O'Donnell is an interesting prospect, 6'10, 344, with the frame to add 20 pds easily. Parker was a good CIS player but maybe the 4th best wr in the CFL draft class. Last yr it was Joel Reinders, a 6'6 fmr basketball player, in Canadian colleges what is happening is large BBall players are switching to football in their Jr yrs to try and have a career in football. http://www.ridleyscouting.com/ My online amigo has the insight into the Canadian Crop this season.
To me, I look at Matt O'Donnell and I'm wondering why I need all that height for a guy that has basically the same wing span as Joseph Barksdale and Jah Reid. At some point the height becomes a detriment to an offensive tackle because he loses leverage and pad level, especially a guy like O'Donnell who didn't seem to have great feet or flexibility. I say, Jah Reid all the way. That's a genuine prospect that is grossly underrated at the moment, but won't be for long.
I saw Jah Reid here at UCF many times. His has alot of upside. And Bruce Miller is a player ala Zach Thomas. He was always around the ball and making plays here at UCF this year. The light has come on for him.
Great write-up! Very entertaining read. I am particularly interested in: Patrick Devlin, Nathan Enderle, Scott Tolzien, Vai Taua, Evan Royster, Cecil Shorts, Aldrick Robinson, Charles Gantt, Jordan Cameron, Virgil Green, Jah Reid, Joseph Barksdale, Dontay Moch, and Jeron Johnson.
Well, every Oline coach thinks they can work with a player with tools, and O'Donnell would come cheaply enough, a camp invite or practice squad contract.
This was from the Day 2 Practice Report for the Shrine game from the Draftinsiders blog (sorry Universal). I found it interesting.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ine-players-to-watch-20110119,0,5311610.story Ten players to watch at the Shrine Bowl, the interesting thing to me is Tyrod Taylor is a ringer for Mike Tomlin. I really like Evan Royster, I can see him in that 5th-7th rd range, and Royster would be polished enough at things such as blitz pickups. Sounds like a good value imho. Like the sound of Bruce Miller as well, UCF DE back to back CUSA DPOY honors, he could be a later round steal in a draft class packed with good prospects on Defense.
Day 3 per Draft Bible: http://www.nfldraftbible.com/East-West-Shrine-Game/ David Arkin sounds interesting, small college Guard. Day 2: Cameron also sounds interesting
Well, maybe Cameron is a less hyped Jimmie Graham? As for O'Donnell, clearly a project, in a normal yr he would be a camp invitee and stashed on the practice squad, this yr he will cost a draft pick which to me, unless a team has several late round picks, means he will go as a UDFA, whom cannot be signed until there is a CBA. Meaning he will probably head to the CFL as some money is better than no money. Is Danny Watkins there Alen?
Lestar is a very big and impressive looking prospect, and while he does make a play every now and then that has you intrigued, he measured in with small hands and played like it. He didn't secure the football well at any point in the week and his routes were very rough most of the time. He did every now and then run a good one, I can think of a nice TD over the middle during one-on-one DB/WR drills where even the DBs Coach that was trying to coach the DB had to just chalk that up to a good throw and a good catch. He showed some strength to get off the line. But again, he looked very rough overall, not one of the WRs I would highlight. Heading into it, I really wanted to see what he had, I just came away more disappointed than excited.
By the way I don't know who wrote that "10 Names" sun sentinel piece or what they were basing it on...but he certainly wasn't basing it on the practice week.
When are you guys(universaldraft.com) going to update player rankings for 2011? edit: just saw boomers top 100..
Enderle is an interesting QB prospect. I mean, you look at him and he's got the size you want, and plenty of arm. However, when I watched him play against Boise State he looked like he was completely out of his league.
