He's saying nobody was a better fit. He's saying that the only person he spoke with to determine if he was a better fit was Harbaugh.

I have had some time to think about this. I didn't want to react right away. Did all of this embarrass me? Honestly...yes. Will I get over it....I will let you know if we start winning.

The end result to me is this. Why do you reward a coach that you tried to seemingly replace? Just for damage control I assume. Tony may never see the second year of that two year extension. If he was your guy, you never would of flown to SF. If you fired Tony and didn't get JH, you would still be respected. It shows you know what you want. Lesson learned I hope.

I know you didn't hire Tony and will eventually bring your own guys. I know you are a fan and want to win. That is a great start. Just like any business though, how you treat your employees and the culture you build will dictate 99% of your future success. Is this how you run your business...if so, the only future of winning will be with dumb luck?

Mr. Ross, I know you learned a lesson-

    - respect in the NFL, class and sound decisions within your organization is not only important around this league..... it is imperative.

agreed, hope he's learned his lesson, he seemed quite humble in there..\

check it out though, you have just witnessed your team eat patriot poop, after going 1 and 7 at home, your talking to your alumni's athletic director, and he tell's you that harbaugh wants the NFL, and that you should go after him.... tough one ya know.

    We shall see GR..

What do you see in ross in terms of the future and the way he is, can his style last, and do you see depth there to be a good owner.?

He wants to win and is willing to spend money. Ireland is the key here. Talent wins. The media can blow everything out of proportion and he did the honorable thing and addressed the issue right away. That must of been very humbling for him. I commend his quick action. Many people would of just wished it away making it worse than eating humble pie. Bottom line is it doesn't matter what we think, it really doesn't. Bottom line is winning and whether you believe it or not, Miami isn't that far off.

What makes you think he tried to replace Tony? Do you really believe that if Ross wants something he wouldn't get it?

Look, none of us here know exactly what happened, but if you put your bias, feelings, and disappointment of this season aside and instead use some rational thinking, it's easy to get the best idea of what happened.

    Occam's Razor people.

Ross was pissed, as we all were, about this season. Before he made any rash decisions he figured he would go and talk to someone who is known as being an offensive guru and the entire NFL world was harping about. He first asked Tony what his plan was in regards to fixing this team. Being that he's new to all of this, he wanted to ask a few more people what they would do in Tony's place. He asked Harbaugh, he decided that he liked what Tony said the best, and gave Tony 3 years to right this ship.

    Marinefinfan,
As long as that is what you believe. He flew there in the middle of the night before he signed with SF to ask him questions. Uh huh. No problem.

Because that is not the way it is done in the NFL. Its a closed & proud fraternity that has some unwritten rules. One of those is you respect a coach enough to not do what happened to Tony this week. If people want to think this is not a big deal, can someone please give us an example of the last time this occurred ? What coach & what team ?

Is it so hard to believe that a billionaire had a meeting in California? Is it so hard to believe that Ross wanted to see what an offensive "guru" would do if he was in charge of the Dolphins?

Again, there are people here calling Ross a "liar", or worse. Nobody except Ross, Ireland, and Sparano knows the real truth. Nobody. However, and again, if just for a minute you're able to take a step back and put all emotions aside, I think the best and closest scenario is what I wrote.

Ross was pissed. He had a meeting already in Cali, or maybe he just rescheduled the meeting to coincide with meeting Harbaugh? Again, who knows, but he met with Harbaugh and decided that what he said was nothing really different than what Sparano offered.

Bottom line, Ross is a billionaire who makes billion dollar deals. He's no dummy, he may be green to the business world of football, but he wants to make money. The ONLY way to make money in football is to create excitement for the fans and create an atmosphere of hope and expectations with winning. Period.

Ross wanted to make sure that Sparano was the right choice. As he already said, he would do things differently if he had known that the media was nothing more than a bunch of lying bags of ****, but he underestimated them. IMO, that was his only fault.

If it's "closed" how in the hell do you know about it?

The REAL facts are, billion dollar business decisions sometimes hurt feelings. It's probably true that Tony had his feelings hurt. It's also probably true that Ross, not knowing the nature of the sports media, would do things a little differently had he known.

The ONLY things we really know is that Tony Sparano is the Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins.

How do I know ? I listened yesterday to three former head coaches, 2 of them with Superbowl Rings say so. I believe them over any of your blathering idiocy. In other words when Ditka & Johnson say its not right, you should STFU.

Insults now, huh? I must have struck a nerve with my greater-than-you--have-intelligence and common sense, huh? :)

Anyhow, these "coaches" you heard yesterday, they coaching now or are they working for some media group?

When these "coaches" are led around by the nose and TOLD what they need to do in order to get ratings, guess what, Skippy, they get ratings. Mr. I-Don't-Think-It's-Right-Johnson had no problems being a part of Shula's forced retirement, why the change of heart now?

No, the real truth is that this is a cutthroat business. Real men deal in real business. Those people whining about this have never been a part of a business deal worth more than the used Ford Escort they drive or they are people in the MEDIA looking for ratings.

So, take your whining, insults, and your ball....and go home, son.

I thought I had remembered this happening, so I googled it and look what I found. haha

Jimmy Johnson interviewed for the head coaching job at Arkansas when Lou Holtz left following the 1983 season, then later found out that Ken Hatfield had already been hired. Upset that Frank Broyles (who was still the Arkansas athletic director) made no mention of this during the interview, Jimmy distanced himself from his alma mater.

You do realize you just contradicted yourself in the same sentence?

Wait, so you're telling me a billionaire is someone who makes billions of dollars??? Wow....

Its funny because you keep saying to be "rational and put emotions aside blah blah blah" yet you just swallow whatever Ross is feeding you. If YOU think "rationally" then you'd understand that Ross nor any other man is going to publicly degrade themselves to the public so how do you know he didn't have a adviser advise him on what to say? I mean he is a billionaire who makes billion dollar deals right? I'm sure he can afford it....

    No I didn't.

None of us here know EXACTLY...

    BEST IDEA....

Look up those words and you'll see that I still don't know exactly what happened, but I have an idea....

To the second part of your post...

No, not all people who make billion dollar deals are billionaires. I'm not "swallowing" anything except my own common sense and rational thinking. I've looked at all sides, put ALL EMOTION AND LOVE FOR THIS TEAM ASIDE, and came up with what I believe is a rational and fair assumption. Ross is obviously a very smart business man. I, unlike some here, do not think he's "stupid". There are 5 BILLION reasons that prove he is not stupid.

Seriously bro, either read through the post more carefully or think before you reply to a post...

I have given up ever trying to reach that guy. If there is an ignore function, he'll be the 1st person I put on it. He doesn't understand how to have civil discourse, with him it almost always devolves into name calling, & personal insults. He just seems like the type that was the schoolyard bully, and still hasn't grown up.

My bad he cancelled it after the backlash from the Harbaugh drama. Still shows he is ******ed for even scheduling a meeting with Mangini about becoming a consultant. Jesus how many consultants does a bad football team need?

Mangini once worked with Belicheat and was part of the Patriots coaching staff during their 3 Super Bowl wins.

I don't think I need to explain further...

You can live for speculation, I live for fact. And you're believing your opinion as if it is a fact. So now you go look up what opinion is.

Dont you get it? At the end of the day, unless you talk to Ross personally, none of what you think matters because its nothing more than speculation. Go ahead and create Ross' itinerary from watching the round table. You watch a video interview and believe it word for word? That's irrational. Look up that word too while you have the dictionary open. You seem to think you're so smart and you got it all figured out well then you should know one doesn't become a billionaire by being honest....

Yeah...didn't you hear? One time, Belicheat was caught cheating and he was fined (I think) $250,000, the Pats were fined $500,000 and they had their 1st round draft pick taken away.

I cain't believe you never heard of this. It was all over the news.
