Hindsight is 50/50. Thomas looked great tonight. Lets hope Odrick looks better when he gets back on the field.

My bigger fear is Ordick never returns! That injury has a bad history of continuing to break.

The player I still wanted after trading for Marshall. Would have been a combo to rival Duper/Clayton.

Guys Dez and Earl have speed and are play makers, trifecta finds those under rocks in later rounds!

So saying they were right when Odrick missed almost the entire year? Makes a lot of sense.

Well the surgery does have a better then 60% complication rate. But hey a 3-4 de is a high priority!

Earl was a play maker this year. Dez was a poser. Yeah he had a punt return or to, but as far as a WR goes he didn't do anything to justify being a first round pick.

yeah you're right 561yds receiving and 6tds in 12 games as a rookie sucks! Especially since his injury hit him as he was catching his stride. Oh and more punt returns for TDs the the Miami Dolphins for the entire decade!

But I would much rather draft a 3-4 de with a pre-existing medical condition, that recorded more broken bones then tackles!

Thankfully, the trifecta is dead, and apparently Sparano now has some say as to who he coaches.

I'm very interested to see how the bifecta works out.

If that 3-4 DE provides pass rush (which from what I saw of him before he went down seems quite possible) from the spot and plays the run well enough we have the option of flipping Starks for a future pick or not having to spend big $$'s to re-sign him.

Koa Misi has also been a stud against the run after some early hiccups. Also has the potential to be a quality pass rusher who can provide 7-8 sacks and occasionally get double digit sacks in his career. Quality #2 pass rusher.

Earl Thomas is great for a team that needs a center fielder, but on this team he would have been asked to do a lot more in run support (where Earl has been pretty mediocre). Clemons has been pretty darn solid for a 5th rounder. Came in and got 2 forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks and an INT. Could have been a couple more if it weren't for the drops, but then this team did lead the league in dropped INT's.

All depends on what Odrick does when he comes back. Career's aren't made in the first year for those short-sighted folks.

First 3-4 de is not a pass rusher he takes up blocks to free up the olb.

Second if if if he had a pre-existing medical condition that is prone to stress fracture and it did! So we can play the what if game all off season long, but as of now the odds are against Ordrick, and Thomas is making plays in the post season.

Oh by the way Clemons sure dropped a few game changing picks Thomas makes!

I think Odrick can be a really good player, personally. He showed a lot of promise before his injury.

Back in the Lawrence Taylor days, the Giants 2nd best pass rusher was 3-4 DE Leonard Marshall. Having him lined up on the right side next to Taylor caused a lot of problems for teams in pass protection.

And there my friend is the problem with the Miami Dolphins! Tuna and company tried to rebuild the Giants of 20+ years ago! Complete with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense, and neglect of speed.

I wanted thomas,I saw some mock drafts saying we were going to take odrick at #12 and thought they were crazy because I thought defensive end was one of the stronger postions on the team.Go fiqure we trade back and take him late in the first round and then draft misi.
After one year the jury is still out and will see what happens with odrick but I sure liked thomas last year.

My point was 3-4 DEs can and have contributed as pass rushers. They don't always merely tie up blockers to free the OLB.

Do any teams two gap anymore on a full time basis? I don't think anyone does. The most I've seen it is out of Cleveland and Washington.

This is true Clean, depending on the assignment your DE's are called on to bullrush at times and other times they are the sacraficial lambs of the defense.

Jared Odrick assuming he gets healthy has a bright future as he can get pressure when needed and has a high motor.

To the topic I like Earl Thomas but no way would I trade him for Misi and Odrick.

They can, but more often then not they don't. Not to mention with how Langford and Stark were playing we really didn't need another DE we had much bigger needs. All of which is a mute point until Ordick shows he can get healthy and contribute. I need that surgery on my fib and I have researched it extensively, it has a high complication rate, and if you stress fracture around the plate it tends to open a bigger can of worms.

I like Misi, he looks like a long time starter in this league. The jury is still out on Odrick, though if he can come back healthy and stay that way, then I would also take the 2 for 1. Odrick was pretty durable as I recall, his last two seasons at PSU, so I can't go along with those who say we should have known he is injury prone. If Odrick never pans out and Thomas keeps playing like he did as a rookie, I think we're mostly going to be wishing we had stayed put and took him at 12.

I'm pretty sure that no one does it on a full-time basis. I'm almost positive. I know a lot of teams still do 2 gap but not on a full-time basis. I've seen 2 gap out of 4-3 teams and 3-4. I've seen combo-gapping as well.
