I think the nail in the coffin for the Cavs was under our noses all along.

They refused to trade Hickson for Amare, when Lebron was pushing for him. They got him Jameson instead, with a terrible contract to boot. Voila.

Steve Kerr held us out until the very last minute and then took Amar'e off the table. That was two years ago (when we had Wally's expiring). Last year he started to waffle again and we moved on and got Jamison because we knew we HAD to make a deal.

Here is my defense of the Cavs' moves -

First - if you look at the plan it makes decent sense: surround LeBron with shooters and players that compliment what he brings to the table. We had shooters (Mo, Boobie, Jamison) and got the hustle big in Varajoa, and had Z and Shaq underneath for size. I'm not sure how you can fault that as a plan.

Second - It is easy as a Heat fan to look at the Cavs and say they never built a team around LeBron - but you have to remember that you had seasons where Wade was injured, and even when he was healthy he was willing to look long term as building the team for the future.

The Cavs had LeBron forcing them into a constant "win now" mode. When he signed his first extension he more or less put a gun to their head to go out and sign free agents. When Redd and others decided not to come to Cleveland they had to show Bron they were willing to spend / get players - which brought on the horrible Larry Hughes and Ira Newble, etc deals.

After he signed that extension he started going into MSG and telling the fans that the summer of '10 would be a great one and flirting with FA constantly. The Cavs had to constantly make panic moves to WIN NOW (see Jamison, Shaq, and every deal in that time frame). We had no young players due to drafting so late every year. LeBron refused to tell free agensts that he was staying which made us miss out on Artest and Barnes.

Then last summer he waited until ALL other free agenst had signed and then had "the event". Since then we lost Shaq and Z as free agenst and then suffered injuries to two of our best players in Varajoa and Boobie (not to mention Mo and Jamison have missed time).

So was he right to leave? Yes - but it was a situation that he had created for himself - no necessarily one that he was thrust into. He forced the Cavs to make the moves they did.

I think Lebron entered FA with the plan to bring in more talent to Cleveland. He pushed for Amare and he pushed for Bosh. Bosh told him flat out that he didn't want to play in Cleveland and apparently Cleveland was unwilling to do what was necessary to bring in Amare. I don't think it was until that point that Lebron realized his option was to be a lovable loser forever in Cleveland or leave and be hated, but a winner. And it was always about the decision. How he handled it (poorly) has just become the thing people point to as "the reason", but if he had handled it better than "the reason" would have been something else. Either way it won't matter. If the Heat win a championship this year the number of critics will diminish substantially. In two years, it will be limited to a few in Cleveland and a few other stragglers around the country, but most will like him again. Not that whether he's liked or not is all that important. Its just how fandom works.

Do you remember what I said last year when the Cavs got Jameson? I said it was a terrible move and could cost you Lebron James.

My reasoning was that you basically threw away contention in the summer of 10' for all of these great free agents for a modest improvement in that team. My plan was to add amare via trade, (he was expiring as well), and if not...then just go with what you have and then sell to Lebron that you could add a max free agent to pair with him.

That's better than going "allin" with Antawn Jameson..OF ALL PEOPLE. maybe had you gotten Vince Carter instead...it would have been a little more ridiculous.

My understanding was that in the summer of '09 we were in position to have enough cap space (or nearly enough) to sign a max free agent in '10 but LeBron said he wanted more help - which resulted in the signing of Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker.

I'm not arguing that the Cavs didn't provide the talent around him needed to win a championship (I know your thoughts on the Boston series and its not worth having that argument again) - but that LeBron is a major reason why this team was never built to compete long-term. It was always short-term answers because we had to always make LeBron happy.

And I know a lot of people say Dan Gilbert should have put his foot down and stood up to LeBron - but that is fairly unrealistic.

Heat had all the momentum in the world going tonight before we rolled out the patent garbage Chalmers/Jones/LBJ/Howard/Joel line up. That alone lost this game for Miami, IMO. Such a shame. He just doesn't learn....

How often do the Clippers shoot 77% in the first quarter en route to 44 points?

Heat are 21-2 in its last 23. I could care less about making LAC's season tonight. They'll be watching us in April and beyond for the next 5 years and probably longer when Blake Griffin leaves that piece of crap organization as soon as he's eligible.

We played like **** for long spurts, Clippers had their best team effort in years, we and still win this game if LeBron doesn't turn his ankle.

I don't care about losses like this. I'm only pissed about the horrible decision to go with that terrible line up when this team was on a 15-2 tear. I'm not ripping Spo though. He's made me out to be a fool and he's done a terrific job since surviving the adversity. I will just forever hate his substitution methods.

Even poor defense doesn't account for that. But yes..their defense in that 1st quarter was as bad as you can get. They then put the defense back on, but they couldn't overcome such a hole they dug fro themselves.

They actually got what they wanted offensively, especially from Bosh who had to keep up with Blake Griffin. Griffin was efficient with his 24-14 and Bosh wasn't with his 26-13..but you gotta take that everytime.

The only thing you gotta take from that game is that the heat played Griffin tough (he got one dunk and threw him to the floor 3 times) and he stilled performed.

Blake Griffin is a jumper away not only from being the best power forward in the game and the second best big in the game, but he is a jumper away from being a top 5 player in the league. his defense is weak, but that will come...guaranteed.

Like I said - Artest and Barnes wouldn't come because LeBron wouldn't commit to staying. That was the problem - we couldn't sign anyone without a commitment and the only people that are available in trades are washed up. Not to mention we were saddled with bad contracts because we had to go out and just sign anything to make him stay the first time.

One thing to note - the NBA is going to SUCK after the new CBA. Boston and LA will be too old and there will be no one to challenge the Heat. Unless there is a new super team built it is going to be boring as hell. Carmelo doesn't care - he is begging to be traded from a good Denver team to a crappy New Jersey team just for market size - he'll never be able to carry a team. Dwight Howard can't do it by himself. OKC could be decent but they are hitting that dangerous period where contracts are coming up and their picks suck - so they need to get over the hump quick.

Who the hell is going to compete with the Heat from 2012-2014?

You sound like its a done deal, Section, but far from it. KG and Perk are going to be back before month end. Lets see how the Celtics look then, shall we? Do you at least concede that their Bench is solid when they go 8-9 deep in the playoffs with Shaq, Nate Robinson (another good game last night), Big Baby and Shaq. I will give you this, the Cs are super 3pt dependent with Pierce and Allen launching all the time and Nate and Delonte (when he comes back). If they go cold, it could be troublesome. But you also have to admit the Heat have absolutely zero answer for Rondo. Few teams do.

I really don't know what you want.

I already said that the Celtics can beat Miami in the ECF's. What more do you want?

As for Rondo...nobody in the league has a answer for him. he is different. Mario Chalmers kinda owns Derrick Rose..but has real trouble with Rondo. it doesn't help that most teams give so much space for Rondo either.

What is a DONE deal IMO is that the Heat will be the TEAM to beat going forward after this year.

When the playoffs start, lets see if they pass or go for the glory and chemistry is all out of whack. Thats all I am saying. You were the one that capitalized "TEAM". We'll see how much of a team they are in the playoffs. Its easy to be a team when you play Minny and Golden State.

Changed my avatar just for you, Sect...enjoy!

By the playoffs, the Heat will be the most improved team in basketball. You GAIN chemistry as a season goes on. not lose it. So the Heat has only beaten Minny and Golden State for their 30 wins. Gotcha.

You sound..TERRIFIED, and quite frankly Desperate. As in you are desperately holding onto your last chance to win a championship with that group. Hopefully they won't die of natural causes before the playoffs.

By game three we would have wore them out, I still think we end up at Chicago in the 1st rd.

But NY isn't a good matchup for the Celts. Not that NY would win, but I have no doubt it would hurt Boston going foward if they face the Knicks.

NY is not built for the playoffs, come on Sect, step up. They play limited D and rely on a fast pace and threes, not good threes mind you. Celts step up in the playoffs. We'll see what happens, Boston may be old but they have some young players too. Rondo, Baby, Perk and Nate are far from old.

Nah, you have to give the Bulls their due. Their coach is playoff tested (as an asst) and D Rose, Deng, Noah and Boozer are formidable. They actually match up well vs. the Heat on paper anyway, LOL. Plus Noah is crazy, he may injure someone just because.

They don't matchup well with the Heat on paper, on lego's in anime, on cgi, or in origami much less the court.

. The Heat defends the 1-4 pick and roll better than anybody in the league.

. The Bulls have NO wing players to matchup with LBJ or Wade.

. Mario Chalmers has had his best games defensively vs. Derrick Rose, going all the way back to college.

. The Heat has owned them the last two years. Which team improved their roster more? You get my drift.

. Their coach is playoff tested (as an assistant, lol) ? So is the Heat's. More so actually.

The Bulls have been the most blatantly overrated team in the NBA the last 5 years.
