I pretty much feel the way about the QB's this year that Desides feels about the TE's. There is no real stand alone talent this year at the QB position. Luck was pretty much it and he's not coming out so what do you go from that?? As you say were not going to magically come up with the next Tony Gonzalez this year. I'm pretty sure were not going to get the next Peyton, Rogers, Rivers, or Brady from the draft this year either. I would try and trade down to the mid to late 20's. Pick up a 2nd rounder. Take Kyle Rudolph with our #1 and go from there. There is just no can't miss talent at the QB position this year in my eyes.
It’s true that there are no can’t-miss QBs this year. The only one would have been Andrew Luck. But that’s not to say the remaining QBs aren’t worth drafting. Like I said earlier, I’d throw a party if we drafted Blaine Gabbert. Then I’d make a beer run if we picked another QB in the 3rd round, maybe a Pat Devlin.
3rd is still to high Des, unless something changes, and it would make sense few will shuffle picks this yr, the #78 is effect our #2 pick this yr, how can they use it on a developmental Qb? Believe it or not, McCown makes sense, so would Alex Smith if they let Thiggy walk. Other problem is no UDFA's can be signed this yr until there is a CBA, which means what you have on your practice squad is in effect your UDFA class: 1 Tackle 3 Wr's 1 Qb 1 ILB
Not with our need. Absolutely not. Now, it would be nice if we used that 3rd round pick on a center or a running back, but if our first and third round picks are both QBs, I’m not losing one bit of sleep over that.
I'm not sure how taking "a QB" trumps taking the player who will improve our team the most, regardless of position. Are we trying to win games or just boot ticket and merchandise sales here? I'm also not sure why every thread on this board has to be hijacked by the Henne bashers, as if there's not enough threads on that topic already. I don't care who the QB is, until we fix our other issues, the offense isn't going to be any good. I'd like to see some speed and play making ability at the skill positions, a competent OC, and Henne with another year to show what he can do under conditions conducive to his success. If there is some (identifiable) top flight prospect at QB who could be the "franchise" then by all means... But this notion that we should take "a QB" just because we want one, I'm not riding with that.
Well Desides is correct that you can change a lot on offense in one year. Heck just look at our 2007 offense vs our 2008 offense. 2007 QB's: Green, Beck, Lemon 2008 QB's: Henne, Penny, Beck 2007 RB's/FB's: Brown, Booker, Chatman, Cobbs & Mauia 2008 RB's: Brown, Williams, Cobbs & Polite 2007 WR's: Ginn, Hagan, Cammy, Chambers, Booker 2008 WR's: Ginn, Bess, Cammy, Wilford, London 2007 TE's: Peele, Martin, Halterman 2008 TE's: Fasano, Martin, Haynos 2007 OL: Shelton, Satele, Hadnot, Ndukwe, Carey, Alabi, Lekkerkerker 2008 OL: Long, Carey, Garner, Smiley, Ndukwe, Satele, Murphy, Alleman Good or bad....offensive rosters can change in a hurry.
You really think that was the reason? Miami has a history of losing coaches, players, etc. I think some people have an aversion to the area for whatever reason... maybe its actually South Florida that makes people uncomfortable with the franchise the thought has crossed my mind that they might not like living & working in the greater Miami area, even with a state tax break & great weather
3rd rounder, for us, has to come in and contribute in 2011, a project Qb will not be that guy. That could be our starting C, starting LG, starting Rb.. We're a bit squeezed this yr Des, that is why I've been pimping Manny Arceneuex from the CFL.
The notion that we are a QB away is ridiculous, and that's the only reason we didn't score more points. You gotta have peices around the QB. Look at P. Manning when his OL and WR and TE were missing. Funny how he went from a healthy OL to backups his eyes also went from downfield to ducking DEs and DTs. That his INTs went up due to his talent around him being on the bench. Let me guess here comes the Manning is Manning nothing to prove arguments, well that really doesn't change the situation now does it? I'm sure if a future HOF QB can struggle in that situation so can a kids with a year of starting experiance. Whatever Henne's problems are it not the above, thats a team problem. The Detroit game, he went from a very good first half to all of a sudden OL shuffles due to injury, now all of a sudden its not the OL it's "he's holding the ball too long" His eyes arent down field" well how could they be when williams and Suh are suddenly in his face every pass? I'm more than willing to torch any QB that has a 5 second pocket and throws ints all day. But come on. Henne has his faults, but considering the circumstances i'm not willing to junk him just yet. A starter? that remains to be seen, but some of these rants are just unreal.
At this point, the title of your thread is just making a mountain out of a molehill....could be the guys didn't want to leave where their at ?? Could be the 'source' was guessing. Could be they don't want to hitch their rope to a team that apparently doesn't have the QB of the future ascertained...just conjecture....Tony and Jeff will make the best choice they can with what they have to work with...after all, it's their butts on the line right now anyway...and if the reports that Cowher wasn't really ready to rejoin the coaching ranks just yet due to his family situation, that bodes well for us if they [Jeff and Tony] can't pull a rabbit out of their hats....
Alot of teams get turned down by other coaches, no big deal. And how do we know it wasnt the head coach who turned down and not the individual coach himself? You all starting to ***** and overreact just as much as Finheaven.
IMO, I think they will keep Sparano for 2011 only and at that point wait until the league settles on the lockout issues and labor issues. In doing this, they avoid having a new coach come in and not being able to do anything until things are settled (no off season stuff, no free agency etc...). Once the NFL ship is righted and stable, then Ross will clean house and I firmly believe he will look at Cowher to come in. But right now any coaching changes are going tobe on a 1 year status on it's own and every coach out there knows this (IMO). So the coaching jobs available right now will be hard to sell when there is a good chance it is only for a 1 year position
