Apparently, you've been watching the Dolphins TOO LONG and no one else. It's hilarious that you find it "delusional" when in fact teams around the NFL do it EVERY year. It's not whether or not a team "can do it"; it's whether or not a team "attempts to do it". We went offense skill positions with 4 picks in the first 5 rounds in 2009. None of them were playmakers and MANY of us knew it at the time they were drafted. Do you know how many playmakers we passed on in 09 alone? It was a freaking lot!!!!! We could've easily done in 09 what I'm referring to doing this draft, so I'm sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about. It's only fantasy if the players don't exist in each round.... but maybe you're one of these delusional people who think that playmakers only exist in the first round.
We need a QB first and foremost. I think we have a few guys who can make plays when given a good opportunity. A couple more would certainly help though, youre right. Especially at TE and RB.
Eh, with no CBA which means no OTA's and MiniCamp, a newbie Qb is going to be looking at a steep learning curve, not saying maybe one should be looked at, but if we go Qb at #15 our draft is reduced to rds #3-#7 and our 5 picks.
Youre exactly right. We passed on so many playmakers it was sick. We devoted an entire draft to defense, and our defense was much better. But, we need to get a QB, then attack this draft with the idea of getting playmakers at TE and RB, sprinkled in with some competent interior linemen.
Much better and I highly doubt the CBA is signed before the draft. The owners are going to make the players call their bluff. I still don't like Tyrod. In that spot, I'd rather take a flyer on someone who might not get drafted but will instantly be a threat on returns. Skaky Smithson averaged 20 yards a punt return and has great size which means he'll probably be able to withstand punishment. Also if you take a flyer late on a Rb, I'd like to go with a Da'Rel Scott
If Rudolph doesn't check out physically, then I'd be all for trading back and going Pouncey, Wisniewski, or Ryan Williams first..... but if he checks out, then I have a hard time passing on a franchise TE for a top Guard. I try and look at the next 10 years rather than 1 year out. IE: The Guard might meet an immediate need, but how does a franchise TE impact your team over the long haul verses said Guard. We might be better off next year by drafting a guard early, but a franchise TE might make us better off overall in years 2 through 10. Who would you rather have for 10 years? Anthony Gonzalez or Logan Mankins? Plus franchise TEs are tougher to come by, especially ones who have the potential to do it all. If we needed a LT, then I'd be all for making sure we get the best available...... but dropping everything for a Guard? I just don't support that idea. As for the rest, I didnt say draft "all" WRs and 1 QB. We can get a very good back in the 3rd where the draft is deep at the position.... and I'd be shocked if we couldn't grab another back and guard in FA after teams have already addressed their needs via the draft. For me personally, Jerrel Jernigan is arguably the most explosive playmaker this draft (which we need), and Greg Little is this year's Mike Williams. I'd organize my draft around those 2 guys with Jernigan going in the 2nd (if we can trade back) and Little going in the 3rd or 4th. IMO there's no one in the late 2nd who would impact our team as much as Jernigan, and IMO there's no one else available in the 3rd-4th round who would help transform our offense as much as Little would with the pick. So for me that leaves the 1st and 3rd pick to use on either RB, LG, or TE. TE is weak this class so my only real option here is grabbing a potential franchise TE in the 1st if I want to stay with Jernigan & Little. (Lance Kendricks is possible in the 3rd but I wouldn't count on him being there at our pick). If we're going to more spread formations, then I'd think that a pass catching #1 TE would be extremely valuable b/c of our ability to move him all over the field to create mismatches, including keeping him in tight to run block. Plus a premium TE like Rudolph would allow our offense to become much more dynamic than any LG could. Again, I think we're trying to nitpick too much on the interior Oline b/c bringing in playmakers can make a lot of problems go away. We can bring in all the Oline and RBs we want, but the bottom line is we still need to score.
