I don't see anything there from Kiper that is earth-shattering. His inconsistencies are what's irritating. With that said, there are other needs that go along with finding a QB. It's no secret that the year we had consistency there, 2008, was the last year we went to the playoffs.

I don't need to spend the #15 pick on a QB to feel like we addressed the position. I just want a solid pick up to come in and compete against the guy. If Henne wins, he wins and he's the QB. However, handing him the starting QB job again because of the investment made and because he's the best option on our team, isn't the route to take IMO. There needs to be some solid $$ invested into that position via FA, Draft, or Trade.

It comes from a decade of futility in trying to still replace the spectre of #13, and it comes from seeing other teams in the NFL finding their QB's.

I love it. People haven't given up on the Henne bashing yet. It is obvious he will get his shot.
I know that drives you haters crazy. Looks like we won't be wasting a draft pick on a QB with the #15 either.
At least threads like this give those pissed off whiners someplace to loiter.
Says the hater "Yail I got's 1200 posts at the phins but 1150 are about me telling them bastards that Henne sucks. I gets them suckers good everyday prolly."

Your talking about the frustration of not finding a top QB.

This has nothing to do with the overall shape of the entire roster.
Sure we need to find a franchise QB. Agreed. I've been one screaming we do so since the later years of Marino.
Does not mean the team is a top QB away from being a champion however.
It wasn't just the QB spot that was ravaged all these years of mismanagement.
The entire roster was raped of talent throughout the last decade.

We have more issues to becoming a complete team than just QB.
That's why people claiming the only thing wrong with this team is Henne causes others to snicker.

Because you probably don't want to see a flat footed, robotic, inaccurate statue of a QB make the same maddening, hair pulling, vomit inducing, bad plays that he made all last season.

I disagree that Henne is inconsistent. His results have been inconsistent, but his throws and his decisions are very consistent at least in Miami. An example of what I mean is the Detroit game this year. In the first half everybody is praising him and saying he's had a good game and after the second half he's a bum. The results were certainly different. He had a 1 TD and 0 INTs in the first half compared to 0 TDs and 2 INTs in the second. But if you actually evaluate the throws and the decisions he played about the same each half.

Yes, playing one good half against Mighty Detroit gives me confidence in the kid. If you remember, things went down hill and fast when we had to take Incognito out of the center position. McQ moved to RT and Suh beat the piss out of him and Jerry, badly.

Henne's Detroit game was on Par with his Jets game from 2009. Yes, he was THAT good in that game. I'm not faulting him for the picks as he had Bess screwing him over on one throw and Mickey Shuler's inexperience screwing him on another.

Anyone who thinks Chad Henne will ever be an upper tier QB is kidding themselves. At most, as Kiper said, he'll be servicable. And no, not Eli Manning servicable, more like Derek Anderson servicable. I am resigned, at this point, to suffering through a crappy 2011 and hoping we can wind up with Luck in the 2012 draft, because there's no one worth taking in the first round this year and there's no point throwing any more second or third round picks at also-ran QBs.

and your mentality is the reason we've been sifting through trash the past 10 years rather than letting a young guy develop. If we ditch Henne now, we'll be right back to that same ole carousel.

I find the irony of it humorous...... that you complain about the past 10 years but are looking to do exactly what will cause us to repeat it.

And anyone who thinks we need an upper tier QB to win a SB is kidding themselves. Some people have to accept the fact that, no matter how badly we enjoy watching a guy like Marino shred defenses week after week, we simply may not find another elite QB for YEARS...... just as most teams go years without finding one.

It's a simple law of supply and demand. There are 32 teams always hoping to find a top 5 QB........ with only a handful of those guys to go around every 10 years or so.

Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson. These are all the QB's that have played in the last ten Super Bowls. Brady has won three, Bress won last year, Big Ben has won two (could be three in a couple of weeks), Peyton won his a couple of years ago, and Eli beat the 18-0 New England Patriots. Dilfer and Johnson rode All Universe defenses to win theirs. What's the point, you ask? Only this, Dilfer and Johnson are exceptions to the rules, and the truly great teams win with ELITE signal callers. The proof is in the pudding. Serviceable quarterbacks get you to 7-9 and 8-8, and if playing to a higher plane of mediocrity appeases you, then so be it.

Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Cassel are all serviceable QB's and all did better than 7-9. That's just this year. Hell when Peyton win his SB he played against the Bears and Rex Grossman. Last I checked Rex isn't considered an elite QB in this league....not even a starter actually

Where was I when Eli Manning (24 INTs this year) became an elite QB? I coulda swore that it was the Giants defense that beat NE. Held em to 14 points, or was Eli playing DE in that game as well?

Roethlisberger is far from elite. He threw for a whopping 133 yds, with 2 picks and 0 TDs last week. Then he converts 2 3rd downs late in the game and he's a hero. Mendendall and the defense won that game, not the QB. This is a week after Baltimore shut the Steelers down until the Henne bashers' favorite QB, Flacco, started throwing lobs right to the defense and fumbling snaps. By the way, who was that fumbling a snap in his own end zone last week? And do you really want him wandering around South Beach all off season with his er, history? I don't.

Yeah, because the two SB teams this year don't have top-tier QBs...oh wait, yeah, they do.
Well, the two SB teams LAST year didn't have...oh, no, actually they DID.
Well, back in 2009, the two SB teams...wait, yeah, they had Rothlisberger and Warner, didn't they?
Back in 07, only one team had a top-tier QB, the Colts...and they beat the Bears pretty handily.
In the last 10 years, I can only think of two teams that won the SB without top-tier QBs, the Bucs and the Ravens, and both of them had INCREDIBLE defenses, the kind that don't come around much in NFL history.

Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers & Rivers dude. They are the top tier QBs, the top 15 %. Roethlisberger is in the next tier with Vick, Romo, Cutler, Schaub, etc. He is not elite, at all. But he plays for the Steelers, who went 3-0 with Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch playing QB. They have the league's number one defense, and if Roethlisberger was down here you'd be bashing him and crying about he sucks b/c you dont quite grasp the concept of TEAM.

It's foolish for anyone to be attributing team accomplishments to one player, as if the Super Bowl will be #12 vs #7. It's not that simple, but the media types like to dumb things down so that the explanations fit into soundbites, and so that casual fans can keep up.

I seriously cannot believe what I am reading right now. How many of those second tier QB's could make this throw in the biggest stage in all of football?

OR

How about this game vs. the Packers? Three seconds left, 4th quarter, game on the line.

Anybody that says Roethlisberger isn't "elite" has no clue about the game of football.

Please tell me you're joking. Brady, Manning, Rivers, Rodgers, Brees. Which one is NOT better than Ben? I'd say none of them. So unless you want to include 20% of the league in "elite" status, I'm afraid Ben is stuck in the "good" category. More than good enough to win a Super Bowl, but not elite.

I like your choice of vids. Why didnt you post Eli's throw to Tyree or the sluggo to Burress to show how elite Eli was? A handful of plays may be all it takes to convince people like you that a QB is elite, so I guess Ben can be elite in Xpocalypse's world. I also like how Ben is elite b/c he's on his 3rd Super Bowl. He must be three times as elite as scrubs like Dan Marino. Marino's sorry *** only made one, and he lost, so he's just as un-elite as elite as Kerry Collins, Chris Chandler, and all the rest of the 1 and done QBs.

My advice. Stop using Youtube to make your QB ratings and try DVR or Game Rewind. It might cut down on the number of silly things you say tremendously.

This is the last thing I'll say, you're ignorance is giving me a headache. It's not about Ben being better, it's the fact that Ben is already AMONG those QB's you mentioned. Ben is not a second tier quarterback no matter how hard you try to sell yourself on the idea. Ben is in the class of Brady, Manning, Rivers, Brees, Rodgers, etc. Ever heard the saying, "the stats lie?" It's not pretty with Ben, but he wins. He WINS football games, and win the ones that count the most. Or does that not matter anymore? Have most of you become so desensitized by mediority that you've forgotten what winning looks like?

Seriously, that's what it has to be because there's no logical reason for this over the top homerism for Chad Henne.

Dude, how many elite, damn good & good QBs are there? By definition elite is the best of the best, but you wanna include everyone and their mom. In academia, the top 5 or top 10% is generally considered elite. In college football, the Top 10 (5 BCS games) is considered eilte, out of 120 teams. So, lets use the top 10% as elite, that's 3 QBs in a 32 team league. I stretched it to 5 to try and help you out, even though top 15% is considered elite just about nowhere.

So if there are 3 "elite" QBs, is Ben one of them? Not even close. Only if you widen "elite" to include anyone with a nice Youtube highlight does Ben become elite. Speaking of which, did you see the run by Lynch a few weeks ago, vs the defending champs. You gotta let a guy into Xpocalypse's elite club after a great play like this:

Why do you even care? System QB, that's funny. Please tell me when Baltimore decided to switch to the spread or the run n' shoot? Cam Cameron runs the Air Coryell/Ernie Zampese offense that a lot of professional football teams run as well. If that makes Flacco a "system QB" then it guess means Philip Rivers is a "system QB" as well since Norv Turner runs the same type of offense. You guys are too much.

Here are my "elite" quarterbacks in the NFL: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers

Six quarterbacks, only six quarterbacks. Now, does that look like "everybody and their mom?"
