Dixon was a Guard who moved out to Left Tackle for us, which makes him unique as one of the drawbacks to CFL linemen is they typically play one position only.

Bourke had spent some time in the NFL as a Guard prior to heading north.

Eh, really hope Sparano has a vote of Confidence quickly as without it, there really cannot be any offers made on 1/3.

Actually Padre OLineman tend to be versatile in the CFL , with the roster ratio , 18 games , 3 games in short order , you have a lot of movement for some teams , some seasons.

Chad Owens tried out for the Jets on the same day Manny Arceneaux did.

He ran a 3.95 shuttle and 6.71 cone. That is among the best pair of agility times I've ever seen.

Good bit of info, the Jets were more aggressive than the Phins were this past offseason they brought in maybe 5 players from the CFL and are even starting the UFL's DPOY vs the Bills Isaiah Trufant.

And that is the thing with a coaching/front office shakeup, all these moves that can be made now, are put onto hold, especially if a "name" guy is coming as they generally lord it about like an emperor and everything comes to a standstill.

Found some vids on Hunt and Manny A:

In this one, what stands out to me is Hunt is doing the wrong sort of work, aside from the tire flipping, he really should be working on his explosiveness and not jerking around with pounding tires (imo) as his meal ticket is passrushing, but this is sort of par for the course for CFLers (though I am unsure when that vid was made) as they more or less are self directed, that and to me he looks somewhat underdeveloped physically

    MannyA:

No fancy gyms for these guys, in that sense Wake's time as a personal trainer was a real advantage as he had 24/7 access to modern facilities, Manny A's part time gig was as a Teacher.

Guy I'd love to take a look at Martell Mallett:

What interests me about Mallett is his improvement on every level, he led the SWAC in Rushing, then won CFL ROY and he has nice hands out of the backfield.

He has not been signed as of yet, but is reportedly close to being signed:

At least he is running well, but heard some chatter about he was having trouble with the NFL style of running routes.

First CFL to NFL signing this offseason, a TiCats official expects 10-12 CFLers to try and make the jump.

And Geoff Tisdale a TiCats Db worked out for the Eagles, which is odd as he was toasted regularly in 2010

The Dolphins were one of four teams to work out Chad Owens:

    -Jaguars
    -Bucs
    -Dolphins
    -Jets

Of the 4, his agent reported that he is working on a deal with NYJ.

great thread Pads. Only had time to look at Hunt. I'll check the rest later.

I think Hunt would be like a faster, less powerful Chris McCoy, whom we tried to develop. I think we Practice Quadded him then let him go. Where McCoy could hold up better in the run game than Hunt, I think hunt's speed will let him be more 'special' and possibly crack the roster. The key, as always, is special teams. Can he play STs at a high level and how is his tackling? Could carry him as an eventual rotational backup to Cam Wake and/or 4 front End on long passing downs. His upside ceiling is 2nd string though, from what I'm seeing.

Thanks man, this is some obscure work to be doing when compared to the onslaught that is the NFL Draft so thanks for at least looking through this stuff.

Way I see it, there are hundreds of people who are solid guys reviewing the prospects for the NFL Draft, but less than even 5 who do anything with CFL to NFLers..so this is my niche..:shifty:

Let me say though, some CFL positions translate to the NFL some do not:

    Do:

    Passrushing DE
    ST players
    Running Backs

    Do not:

    Lineman offensive or defensive
    Wr's
    Qb's
    Db;s (usually)

Think some guys can be 13mm sockets to use on 1/2 inch bolts, some are 17mm players who do not really fit anything that they do in the NFL.

    Bills sniffing as well:

Green had a shot with the Jets, Fantuz reportedly ran a 4.77 in tryouts for the Vikings

Nah disagree on Hunt, McCoy was a raw DE who played in a small conference and was sort of wet behind the ears, Hunt has succeeded at a high level where ever he has played, as a Senior he led CUSA in Sacks, in the CFL he led the league in Sacks by 4 and had 11 straight games with a sack, that is the sort of consistently high performance to look for, Hunt did not go to the CFL and "fit in" he went to the CFL and did the same things he did in College.

To me, there are reasons for that consistency.

Because he has talent and is a good player who wants to improve, many is the player who headed north with a nice resume who flopped as their resume does not mean a damn thing.

In the CFL, here is the deal, they recruit you, if you sign, it is for 500 bucks a week, you have 1 week or about 3 practices to show you belong, if the Coach does not like you..out you go with your severance package being "1 apple and a map".

Show you belong then you stay for about 45k, Hunt soaked that up without a single complaint, and as he did in CUSA he got better every yr, THAT is a talented player who performs at every level he was shown an opportunity to perform..which along with his nice quickness is why I'd love to have him in Miami, turn him over to Mike Nolan and say "Dumervil him".

Honestly do not know as Winnipeg's ST's were awful but like in the NFL it is hard to tell who screwed up or if he was even out on the field for the disasters.

Edison was a Wr I liked coming out, but iirc he was injured often.

This also could mean the Seahawks have dropped out of the running for Manny A, or they are using this for leverage on him.

Nothing, the only 2 CFLers to sign in the NFL are:

Andy Hawkins Wr Alouettes signed by the Rams
Mark Resetilli Lb Eskimos signed by the Dolphins

With GM's at the Shrine Bowl, who knows what will happen?

The Option yr window closes in mid February, if a CFLer is not on a roster or under contract by then they have to play for their CFL rights holder in 2011.

Vikes will get a good value from Hunt as compared to Edwards looks like we are out of the CFLer market more or less this season.

But I'd suspect with the Jets season over things will heat up in the Chad Owens sweepstakes.

Best situation, like Wake coming to Miami when we had a 33 yr old Will, in MN Rice is a FA, Berrian disappointed for big money, and Camarillo is not the playmaker Manny A could be, add in newbie HC Frazier is a Alcorn State Alum and it makes sense.
