To All You Dolphin Fans That Wanted To Take Earl Thomas With Pick #12

My pre-draft wish list last year:

1 - Trade down, pick up extra 2nd. Then use 1st round pick on LB Sean Weatherspoon

2nd - DT Brian Price/Cam Thomas or TE Rob Gronkowski

    2nd - FS Nate Allen

    3rd - DE/LB George Selvie

4th - RB Ben Tate or TE Aaron Hernandez

5th - WR Danario Alexander : Brandon Marshall type upside with a knee injury risk. That's the only reason a 6'5" platymaker, YAC stud, pysical when fighting for the ball, team captain with a 4.5's 40 time and 45 inch vertical is available this late. Worth the risk. Great player. Would be a steal this late. By the way, he can throw the ball too.

    6th - WR Emmanuel Sanders

    7th - QB Zac Robinson

    7th - DT Vince Oghobaase

    7th - Special Teams/Depth guy

If I recall correctly, I changed my mind about Weatherspoon and the draft neared. Didn't want him. Can't remember who I preferred, but def. wanted us to trade down. I still think Ben Tate's going to be a good back (not great) in the league, but his injury this season didn't let us see it.

In terms of Thomas vs Misi and Odrick, I agree with most ppl that it depends on Odrick's health.

    True.

I can;t imagine this defense without a SOLB better than Francis. No way we'd have ranked as highly as we did on defense.

Safeties have little impact if oppoenents can run on you at will, and hit their RBs and TE's with short passes your slow-*** SOLB can't get to to cover. Misi's hustle and decent pass drops in additional to setting the edge and a bit of pass rush were necessary, though not highlight reel stuff.

Earl Thomas can;t intercept a deep throw if the opponent doesn;t need to throw deep to move the ball.

I think that is actually Bill Parcells which in that case he hates speedy playmakers and the Miami Dolphins!

Clemons dropped 3 picks in the Cincy game alone 1 right into TOs hands. TEs killed us in critical 3rd down plays all season long, we not as bad as Smith or Sapp giving up key 3rd and longs, but close. I can't believe I am debating the hypothetical of a rookie who played this year and made a impact over one whose pre-exsisting condition landed him on the IR!

You plug Thomas into Clemons spot with the missed opportunities Clemons was responsible for and you would see exactly what I mean by "impact".

The mistake started with trading two 2nd rounders for a WR that our coach doesn't have the balls to use properly.....Marshall was a total mis-match for Sparano's type of offensive philosophy.

The question shouldn't be would you swap Thomas for Misi and Odrick....... it should be would you swap Marshall for Thomas and Misi?.....or.....would you swap Marshall for Bryant and Misi?

And keep Marshall's contract in mind..

Yep you're right he did. I made a mistake. The point is he was not a medical red flag at draft time.

Were you a part of the Dolphins medical evaluation team? No? How do you know if he was "flagged" or not?

Well, ANY NFL prospect with a plate in his leg is flagged, or should be. As flynryan pointed out, there are risks associated with this type of injury. Without going too much into my profession, I see a lot of these types of injuries. Now, the Dr's in this case must have assumed that the pro's outweighed the con's in this instance. However, there is still an above average risk involved with Odrick and if the Dolphins medical staff blew this like they blew the Culpepper/Brees thing they need to be fired.

It sure could. Hopefully he's lucky and it won't, but I have a feeling even then he won't be 100% for long.

Yeah I put off my surgery and the thing is all jacked up. I was shocked when the Dr told me about the complication rates. This will be my 9th surgery but seems to be the biggest pain in the ***!

I know Odrick was injured in 2007. The injuries I know of are broken bones in his left hand and a dislocated right ankle. That's a far cry from a broken fibula rquiring a plate. Odricks played 2008 and 2009 without any injuries. That's why he was not a medical red flag. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1117620.

The fibula makes up part of the ankle joint. When you break the fibula it exits at the bottom of the bone( the ankle joint). I will attach a link to the procedure Ordick had the plate is in the fib, the pair of screws is to put the bottom rear of the tibia plateau back in place the shear torque of the trauma pops it out. It is not a far cry from a broken fibula it is the broken fibula!

You aren't showing me anything that says Odrick had this procedure. Your link refers to a fractured ankle. My link talks about a dislocated ankle. A dislocation and a fracture are two different things.

Why are you so concerned about his supposed plate in his right leg anyway? His season ending injury was a broken bone in his left foot. He had no pre-exsisting injury there.

The injury that caused Ordick to leave the Buffalo game was stress fractures along the plate put in his fractured fibula, a injury he sustained at Penn State. The concern is that procedure has a better the 60% chance of complications. In Ordicks case he falls in that category, once the fibula stress fractures the chances it happens again are even greater. Do you see the concern? History being it happened in his first game isn't on his side, modern medicine says this will most likely continue to plague him. Those stats are not based of a human as big and powerful as Ordrick, who generates twice the force as the average human. Here is a link confirming a plate in his right leg and the stress fracture he suffered.
