric Benson - do they try to re-sign him
    3. Andre Smith - cut bait now (my source has offered to work with him 1-on-1 for free) or see what they really have. Rumored to have a weight in the 370-380lbs range.
    4. Dhani Jones - see Benson
    5. Secondary - in absolute shambles other than the starting CBs.

It's been pretty well hinted at in the local papers/news that Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown will sit down, again, after the last game. Apparently Brown offered Lewis a huge (at least in Bengals terms) extension earlier in the season and Lewis demanded several things be added in. He, or someone else in charge of football ops...which didn't set well with Brown at all; control over coaching hiring/firing decisions (think this is directed at Bob Bratkowski, the longest tenured assistant coach), and an improvement of the scouting dept. which has 4 paid scouts with little or no support staff (conversely I'm told New England has 26 such employees), plus the regular coaching staff. Mike Brown surely won't want that on his payroll. Their stadium sellout streak ended weeks ago, and they're already one of the bottom-feeder franchises in terms of money availability. And let's not forgot Mike Brown was one of two owners to vote no on the previous CBA, the other I think was Ralph Wilson, who at this point may not have had any idea what he was voting on...

As stated before, anything I hear with Palmer, I'll pass on.

Well, glanced at the FA list again and these names popped out at me to get the offense back on track:

-Le'Ron McClain, miscast as a FB, he is a powerful bruising runner who also is a good blocker
-Jacoby Jones, #2 Wr type who can also return kicks

Those two would plug a couple of holes, if Brad Smith hits the market he would be equal to Jones as he is more akin to a #4 Wr/Kr type, but he also could handle WC duties.

The only one of those "problems" you mention that may not be very correctable or primarily a factor of the offensive system/situation he's in is his difficulty throwing deep. IMO the biggest factor in whether we should expect anything different is whom the OC is.

I have liked Bush going back to his college days, wouldnt mind giving him a shot here. The other guy I really want that fills a huge need is Owens. That guy alone could do so much for our passing game it is not funny.

Figured this is the only place I can post this but evidently a whole host of the Raiders' pending free agents are pissed off at Tom Cable's firing, and they are vowing not to return to the Raiders.

They include TE Zach Miller, LG Robert Gallery, DT Richard Seymour, RB Michael Bush and LB Thomas Howard.

I know that Zach Miller is the super popular target but I'd take Robert Gallery and Michael Bush.

this is a nice FA class so far and if I am Miami I jump all over Bush for a reasonable price.

I'd love to get Bush and Mankins. another guy to keep an eye on is Kalil.

Well not a FA per se, but the Broncos are going to shop ILB DJ Williams this offseason, 2 DWI's in 5 yrs and a 4 million dollar number and a need for picks are putting him on the block, to me I'd like him to replace Channing Crowder if he is better in coverage.

We are already short a second rounder, I wouldnt want to trade for a drunk with another pick. He's got talent, but his head isn't on right. Would rather stand pat with Crowder, hope Edd's return will help and just beef up our anemic offense.

Miller would be an oustanding pick. If we can land a RB/TE/G trio we could really transform. Then spend the draft getting a QB in place.
