I haven't used any true resources (book, magazines) to help. I've actually been doing this long enough where I track all of the calories in my head. A lot of websites will have nutritional information provided so that helps too. Places like Starbucks, Wendy's, Boston Market, Popeyes, Chipotle, Einstein's Bagels, Jimmy John's, etc.. The tough part is when I eat at a place that doesn't have their information provided. The best thing to do with places like that is just be careful and not overeat stuff you know isn't going to be 100% good for you. I do sometimes eat unhealthy stuff. Today I had 2 slices of pizza for lunch and last night sweet and sour chicken from our local chinese joint. The key for me though at least is to not do that every single night. After work today I'll be at the gym to lift for an hour and if I had time today, I'd do my 45 minutes of cardio (which I burn up to 400-450 calories each time).
That's Sunny Isles Beach, or North Miami Beach. Newport Beachside Resort is where I usually stay in Florida
Cool thread. I'm almost the same size as you . I'm a Tad shorter at 5'10 and when I started my diet 1/1/11 I weighed 256. Today I'm at 246 and I seem to have plateaued . I think the hardest part of my day is the morning. I've never been much of a breakfast person and I am in such a hurry. I'm really gonna try to kick it up a notch and I found this thread inspiring. My Goal is to get down to 200, maybe even 195. Be the first time in around 20 yrs. At 44 yrs of age its getting harder , not easier thats for sure.
ive hit a wall.....been hovering around 220-224 for weeks....after being 293...im not complaining, but im not where i want to be yet. i want to be about 195....so my wife and i are joining a gym soon. If anything, id like to get to 195 and jump to about 205 after lifting/muscle gain....heres hoping!
I was at a high of maybe 260ish, now down to 246 mostly just from dropping beer and liquor and not eating after 7pm.
Thats been a huge problem for me. I don't drink or smoke, But after a hard day I really look forward to kicking back and well.........eating. I've recognized its more of a mental issue and I'm trying to work through it. I have no problem skipping breakfast and not eating until Lunch. I'm busy and couldn't care. But at night when I want to relax.........I'm in trouble. Rome wasn't built in a day. What do you guys have for breakfast and how do you combat hunger later after 7:00 PM?
A few years ago I was 335 pounds, now I weigh about 220-225. I'm pretty happy at this weight but I'm always looking for tips to help my body. You guys have done good. For those who need help, if I can do it, anyone can. I know it sounds cliche but it's the truth. You've gotta believe.
Well what I learned to do is substitute a bad habit for a good one, instead of booze, it is green iced tea, instead of say a microwave burrito or a huge plate of food if I'm hungry after 7pm I eat some some microwave popcorn or some yogurt. If I'm really hungry I'll have one or two of those small microwave dinners, but something like chicken and rice instead of something heavier, or some eggs with herbs and bacon..bacon btw has a ton of flavor but is relatively non waist line threatening as most of the fat is cooked off so two strips of bacon and two eggs comes in at about 300 calories or so..which equals one tall glass of a regular soda. Regular soda, mayonaise, cheese are all foods you should avoid in the evenings as a small amount equals calories way out of proportion to their size.
Wow man! I know I'm late to the party here, but Congrats! Its a tough feat, I was 268 or so last year at this time, now I'm 218, trying to work my way down around 200 or so. Lots of work, but its amazing how much better I feel daily, and I'm sure you've noticed that as well! congrats
so i started 2 mondays ago..i have walked/jogged(mainly walked) 2 miles everyday since(minus Sat/Sun) and only ate bad once so far. I had 5 guys "little" cheeseburger with a soda but shared the fries on Friday. Pretty much eating eggs/bacon or oatmeal for breakfast..salad and/or lean cuisine/healthy microwavable lunches with fruit for lunch and dinner would make a turkey breast sandwich on wheat thin bread with slice of cheese, mustard, lettuce or spinach. This week im mainly splitting that 2 miles equally with walks and jogging until i get this stamina built up and hopefully in a couple weeks i'll be jogging the whole 2 miles Never weighed myself so dont know how much ill be losing
That sounds like a winner, let me suggest though that walking at a brisk pace is as productive as jogging and it is far easier on your knees, if you have any hills in your area walk up and down them if you feel the need for more intensity. I've been down that jogging route and my knees are not better off for doing so.
To tough for me Bro, that really works out every part of your body legs, lower back, the poles work your abs and upper body.
We with a few buddies last week after a big storm, man I was soaked right through my ski clothes from sweat!
no hills by my house only here at work. thought about doing some walking here during lunch but just hate coming back all sweaty havent felt any pain in my knees yet just the shin area when i first started. Probably had to do with the shoes i was wearing plus lack of exercise.
We have so much snow that saturday a few of my buddies and I are going to strap our skis and boats to a hiking back on our backs, and snowshoe up a mountain and glade ski down, should be awesome!
Great Tips! Thanks! I also just recieved a Company wide Email about a weight loss challenge. I'm thinking about doing this for 1 reason. i do NOT like doing things in the public eye. I'd rather just keep it to myself that I'm on a diet and go about my buisness.......but outting myself and joining this competition in front of everyone might be the deciding factor in staying with it . I am a very competive person and failing in front of the entire staff should be a serious driving factor.
So I am also trying to drop some weight here - Im 6'1 and sitting at 260 - and I have access to a gym at work. I have several options including a treadmill, recumbant bike, spinner bike, elliptical machine or stair machine. Anyone have any recommendations on what might burn the most calories during a 30 minute workout?
Start doing the elliptical for 10-15 minutes. If you do this at a good pace and resistance, you should be sweating pretty good when you're done. Then do a mile on the treadmill. I dropped from 6'3" 300lbs, to 6'3" 212 lbs in a years time. I've been lifting weights and controlling my diet to add muscle mass recently, so the weight is not dropping anymore. But to lose weight follow these simple rules. If you are serious you will do it. 1. Drink only water. NEVER anything else. Especially no alcohol. This is essential to your metabolism, as well as your caloric intake. 2. Fruit, fat free yogurt, granola cereal for breakfast (all mixed together) i prefer strawberries and kashi crunch cluster cereal with my yogurt 3. No food within 3 hours of going to sleep. Storing left over calories is a waste. 4. Exercise 15-30 mins 3-5 times a week. Don't kill yourself. Learn to enjoy it with music. After doing this for a long time, I love it. I now exercise hours per day and feel great. Im training in the pool, the gym, and on the bball court.
Update: I am now weighing 205....still slowly losing weight but i am lifting weights again, so i am gaining muslce mass again. I love it. I run 4 miles a day on the tredmil set on incline/decline itnervals.....its a ton of fun, i watch espn and listen to music and its over in no time. Then i do abs and free weights. I eat well (its cut my grocery bill 3/4) and i cheat once a week (but dont over do it) If i stopped drinking beer every weekend, id be down to 190 lol. Which btw my goal is 193 (so i can say i lost 100 pounds) then i wanna be 205 with muscle gain
