    Because if not: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6004943

We probably can't afford him but he is out there to be grabbed.

Way I've heard it, there will be an exodus out of Oakland this offseason as the players like Tom Cable.

As for SS24, of all of the players in the 2nd patriots game, he was the one who clearly had packed it in for the season after wk #16, he wanted no part of tackling anyone...I like SS24 but you will not have a Dominant Defense with a player such as he imho.

Sean Smith is developing into a fine corner. Hell he was better than Davis. If he learns to catch the ball he is gold.
CB is not a need at all for this football team.

22 players from the Raiders won't be under contract according to NFL on Sirus. I'm sure the Phins can fill at least 1 hole with that group.

I wouldn't say he would have been gold cause even if he never dropped those ints he still needs to work on other areas of his game such as tackling and playing the run, also got to wonder if Sparano is a fan of his game now it looks like he will have more say in personnel decisions because something tells me the passive manner Smith sometimes plays defense drives the coach nuts.

Either way someone else will probably pay a ransom for Asomugha's services.

I think Sean's doing fine and has improved his game.

The Jets will probably go after Asomugha or at least consider him. I know Ryan is a fan.

Can the Jets afford to have that much money and cap space tied to one position?

I'd love to have him. But try to explain that to the fanbase when you need offense so badly.

We have an equal shot at both: Zero.

Besides, for what we're paying Sean Smith, and as well as he's done, that money would be of much better use somewhere else.

He was not better than Davis. Some qbs would flat ignore throwing the ball davis' way this season. Davis didn't have a great year but he is clearly better than Smith.

Apparently one of the incentives that Asomugha's contract included was Super Bowl MVP. He did not fulfill that lol.

Smith has the potential to be better than VD. He is not there yet but he can develop into a top Cb. Definitely can....

VD did not CLEARLY show he was better this year. Both had good and bad weeks, and Smith developed nicely thru the year.

How can anyone say Vontae did not have a great year this year? He as only thrown at 4-5 times a game and some games I only noticed him being thrown at 1-2 times. I think he gave up 3 touchdowns all year, and if I'm not mistaken, Revis gave up the same number of TDs as well. Davis was incredible for us this year. Sean Smith really surprised me as well starting with the Bengals game. I think VD and SS will develop into the best CB tandem in the NFL within a season or two.

No need for Nmandi, although I love him. He's not going to be worth 16mil for us, because VD and SS hold their own well enough. What we do need is CB depth. Right now our depth chart is Vontae, Sean, Nolan, Benny, and Nate. Sapp and Ness need to go.

I swear some of you guys don't watch the games! Everytime a opposing QB dropped back I prayed please don't throw at Smith. He is terrible against any double move or in route( slants, deep ins, dig,) QBs like Brady lick their chops for Smith in man coverage. That Jet game and his 6 dropped interceptions was the epitome of he can't make a play

I'm glad you aren't the Dolphins GM. Every young player that hasn't developed into a superstar, you want to just kick to the curb. The fact of the matter is, Sean Smith played well this year when he started and Vontae played great. Why do we need to go out and buy a $16mil corner to start, when both of those guys are solid and entering only their 3rd season? We have a lot more needs than corner at this point and Smith will only grow better.

Can you read? Did I say at any point curb him? No I didn't! I said he wasn't playing near as good as people suggest and he has a lot of work todo! Jesus it is ok to actually criticize a player on your team and still be a fan. Face it we finished 0-3 at home to the Browns, Bills and Lions there is a lot of criticism to be had.

But, you talk like you want to just curb him. You are negative in every single post you make. I criticize plenty of players on the Fins. Speaking of negative...you bring up the point that we finished 0-3 at home to finish the season. But, let's not talk about us beating Green Bay or us beating the Jets or us pretty much beating the Steelers. Let's not talk about our defense improving from 24th ranked to 6th ranked in one year.

Again, I provide a decent amount of criticism to this front office and some players...but I am not going to come on here and literally complain or bash about every aspect of our team. We have some positives and we have some negatives. Hopefully the negatives will be addressed in this off season. I can tell you right now, Sean Smith should be the least of our worries after watching him this season.

Did you don't almost beat a team in the NFL you either win or lose! Even if we get the fumble it is 3 runs a punt and Big Ben gets the ball with 2 minutes. Great we beat a heavily injured Greenbay team! Right now there is nothing to be positive about! We kept our schmuck of a coach and horrible GM, they alone have a huge issue to bury this off season. Realistically after watching Sparano and his body language yesterday he isn't happy, and doesn't trust them. This off season has a potential to develop into a power pissing match between Sparanos new power and Irelands power. No I don't think they can address the problem because in 3yrs they have blown $92,000,000 in free agent and draft bust. Any other front office is shown the door with that type of failure.

Sorry if you don't like my post, but no one has a gun to your head making you read them. There is a lot of work to be done and right now history is not on he Dolphins side!

While I don't know about him being better than Davis, I do agree we do not have a need at cornerback. I like really think there is some good young talent in the DB group in general.

We have too many needs to think about replacing a young second year player with plenty of upside. If we replaced every player who disappointed this year that would mean most of the team. There is quite a few positions we will have to address soon but I don't think CB is one of them but that is JMO.

We need consistent play from the nickleback position.

That being said, I don't think we should waste money on a FA there, as we have some youth that will hopefully develop strong.

I am more comfortable with Smith at CB then I am with Davis. Davis clearly regressed as the season played out where as Smiths play only got better.

Davis also got abused several games AND as much as ppl talk about Smiths inability to tackle I personally can not remember a Dolphins CB that missed as many tackles as Davis did this year.

No, he didn't. Davis only got abused a few times all year. They both had really good seasons. And Davis is our best tackling corner and it isn't close.

grab Nnamdi & move Vontae to FS and let him become our Eric Berry. :shifty:

In all seriousness though, at CB, Vontae is currently being prevented from impacting on every play b/c teams can stay away from him. IMO he'd be ideal at FS where he'd be around the ball more often and is a tackling missile.

I can only speak for myself here. But I can tell you that if we throw the kind of money that Asomugha is going to demand at any player other than a QB I'm going to be pretty upset.
