Looks like Ike Hilliard will indeed be the new WR's coach. And the staff looks to now be complete.

Unless Todd Bowles is named defensive coordinator in Arizona.

Well do you think people would be happy with someone that has zero experience ? its like a no brainer

we need someone who can help out our Qb that being henn or bringing in someone.

With this slew of inexperienced or unsuccessful coaches, I think we're seeing a lame duck effect, despite Sparano's recent extension. No one worth anything here wants to be here for a one year position, so we make do with the bottom of the barrel.

Yeah, DaBoll is the one who will make or break Henne this year, as well as our O and our season. I believe Dorrell, being overly familiar with our WR's, will help Henne in seeing what they see, want, and need. JMO

So, Dorrell is finally going to make Henne believe pass that are 10 feet high cannot be caught and that bounce passes do not count ?

I know this move is making everyone scratch their heads...made me scratch mine at first too, but then I gave it some thought...

Yes, we all know that Brian Daboll will be the ultimate one who holds Henne's career in his hands. As for Dorrell being the QB's coach, this MIGHT make some sense in a diabolical Dr Evil kind of way...

    Quarterbacks throw to...wide receivers.
Dorrell having been the WR's coach for the past few years already knows how Hartline, Bess and Marshall think and what they are going to do going downfield.
Dorrell MIGHT be effective in coaching that in to Henne's head..."This is what he's going to do...so anticipate it...even if you don't see it...it's going to happen"
(Or at least that could be the thought process behind this move)

Sugar or schidt...that's what this move is going to ultimately end up being.

That was my thinking as well, especially with Marshall, kind of a bridge for DaBoll and Henne more so than a "QB coach." We shall see.

Yeah, gotta get him off that basketball mentality, unless it's a 10 foot lob pass at the crossbar for a dunk. LOL

He was a head coach at a major university, I think he knows something about the qb position, plus I think daboll will be working a lot with qb's.

yeah i agree. Ross made the boneheaded move of boneheaded moves by looking for another coach but failing to bring one in. He should have either shut up and let everything play out for another year or he shouldve fired sparano and changed coaches. This scenario now is just trying to make the best of a bad situation

So the guy who formerly instructed our WRs how to not catch the ball, is now going to help develop / teach our young QBs...

    ...what could possibly go wrong?

the problem i have with it is .... what exactly did he do with the WRs we've had .... has he truly made a difference with Bess or Hartline ??? Ginn was a lost cause - because he didn't have mental toughness, you can't fix that. But list the success stories the Dorrell has created at the WR position (Welker/Bess), to then give some indication that he has the ability to do something with a different position.

I am in favor of whatever stops this revolving door of players and coaches. The best teams have players and coaches that gel together as a unit and not act like a bunch of singular individuals wearing the same colored jersey this month.

When we figure this out our team will be better for it. I only hope that this time we get people in the right positions long enough to actually build a winner and stop this endless finger pointing and bickering.

One way or the next we will either figure this out or end up being the laughing stock of the NFL. (if our owner isn't already by chasing uninterested coaches across the country and stringing our current coach along for the ride)

Actually, thats EXACTLY what I think. If we hired Jim Harbaugh, most of the board would've been jumping for joy and I've seen countless posts about how Chad Pennington (zero experience) would make a good QB coach. Which is just as ignorant as assuming Karl Dorrell won't be able to do the job, despite having 22 yrs in and being a one time HC. Brian Daboll was a defensive assistant when he entered the league, now he's an OC. Mike Nolan was a WRs coach in Baltimore, he's now a pretty good DC. Just b/c a guy hasn't held a specific title doesn't mean he lacks the knowledge to do it. I have no idea whether Dorrell will make a good coach, but I'm not going to go all Chicken Little about it. I'll leave that to others.

I complete agree with the jim debate but

On the subject of chad ,coaching makes sense since he played the position and was pretty good at it.

I just feel we needed too bring more experience coaches and we have not done that.

I feel another bad season brewing and i sure hope im wrong.

Honestly why wouldn't there be questions?

If I'm in this organization realizing how important the QB spot is and how much the QB spot is up in the air, I'm looking for an experienced QB coach.
Henne is clearly on the bubble and in need of solid mentoring moving forward if were going to get anything out of him. So we send him to a WR coach?
Mind boggling to me.... at least on the surface.
I imagine Daboll will be the one really working with Henne if they plan on putting the time into him at all.

Can't say I agree with you there.
Pennington's strength in playing the position has been the cerebral side of QB'ing. He is known to prepare well and make very good reads which has helped him overcome his physical shortcomings. He has also shown great interest in helping to "coach up" or "mentor" young QB's that have played with him. You're pairing coacing skills with knowledge that comes directly from playing the game. There are a lot of signs Pennington would be a very strong position coach.

For position coaches that deal much more in teaching base skill sets directly relating to the position I'd argue it's a highly important consideration that this coach has been coached at and played the position at one time.

I agree, I think Chad could make a good coach, but its just a guess. I'll take a good coach over an experienced one any day. Dan Henning had tons of experience, how'd that work out?
