According to GM Ireland Miami will attempt to trade down acquiring the #2 pick they gave up to Denver. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...sweblog+(Miami+Dolphins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)
Well if this has anything due to interest in Colin Kaepernick as I recently suggested, then AWESOME!....but that still won't solve our problem with the running game. That's not to say guys can't be found in later rounds or as UDFA's (LeGarrette Blount), but as a rational person, I'd obviously prefer a sure thing. If we do, in fact, trade down, I'll have my fingers crossed that we can land DeAngelo Williams in free agency.
Ireland did not say they were going to try to trade down... thats the assumptions of the reporter... all he said was we were going to try to acquire one...
Well he does point out that until the CBA is reached, only pick-for-pick trades can be made. According to this Draft Value Chart, we couldn't get a middle second round pick with the rest of our draft. The only other option than trading down from our first would be to do something like someone's 2nd round pick for our 3rd, 5th and next year's 2nd, which is debatably even worse. This is 100% speculation on my part, but how about: Miami Dolphins receive: 1st round, 25th overall selection 2nd round, 57th overall selection Seattle Seahawks receive: 1st round, 15th overall selection The motivation for Seattle? Local hero Jake Locker. There's a lot of different directions we could go with the picks, so I think the deal makes sense for both parties.
if the CBA is in place, you can trade a player, you can trade next years 1... there are other options... i just hate when things get twisted, a GM says we would like to re-acquire our 2nd round pick... then all of a sudden in 2 weeks you hear people saying, well Ireland said himself he's trading down in the first round... when thats not true at all...
Kaepernick is not the same a White .... White was short, frail and a waste of a pick .... Kaepernick has the height and could surely add weight. It is so very doubtful that he would go in rd 1 regardless of how good he does in workouts or the Senior Bowl .... he'll be a 2d/3d at best. I like the kid, but not sure i'd spend more than a 3d on him.
clearly, Ireland stated his goal was to get the pick back .... no doubt about it .... until the CBA comes thru - draft picks are the only way around it; so seems logical. personally, i don't think a deal gets done until AFTER the draft -- to put pressure on the players ... and lowers FA $$$$$ for the owners. IF for some reason a deal gets done, the only way we trade for a potential 2d rd pick is with Starks or Carey .....
Oh boy. I hope Ireland doesn't have such tunnel vision about getting a 2nd round pick that he ignores a potential franchise QB (if one exists) at pick 15. And we all know how 2nd round QBs have done for us, or any other team historically in the past. Just great.
Picking 15 is not a sure thing...However, if someone slips, then we could be in a decent spot to move down and recoup that pick...either way, we're not likely to get a blue chipper, but a hopefully (and it's a must) that the guys in the 1st and 2nd rounds be contributors right away...
Sounds great, the only thing that sounds better is if they deal Henne and a few other bozo's to do it.
Considering Ireland was not the reason for the Pat White pick and was never sold on it apparently, it was quitter Parcells by the way, I actually trust Miami with a 2nd round pick this year.
Well, he can try to acquire one, but there are only 2 teams with additional #2 picks, SD and NE, so unless he moves completely out of Round #1 or they value a high #3 pick as if it were a late #2, this just isn't happening.
Why does it have to be with a team that has an additional 2nd round pick? There might be some team late in the first that would part with their 2nd to move up for someone they covet.
I don't like to draw attention to previous posts of mine, but a team tempted to move from the late 1st to mid 1st could trade their 1st and 2nd (I suggested Seattle). We did something similar just this past year with San Diego.
Well a trade down is one of two ways you would acquire the 2nd round pick correct? It is the most likely scenario for doing so as well IMO. Don't know why speculation about one option to reaquire a pick out of a grand total of 2 options to do so has irritated you so much. I for one support a trade down strategy as well. Call me very skeptical of the 1st round rated QB's some are crossing their fingers for. If they really feel "that guy is there" fine but I worry about Ireland and Sparano "reaching" to be quite honest. Their reported infatuation and focus on finding an "athlete" first and foremost for the QB position troubles the hell out of me. I think the best move is moving down if we can. Farm 2 picks out of the second round and fill 2 needed positions with some strong prosepcts.
Draft Plans Agree, Seattle would be a good draft partner. However, I don't think Jake Locker will be there at #15. I think the top (4) QB's will be gone by #12 with Minnesota. I have Locker going to Washington. But who knows. Another alternative I thought of goes heavy on the offensive line which I think is a big part of the problem. It goes like this: Vernon Carey to Dallas for their #40. Phillip Merling to Carolina for #97. Miami Trade with The Giants for #19 (1) & #83 (3rd Rd). My draft would look like this: #19--Stefen Wisiewski-C/G-Penn State #40--Leonard Hankerson-WR-Miami #79--Kendall Hunter-RB-Oklahoma State #83--Greg McElroy-QB-Alabama #97--Lee Ziambia-ORT-Auburn #110-John Moffitt-OG-Wisconsin #143-Evan Royster-RB-Penn State #174-Schuylar Oordt-TE-Northern Iowa #206-Alex Wujciak-ILB-Maryland #207-Quentin Davie-OLB-NorthWestern #???-Comp Pick-Derrell Johnson Koulianos-WR-PR-KR-Iowa
Does anyone know for sure that the draft is on if a new CBA hasn't been reached. I haven't seen otherwise, but I thought the draft was part of the CBA, so I don't understand why it would be held if there isn't a CBA in place. Please excuse me if this has been addressed somewhere else.
Can't do that until a CBA is signed with the players & their reps. No trading of players in the league.
Ireland gets all of the credit and none of the blame. Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan.
