Just throwing this out there to get some discussion started. I know it's still early, but at this point in time these all seem like reasonable places to expect the players to be drafted. What do you guys think? We get a workhorse back in Ingram, a play maker out of the backfield that can split out wide in Rodgers, a very underrated QB imo in Dalton, an athletic TE in Gantt, an amazing football player in Marecic, an unheralded guard in Ziemba and a high potential WR in Gurley.

    15. Mark Ingram RB Alabama
    79. Jacquizz Rodgers RB/WR Oregon State
    110. Andy Dalton QB TCU
    143. Charlie Gantt TE Michigan State
    174. Owen Marecic FB/ILB Stanford
    206. Lee Ziemba OG Auburn
    207. Tori Gurley WR South Carolina

    Good work.

I wouldn't choose ANY RB that high in the draft unless the guy is Barry Sanders.

I don't think I'd be very happy with that draft. I don't care for Quizz, and aside from amazing stamina there wasn't anything about Maracic's game that made me think he could be very good at either FB or LB in the pros. I don't think Dalton is a good choice at QB personally. His ball often seems to take forever to get where it's going. I don't think Zeimba lasts that long, but I'd be happy if he did and we took him. I'm not a big fan of Gurley, but that late in the draft would certainly be a worthwhile roll of the dice. Ingram is a player I like a lot and wouldn't mind if we took him at #15, but I'd hope we'd explore trade options before picking him. I'm not a big fan of Gantt either, even though I do want another capable TE on this team and could live with the pick. Really, I think if Quizz weren't there or Dalton I'd be fine with that draft.

If we can't trade down, this would be my hope for a draft (used nfldraftscout.com for round ratings), of course it assumes a QB is at #15:
    15. Cam Newton QB Auburn
    79. Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin
    110. John Moffit OG Wisconsin
    143. Dion Lewis RB Pitt
    174. Evan Royster RB Penn St
    206. DeAndre Brown, WR Southern Miss
    207. Kris Adams WR UTEP

If there wasn't a QB available at #15, I'd almost want to go OL honestly. If for some reason this team went defense (boy the FO would be killed if we did  ) I want Akeem Ayers.

Edit: My sig was done before any junior declarations.

That is a solid draft "if" Newton is traded out for say Wisniewski, maybe Royster slides a bit to the 6th/7th rd, and I really believe we need a Return specialist, it kills me that we had AFC Pro Bowl Returner Mike Mariani on the radar and passed on him.

IIRC prior to draft 2010 I pimped him a bit as:

    A) Mtn West, they love players from the Mtn West and imho have a ton of confidence in their western Scout.
    B) The Paisan factor.

I think Dion Lewis or Kris Adams could return kicks. Emphasis on think lol, as I could be very wrong.

Well, from a roster pov, if they signed the CFL Returner Owens, that would free up a slot for Lewis as the #3 or #2 running back as either Moore or Wallace would no longer be needed.

Really like Lewis, hopefully he heals up in time for the combine and private workouts.

What exactly is it that you don't like about Quizz? The guy is fast, is a receiving threat out of the backfiled, can return kicks, makes explosive plays, etc. Sure, he's small and the durability concerns are there, but he's not soft. He has great heart and great playmaking skills.

Size and durability are exactly my concerns. The guy doesn't even get tackled in practice, how can I know he'll hold up to 11 weeks of NFL games and practices, let a lone 16 weeks.

Where do I sign up for that draft? I don't think I see Lewis or Royster falling that far, but it's still early so you never know.

Yea, I was using nfldraftscout's rankings. I don't see them falling that far either, but there are a lot of middle tier backs I like including (the above) Harper, Ridley, Helu, and Evans.

I just checked, and they actually have DeAndre Brown as a 5/6th rounder now when he was 7-FA this morning (I guess he was actually given a 2nd day grade by the advisory board). So I'm sure a lot of the rankings will change as we get deeper into the process.

That would be Ireland’s best draft in his entire tenure here.

At this point you could just write a script that would randomly reply to posts and complain about Cam Newton, and no one would ever notice a difference.

So, who do we hire to replace Ireland if he drafts Newton with the 15th pick? It's a guarantee that he will be fired within 3 years if we draft Newton.

Not if Ross is on board. Ireland survived Henne despite picking him, and Sparano almost didn’t survive Henne despite having nothing to do with the pick.

What will you do if we actually pick Newton? Would you stop being a Miami fan? Openly root for him to fail? Or would you secretly hope your guarantee turns out to be wrong while publicly saying we made a mistake?

    My current wishlist:

(this is if we don't trade down in the 1st and pick up a 2nd)

    15. WR, Julio Jones
    79. RB, Noel Devine
    110. TE, DJ Williams
    143. OG, Steve Schilling
    174. WR, Chris Owusu
    206. LB, Casey Matthews
    207. Tbh, I wouldn't know...Maybe a CB that could be a STs freak.

Is Chris Owusu coming out guys? If he is, do you think he will be available in the 5th-6th round range? Same with Matthews? Would he be in the 6th-7th range?

Other guys I wouldn't mind in the first few rounds:

    -RB, Ryan Williams
    -RB, Mark Ingram
    -WR, Ronald Johnson
    -RB, Quizz Rodgers
    -WR, Titus Young
    -OG, John Moffitt

Obviously a lot of these guys are going to move a lot in terms of round projection, but this would be a dream right now. Also, I've gotta watch the senior bowl, combine, and watch some tape before I can come up with a legit draft.

Trade down & get back in 2nd round, take Carimi to give us potential Pro Bowl bookends ... then draft a couple QBs & hope at least one of them pans out ... a nasty OG that doesn't regress or get injured after his rookie season would be nice also.

Of course this is all because Blackmon went back to school and broke my heart :pity:

Tired of "hoping" the most important position pans out to be honest. We have tried that , with signing secondary talent or trying to get lucky later in the draft , and , well we still are looking aren't we?

Watching the playoffs should confirm the need to address the QB position properly so we can compete at the level these teams are at , if we don't we will watching teams like the Jets every year and cheering that they lose instead of Miami winning.

I have had enough of that...far too much.

Every QB drafted was a hope ... hope that they don't turn out like Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith just to name a couple. Good QBs are not guaranteed no matter where you draft 'em ... we could pick any of the top 3 QBs in this draft and end up with a dud while someone snags a mid round QB that turns into a pro bowler .. but I know where you are coming from ...

At some point we have to try and pick a premium talent. The middle round studs are just so rare. Four teams still in the playoffs, four first round picks. Yeah they can bust, but so can any position.

Love Merecic! However I don't think we have a 6th round pick. Traded it to the Cowboys for McQuistan.

Ingram is a solid pick but we need a QB. If Quizz ran a 4.2 I would be more inclined to take him.

Agree that Dalton is underrated but when was the last time a team found their franchise QB in the 4th round?

    Gantt is a great pick.

I doubt Ziemba is still on the board in the 7th round but you never know.

    Don't know much about Gurley.

Love Kris Adams! He would be a steal in the 7th. After the Combine and everything is all said and done he will probably sneak up into the middle rounds.

I like Cam Newton. The talent is evident. As long as he can leave all the drama behind then he could be great.

Kendricks and Moffit would be great picks.

Not crazy about Lewis or Royster. And I don't think we have a 6th round pick.

    Haven't seen DeAndre Brown.

Noel Devine could be a gem. High risk/reward type player but could be worth a roll of the dice in the 3rd round.

Don't see Matthews getting out of the 4th round but wtf do I know?

Doesn't look like Owusu declared for the draft.

Well some names I'd hope we take a look at in the later rounds

Jacques Rogers Oregon I think he will get lost in the shuffle
Darrel Evans VT Williams gets all the love, Evans was solid until Williams replaced him via injuries
Chris Carter Fresno State, we need another role playing passrusher
Clay from WI, I know he has detractors but for a late round pick

hey guys first post here... i normaly just read up and follow along but today sitting in my office i decided to join and contribute

    so here goes...

i think trading down with tampa will be our best bet... we go down 5 spots to #20 and pick up their second round for our 1st 5th and 7th

#20 kyle rudolph TE Notre Dame (makes sense we need a elite caliber TE)
#51 (tB) Jonathen Baldwin WR PITT (insane size and struggled this year due to poor QB play/great opposite Beast)
#79 Casey Matthews ILB Oregon (hard worker determined physical and BLOODLINE) (he will play hard to match his family legacy)
#110 Noel Devine RB WVU (fast small back to break off huge plays out of the backfeild. we need to keep lex and cobbs)

    Free Agency feelers
    offense
RB (Deangello williams/ if healthy one of the most electrifying players available)(Jerome Harrison / Can be that change of pace back to back up lex or cobbs)
WR (Vincent jackson is unhappy with SD and what better then VJAX and Beast in on the same play)(Mike sims walker beasts college roomate?) (Braylon edwards)
TE (Zach Miller change our complete dynamic of the TE position on the fins hes young up and coming and ready)(Owen daniels- great pass catcher/ injury prone)
    OL (Logan Mankins)(Tyson Clabo)

    Defemse
DT (Haloti Ngata - Probably wont be a FA but if he is. Ross spend the money!)(Richard Seymore probably wont be a FA either but who knows with the raiders)
LB (Paul Posluszny hard working nose grinding ILB goodbye Crowder)(Barret Ruud great in coverage and tackling machine)
DB (Champ Bailey Please Ireland make one of the best DB's wish come true let him play in South Florida at FS for us)(Nnamdi Asomugah ball hawking threat)
